Still one of the finest restaurants in DC. Chef Moscatello is one of the great chefs in town and this is a wonderful dining experience. Whenever I go with exacting foodie friends they always come away impressed.
Made a reservation thru open table. Had the reservation confirmed the day of the dinner. Arrived for dinner and the restaurant is closed! Have called and left messages or someone to call me and explain what happened, no response. I’ll be telling everyone not to go to this restaurant. Had to completely change plans for our party.
I have never been more please! Everything was outstanding. I highly recommend!
We used to dine at the Oval Room fairly often for date night and special occasions. It’s been 6-7 years since we last went. So we were interested how things have changed.
To our great pleasure it’s still very not as terrific as we remember. The food was outstanding and reasonably priced for a fine dining establishment. It was tasty, creative, and portions that were satisfying.
Our service was even better. While it wasn’t very busy due to COVID it meant we received extra attention from the staff and a nice visit from the chef.
We definitely won’t wait so long to go back.
We had a wonderful experience with amazing food and wine. Our service was impeccable. It was the best restaurant we ate at in DC!
A stunning terrace awaits you and creative cuisine
By long time chef Bryan Moscatello
A memorable evening under the stars
Wanting to go back soon. This refreshed classic
Is deserving of some many accolades.
The Oval Room is our go-to restaurant for serious events, such as birthdays and anniversaries. The cuisine is always to our liking and the outdoor dining, quiet and charming, is very special.
Everything was exceptional. Service was outstanding and the food was delicious and perfect.
The service and food was superb.
The chef Brian came out to meet us and we were able to express our appreciation for his menu and creativity. We ate outside on a lovely evening celebrating our 55th wedding anniversary. The price was reasonable.
It was fabulous!
Washington classic great food and service. A touch or normalcy in a crazy time
We had a lovely restaurant week menu and service was amazing as well!
We ate outside on a nice evening. Service as OK, but a little slow. Our soup was OK, but not great. Our entrees ( Tortellini and Skate Wing) were excellent, and so was our Raspberry Tart desert. We had house bottled Rickeys for our cocktails, which were so-so, a lttle tart. But it was a good experience over-all
I've always enjoyed going to The Oval Room. Service is excellent, food is consistently and reliably amazing, with the kind of beautiful presentation that makes you feel pampered. It's been closed for several months during the peak of COVID but has just reopened in time for summer Restaurant Week with an extensive lunch and dinner menu. For those who might still be hesitant about in-restaurant dining, the spacious front patio here with well distanced tables sufficiently removed from cars and sidewalk foot traffic should put your mind at ease. In fact very few restaurants participating in this RW offer outdoor dining, let alone a nice one like this - not to be missed!
You are guaranteed to have a fabulous dining experience at The Oval Room. From the first greeting, you know you are in for a special treat. Not only is the team professional and knowledgeable, but well prepared to provide excellent service during COVID-19. The outdoor patio dining has been expanded and allows for ample social distancing and comfort. The menu offerings during DC Restaurant Weeks are varied, thoughtful and plentiful. We were a party of five and through all courses there was nothing but rave reviews. As we sipped our cocktails, we enjoyed hot out of the oven freshly baked rolls that melted in your mouth. The first course included a beet and Roquefort salad, which was divine and a piece of art. The heirloom tomato salad was more delicious than any homegrown tomato any of us have eaten. The crab cube was exceptional. Each entree seemed to standout, but the cauliflower was the real surprise -beautiful and delicious. Not to be disappointed, the desserts were equally as wonderful. We concluded our evening having felt pampered and indulged with the finest culinary treats. We highly recommend The Oval Room for a special occasion, every day dining, a romantic evening or a business meal.
So excited they reopened! We sat outside and it was fantastic! Our amazing servers moved umbrellas around to make sure we had adequate shade and kept our drinks full, which is a must for me. The golden tomato salad and the lamb meatballs were the table favorites! Highly recommend for business meals!
Fabulous menu for Restaurant Week. The Oval Room has always been one of our favorite restaurants and it never disappoints.
Great Food! Had a wonderful time with my friends!
Thank Heavens they are back! Extraordinary, impeccable, gracious and delicious!
Follow Adrian’s lead and recommendations. The “corn” soup was unbelievable. The duck entree was medium rare as recommended and literally melts in your mouth. Outstanding chef!
Special shoutout to the host. He checked up on me several times, extremely gracious and professional. I see why the staff follows his lead.
So happy they have reopened. They deserve all your praise and patronage.
Excellent customer service and great food!!!
Very nice evening except for a rather vocal adjacent table.
Outstanding in every way!!
Wonderful service and food, lovely presentation.
Excellent restaurant experience all the way around. Some of the best, perfectly prepared food that I’ve had at a restaurant in a while.
Decent overall experience, nothing to write home about.
So many good things about this place: Superior service. Adnan is wonderful but so is every person on the staff. I love that you can have a private conversation at Oval -- tables are not "zero-lot-line" as often happens. Menu is small but beautiful -- always fresh, always unique options, wonderful array of healthy choices.
I try to dine at the Oval Room each time I visit DC (I lived there 46 years and now in Florida). This recent visit was excellent, as usual. The waiter was good-humored, knowledgeable, and efficient. The Maitre 'd helpful with the extensive wine list. A pet peeve of mine: it is nice to find a wine list with reasonably-priced quality wines as well as more expensive ones.
Very good and quiet
Lovely restaurant. The food was incredible. Deceived on a tasting menu paired with wine. It was wonderful. The service was very good - a few times the food cane out after the wine and vice versa. But all and all a wonderful evening dining before the ballet.
The entrees were cold. Lobster was undercooked (which is hard to do!) and tough.
Best restaurant on planet Earth.
Excellent food and service, provided in a classy and quiet environment. A dining room where conversation and dinner can mix! Nice.
The prix fixe lunch menu at $35 was very good value and the food was delicious with a good choice. Service was attentive without being overbearing and it was great to go to a restaurant where you could have a conversation without raising your voice. Tables were nicely spaced too.
Excellent service and fantastic food. A jewel in DC
I went to The Oval Room for lunch alone. I had two beautiful, delicious dishes: salmon and octopus. Both were wonderful. Very nice, professional service too.
Excellent food, service, and ambiance, but small portions for the price.
Engaging staff, wonderful food
Overall, our experience and quality of food was fair for the price. The presentation was superb, very colorful and vibrant. However it didn't meet the visual expectation for the price. The Restaurant Week pricing was better suited for the quality.
The service was good but quick and awkward as we were sitting in a very quiet section of the restaurant, and we could literally hear everyone's conversations, even the servers. It felt like we were in an addition to the main dining area. Had we been sitting in what looked like the main dining area, the ambiance would have been better.
The wine selection was extensive and the Sommelier was very helpful. She helped us choose a very good wine but we later learned the price was marked up 6 times the retail price. The wine was good but not good enough to be over $100
In the Oval Room it is unfortunately possible to walk in and be assaulted, even in mid-January mid-week, by the noise of fifty conventioneers pressing toward the bar. Once one has followed the hostess and struggled through the throng, however, one enters a room of moderate distinction and near-calm by contemporary standards. Staff are exceptionally well-trained, as Washingtonians have learnt to expect in Mr. Bajaj's restaurants. Pacing was well-judged. Squash and lobster bisque and roast lamb were delicious, and the wine list full of interesting choices by the bottle, but rather pedestrian by the glass, a situation one may hope will be remedied by a new sommelière who came on board early January 2020. Expense-account prices are worth it for a special occasion.
Wonderful and unobtrusive service. The food was excellent. One of the few places one can dine and have a real conversation.
