Fried Chicken Taco
This was our first of what we hope to be many more dining experiences at The Original El Taco on N. Highland Ave. The food was great, and the service awesome. It’s a great family neighborhood restaurant with ample free parking.
Service was very slow. But food and drinks were tasty!
This is typically our favorite restaurant in Atlanta. We decided to take some friends to celebrate a new job, but when we got there, were told that they could not be served alcohol because their IDs were vertical. They have both been of age for several years, and were not allowed to show a second form of ID. We were told this is a new rule across the entire restaurant group. However, it is not posted anywhere at the restaurant or on the website so there is no way to know this rule was to be enforced. Our waitress was gracious and accommodating as we were quite frustrated and disappointed. I have never witnessed an instance where two real IDs with additional forms of identification were denied service. As this was a celebration, it absolutely impacted our night. While I understand every business has the right to deny service in any form, rules such as this should absolutely be posted loud and clear.
Wanted to eat outside. Reservation accepted online but when we came we could not be seated outside. Service rather slow. Serving of guacamole tiny. Way way too loud. Not energetic just way too loud. Could hardly talk and hear person next to you. Food ok but not super. Had out of town guests and was very disappointed. Not an evening to talk and catch up. Wanted better
The service here was unbelievable. Will definitely be returning!
I selected this place based on an article listing the best margarita in Atlanta. Not only was the food good but the margaritas were the showstoppers. Thank you for the ambiance and great service.
great food and greattttt service. Chef was wonderful. One in our party has a soy allergy and she hand wrote out what could be ordered.
Great food and service. A neighborhood treasure!!!
Should have gone with the tacos. I have always ordered the tacos and they are good. This time I decided to try the enchiladas. Big mistake. Beef and cheese enchiladas were fairly flavorless and really bland. Don’t order them. Stay with the tacos.
Great service and excellent tacos! Will definitely go back.
Food was good and filling and Covid-19 cleanliness and protocols made me feel safe.
It was a great time with my family. Everyone seemed to love the trio and the steak fajitas.
Great as usual. Good food and drinks at a reasonable price
We love this place. The drinks are always good, the tacos are good and filling. I was a little disappointed this trip because the food wasn’t as good as it usually is and the service wasn’t so great. Our waitress was very nice but she disappeared a lot and when we asked for things they took some time getting to the table. But overall I still love this restaurant.
We had a great time. Great experience. The only issue we ran into outside of everything being really good were the proteins added to dishes from chicken to steak. Not very flavorful for the dishes that it was added to like a bowl and a signature dish.
All the smoked and fried meats were good but grilled meats lacked flavor and spice.
Definitely a minor gripe but the rest of the dishes and food were ace.
Our server and manager were awesome and we appreciate how hospitable they were. Great restaurant and great atmosphere. Cheers.
Great hospitality!! Wonderful atmosphere and the food is SO good!
The shrimp tacos were amazing! But the eggplant and the pork tacos I didn’t care for. The chips are way too salty!
Margaritas were excellent
Watery margaritas, rude waiter, shrimp tasted metallic and rubbery. Not a good experience.
Food was dry and very over-priced. If we had not had a gift card, we would have left.
Only real complaint, when I am sat at the crappiest table, ask to move to an adjacent one that is open, only to be told “no, I just sat another table for that server”, feels a bit like I, as the customer, am being fit in around the company’s preferences, versus mine?
Eventually, we were moved, but it took us asking a total of three times and two different people.
We pulled out two hairs in our nachos. Overall quality of the food was okay. 20% service charge was included on the bill but not disclosed to us by the waitress. I remember this restaurant being much better. Maybe they are still recovering from COVID. For now, I’d go to DBA next door instead of this place.
Note that the gratuity is already added. Our server mentioned they do this so they can pay their servers a fair hourly wage. In Covid times it’s so nice to hear restaurants are taking good care of their employees. Speaking of covid, this spot has a nice screened in porch and the front of the restaurant opens to allow maximum air flow. I felt very safe the whole time!
My daughter and I had lunch on a Saturday. The restaurant was clean and sanitized. Zack, our server, was polite, efficient and professional. I had the chicken fajita and a Texas margarita. My daughter had the Original bowl which consisted of green rice, black beans, sweet potato, avocado, fried onions, salsa verde, spicy pickles, and crema. She also had the Rosarita margarita. We had chips and queso blanco with jalapenos for the table. Everything was delicious and tasty. It was nice getting out during this Covid-19 epidemic. My daughter and I always look forward to dining at The Original El Taco. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who happens to be in the area!
It was great and our server was amazing
Always our favorite meal out!
Everything we tried was delicious, especially the Queso Royale.
Liked the prizes on the hour
The food and ambience was good. Food was average prices but there could have been more food on the entree
Food was poorly seasoned. We had beef fajitas and tacos (shrimp, carnitas, and smoked chicken).
Love the roasted vegetable enchiladas and the frozen mojitos!
Nice, cute in the inside! Can’t wait to go back and try something new :)!
Great experience, came for day before valentines, wasn't too packed, they administered good distancing practices, food was good, warm, tasty and great service. Will be back
Caleb always takes great care of us!
This was our first visit to El Taco since the pandemic began. It used to be one of our neighborhood favorites to enjoy with our kids. We were disappointed with the quality of the food. My enchilada was cold and the chicken was dry. The chips were salted and seasoned so heavily you couldn’t eat them and my husbands fajitas arrived nearly 5 min after the rest of us had received our food. We loved this restaurant and are sad to have had an experience like this. I hope they can turn it around to survive this pandemic.
Good choices for vegie conscious.
We came here for my girlfriend's birthday. We have been here since the covid outbreak and so we knew that this restaurant takes cleaning, sanitizing, and socially distancing seriously. There is space between patrons. Staff is masked. Service is great, especially at the bar. The food is fantastic, and they have options that work with seemingly every diet or allergies. On a Tuesday night we were one of only a few patrons which made it a very enjoyable experience. This restaurant has moved away from tipping and instead applies a 20% service charge in lieu of gratuity on each check. I hope more restaurants go with that approach because it is just so easy and ensures that the staff is taken care of, but if you feel like leaving more, that is totally up to you.
The food is always good and they have great service.
Great Covid protocols, really friendly staff, great food and music!
The service here was by far the best service I have ever had at a restaurant!!!
