The Outpost American Tavern
Fun, high-energy Federal Hill hangout with friendly service and good food at good prices. It’s been a while since we dropped by and I’m glad we returned. I did grab a dinner reservation and it came in handy on a busy Friday evening.
We really enjoyed the relaxed, civilized atmosphere, considering we were have a light dinner after the Ravens game in Sunday. In a neighborhood chock full of rowdy, loud bars, the Outpost is an oasis. It’s cozy, and the food was very good. I had the burger, which was immense, and high quality. My wife had the trout, and she thought it was excellent. Our server was also welcoming, and very good, as we had eight people, and she didn’t miss a beat.
Great food and atmosphere
Best burger in SOBO. Rockfish entree was suberb...something I would expect from a high end restaurant in NYC
Great neighborhood tavern. We loved the food and will be back again and again.
I had been hearing such great things about this restaurant. Maybe I was expecting too much ! Service was slow and very uneven. One person got soup before any of us got drinks. Then the drinks came like two at a time. Tiny martini for $14.00! There’re only $12.00 at the upscale restaurants. Nobody ordered a second. Some items were good others fair. Nothing great.
Spinach dip was delicious! So creamy! We loved the campy decor and the menu was wide-reaching and everything we had was delicious. Nice server and cozy tables. The extra dirty martini was to die for!
This is a great neighborhood find. Food is excellent with good service. Everyone in our group loved their selection.
I want to say first off that the food is always excellent at The Outpost. But time and time agin the service is just awful. In past visits I've gone in on a weeknight to be asked of I have a reservation and when I've said no, there was always a look and then a hemming and hawing about where to seat us. So I've been making reservations. On this particular night, I went in and told the person who greeted me that I had a reservation and she said, mockingly, "yep, the only reservation." So, whatever. Once seated we received water and then proceeded to wait 20 minutes for anyone to come say hello or acknowledge us. Luckily, my dinner companion is good company. After finally coming to greet us, the man serving us took our drink order and then returned about 10 minutes later. We ordered our food and then waited another 30 minutes for it to arrive. Again, thank goodness for my dinner companion. In that 30 minutes, I drained my drink and no one came to offer another. When our food arrived, another server dropped it at our table without looking at us and then took off. Our server never returned until we were almost finished and asked if everything was ok. Well, no. The food was great. Really great. But I had no refill on my drink and we had a minor request for extra ranch we did without. I mean, didn't this man want to make more money by selling me more expensive drinks? I would have happily paid more for our dinner and drinks total but we were not attended to. In the end, a third person dropped our check and ran my credit card. Never saw our server again. This was the worst of the bad service received at The Outpost. In all my visits there I have never felt like anyone cared if I came in or not. Probably not going back. Too bad. The food is really good.
Food and service were very good. Waiter was attentive. Brunch Portions were very large.
The food here is amazing. Come for brunch and you won’t be disappointed... I got the French toast and my two friends got the chicken/waffles and the breakfast tacos. I can’t decide which thing was my favorite.
Just go there. You won’t be disappointed.
Warm welcoming, followed by great service.
Great food. Good beer choices. Cute restaurant. Very neighborhood type place. Parking is tight
Our waitress Julie was a lot of fun! We were there with old friends, and were at a great table for conversation and laughter.
This was our first time at The Outpost. It will not be our last. They’re restaurant week menu was OUTSTANDING. Our server was fantastic. The drinks were perfect. I can’t wait to go back!!
Warm friendly atmosphere and service. Great food!
Best brunch spot I’ve been in awhile - not to miss!
Great food and great service!
Fantastic local restaurant. Possibly the best burger I have ever had.
Loved loved loved this place. The brunch food was delicious! Excellent variety of options and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food. My only note is that I wish they had the ability to split for separate checks. We had a large party and couldn’t do that. Otherwise from the food, to the ambiance, to the service...everything was top notch!
Delicious and savory food! Excellent service.
EJ is the best. He has the best suggestions
Great food and service. I would comeback if i was in the area
Had a fantastic time! The food is excellent and it is a fun casual environment. Will definitely be back!
Food was great but it took forever to get our food. It was 40 min before getting our appetizer.
Such a great combination of flavors in each plate we ordered! Definite place to visit in Fed Hill!
While staying in Federal Hill, we decided to wander off the beaten track a bit and found The Outpost Tavern. Clearly, it was a great detour. It is a local restaurant where the diners all knew each other, children were encouraged to eat there with kid-friendly games to play, the staff was friendly and efficient, and the food was perfectly delicious. So, if you want to escape from the pace of 'lower fed hill' climb the street to the tavern.
Always great food. I’ve never been disappointed
Excellent experience! 1st time here and will be back! Had the deviled eggs with fried oysters appetizer. Was a great start! Ended with the ribeye, and it didn't disappoint! We were also celebrating a birthday and they surprised us with boozy ice cream with a candle and a card with notes from everyone working that night! As we left everyone was wishing me a happy birthday! Definitely a great experience! Will be back soon!
Great neighborhood place. Innovative food, great brunch on weekends.
Love this place!
I had a party of 9 at noon on a Sunday. They accommodated us, took our drinks orders at once, provided extra information on the brunch meals: how they are prepared, ingredients, portion sizes. The brunch menu is large and has a lot of variety for a table of our size. The food came out in a prompt manner, they checked on us frequently, and was gracious enough to take a group photo of us. Awesome music as well, if they sold their playlist, I could buy it in a heartbeat. In all, one of the best brunch meals I have ever had; I was very impressed and full. I highly recommend it and plan to return soon.
One of the best branches around. Inventive food cooked really well. Large portions for brunch. Everything is delicious. Bottom last cuppa coffee. Terrific neighborhood place. Wonderful service
Visited on a Saturday. You must try the nachos! They were fantastic! Plus the way they are served gets toppings on most of the nachos, not just the ones on top. First time I have seen it done like that. The Turkey club sandwich is an absolute must. It has a tomato jam that adds sweetness to the saltier buttered brioche toast and thick bacon. The housemade pickles are excellent. The MaiTai was all booze but not mixed well, so stick to beers/wine as cocktails may not be a strong point. Also, the strawberry jam to go is delicious but extremely overpriced and not worth the $6 for the small container (about 3 tablespoons). Was pleasantly surprised overall. Will return to try more of the menu.
Great neighborhood place. Food is always great and service is always excellent. If you haven’t been - put it on your “restaurants to visit” list.
Food was once again delicious! I had the grown up grilled cheese enjoyed every bite. The ketchup was a show stopper as well - I generally don't put ketchup on my fries - but it was too good not to!
Took points away for parking issue! Didnt want ticket on Mothers Day, no parking without permit after 2pm. Not familiar with area or where to park.
1/2 off bottles of wine on Wednesday!!
The evening started out with a very watered down martini, which was very discouraging. Food was uneven.
Food was great. Love the environment for a fun brunch spot. However, had two female servers, both REEKED of cigarette smoke. Clothes and BREATH. The older one was rude and loud.
