The Ox Barn is a 56-seater destination restaurant under the direction of Head Chef, Charlie Hibbert. Rooted in a passion for the local land, food and entertaining, the carefully curated menus are farm-based and plant-inspired. His team and the gardeners at Thyme work together to select and grow the fruits, vegetables and herbs used to create his Modern British Countryside fare.

The nineteenth century former oxen house is the newest addition to the family of meticulously restored farm buildings. A state-of-the-art piece of agricultural architecture at its conception, Caryn Hibbert worked meticulously to preserve the soaring archways and original Cotswold stone rubble walls, to now house a modern, dining destination - including a contemporary bar and seven and a half metre Charvet open kitchen - to allow for an authentic, heritage-rich dining experience, enabled by today’s best culinary technologies.

Over the past years, we have been to The Barn many times at different times of the year. We were truly disappointed by the quality of the food and service this time. Whilst the head chef is apparently still the same, the food was less imaginative and the main dishes luke warm and the ice cream melted by the time the dishes eventually reached our table. Unacceptable waits between each course. An entirely new service team that is poorly trained and no apologies from front-of-house for the long delays - because nobody was even aware of it. Finally, a bill exceeding £300 for 3 diners, without any wine ordered, rounded off the disappointment. On the positive side: the setting and ambience are unique and truly amazing, and the new Head of Service at least acknowledged our disgruntlement. But not coming back any time soon, there are many great dining choices in the vicinity.

Thyme itself is an amazing - very high end ‘provance feel - however it was really let down by poor service ( not the staff on duty ) but the lack of staff thereby asking the impossible of the staff serving ( the food was clearly cooked by very competent chefs- with great care but lack of staff resulted in the freshly prepared dishes being left under the hot lights on the “Pass” drying out the food or allowing g a rare steak to arrive medium plus So what a shame all that hard work and investment being downgraded by understaffing - so Ian sure can be easily resolved

Great time! Beautiful evening. Service was enthusiastic however the food came out slowly and team was confused on our meal choice! Still a great time!!

As ever a lovely experience but I would say that the portion of pea risotto would have been small even as a starter and the iced teas at £11 are a little steep, particularly as it was half ice. The polpette went down very well.
