   Overall, we were slightly disappointed after reading so many positive reviews. 6/10 if I’m being kind Service: Our google maps was playing up on our phones, and we ended up being 8 mins late for our reservation. However, we ended up waiting an additional 5-6 mins in the entrance as there was a few groups who had turned up, and the lady managing bookings then said “you’re 15 mins late” and said we could have the table with reduced time. Aside from that initial encounter, the service for the rest of the evening was great and the staff were friendly Ambience: The tables felt packed together, and we found ourselves wanting to almost whisper to each other for a bit of privacy. There also isn’t a lot of background noise whilst you’re eating Food: We really wanted to food to blow us away, but sadly it didn’t compare to the local vegan Chinese takeaway in my hometown. Orchid has a great selection of vegan dishes, but none of them were particularly delicious. The table was also quite small so it was difficult manoeuvring around all the plates

   Such a wonderful revelation in York. Busy Chinese restaurant has fantastic menu with many varied dishes. Gyozas, crispy seaweed and pumpkin croquettes were all delicious and sesame mushroom toast was the star. Mains were delicious too, all different. Black bean sauce was top quality, and loved the mushroom with teriyaki. The nameko mushroom sauce on ‘chicken’ filets was amazing - so glossy and luxurious. Staff were super talented and attentive.

   Finding a 100% vegan Chinese in the middle of York was shocking enough but it was actually very good. The service was prompt and to the point, the restaurant itself was beautiful, the menu was exciting; lots of different types of dishes, lots of classics and newer things. The food was good.

   A very disappointing experience overall. I’d expect a vegan restaurant to have a wide range of plant proteins and vegetables rather than just loads of ‘fake’ meat dishes. Main was fine, mushroom teriyaki small and overpriced. Starters (korroke and gyoza) bland and uninspiring

   If you are vegan who misses eating typical Chinese dishes go for it - a guilty pleasure. Pretend meat chilli beef, crispy duck, prawn, chicken etc and a lot of deep fried starters. However if you are looking for fresh inventive dishes this is not for you.

   Marvellous food. We especially enjoyed the Thom Kha soup and the vegan prawns.

    Very nice food. Staff were great. Definitely recommend this restaurant … even if like me; you’re not vegan.
