I went with two of my friends. The waiter misunderstood my order and didn’t bring everything so I had to wait until my friends were finished with their food to get mine. I ordered the grilled mushroom and he told me it came with roasted baby potatoes but he only brought 3 plain grilled mushrooms. The food was bad altogether. Salad was incredibly oily, the pizza was tasteless - I had to put ketchup and salt on it in order for it to be edible. The staff wasn’t very professional either, and we couldn’t pay the check separately. Will not eat there again.
Thank you for your review. I am sorry you did not enjoy your recent experience, unfortunately due to the stop/start nature of the restrictions in Dec we felt it would be unfair to bring back our full staff for such short bursts & instead decided we would cope with the increased numbers of customers using the existing team. I am sorry if our service was not up to our usual standard. If you contact me I would be delighted to be afforded the opportunity to remedy this. Yvonne PH 018746949
Very pleasantly surprised with everything, great service and atmosphere, the food was excellent! Highly recommended for a quiet dinner date.
Lovely staff but should have had more servers. The girl who served us was a delight but the restaurant was very busy and there were only two servers on. Food is good and also good value.
Dear TSee Thank you for your review, we are running with less staff at the moment due to the current Pandemic situation. We are experiencing some demand at peak times but not enough steady demand to take back more of our staff. We are limiting numbers and our team is working as hard as we can & we hope that our customers understand. We hope to return to normal service soon. Thank you for visiting us & we hope to see you again. Thanks again Yvonne O'Keeffe General Manager
Excellent afternoon tea. Staff were lovely and very helpful.
Was very impressed, a great menu lots of choice and very good value, friendly staff and excellent service.
The pre theatre menu was good value, food was lovely and service was good.
Some confusion when we got there as the restaurant closes at 8pm and we had a confirmed booking for 8.30. In the evening all guests are in the Castle Vaults bar downstairs. Lively evening with an Irish ballad singer. Food was of good pub grub standard with hearty portions. Not quite what we expected when we booked but a good evening!
I booked an early sitting for dinner as we were going to the theatre, it was also my daughters’ birthday. The food was good, no complaints there but the service was abysmal, so slow we had to forgo our dessert so we could get to the theatre. Also the table was not set properly, no side plates, I asked for them and they gave us saucers. Some of the cutlery on the table was dirty and I had to ask for some when my main course arrived, had to ask for water. Also the waiter very kindly said the gin & tonic my daughter ordered would be free as it was her birthday but when I got home I checked the bill I’d been charged! We will not return!
Very accommodating when we mentioned allergies, very friendly staff.
we had a lovely meal there before going to the theatre so it was a little quiet.
food was lovely and service was excellent.
Nice quirky evening in the cellars of The Old Music Shop. Food was good value and staff attentive but not intrusive.
I can highly recommend The Old Music Shop. Myself and a friend enjoyed the pretheatre dinner menu which was delicious and generous in portion size. Wish we had had more time! Service was friendly and efficient and we received a warm welcome. Lovely dining area. Looking forward to the next time.
Booked at really short notice with little previous research and was pleasantly surprised. Good service, nice ingredients. Nice meal. Really handy location for us
Loved it and will be back soon..service great lovely ambiance
I booked this restaurant for a special occasion with friends. I was very surprised that it's more like a drop in cafe/restaurant. We waited to be seated and had to ask someone to look after us. The restaurant was empty bar 1 or 2 other tables. After 10 mins we had to ask for menus. We got 3 menus for 7 people. After taking the food order, we had to wait and no one came back to give drinks menus or take order for drinks. It's not a full bar. Minerals are served in plastic bottles with no glass!
The food was ok, chicken wings are served whole and not broken in half as you'd normally see in a restaurant. Value for money is good but given the service we won't be returning. It's unfortunate as I think this place has a lot of potential. We were seated upstairs and the waiter told us afterwards that there is a restaurant downstairs but no one asked when we arrived which one we had booked! He said that upstairs is the main one so they would assume that we wanted there. Downstairs is mostly for hotel guests.
It's a really cute coffee shop. Our server was really nice. I didn't catch his name. Great value for the price. We were very full at the end.
The food was bland and overpriced.
Very sorry to hear that we disappointed you on this occasion. Best wishes.
The food was delicious and the staff very friendly!
Remarkable experience with great food and service
We were a group of 5 ladies meeting at 2pm. We were hoping to have lunch but only brunch was on the menu until 3pm which didnt really suit as we would have prefered lunch. However the lovely girl did suggest that we could see the 3pm menu, which we did, but as we were under time restraints we went for the brunch menu, which was very nice.
There was a great ambience with afternoin tea groups. The staff were really warm and welcoming. Food lovely.
Patricia, thank you so much for leaving your review. We hope you enjoyed the show! I will pass the feedback to our Restaurant Manager about the menus and the availability. We are hoping to offer more for our theatre goers - especially now that there will be two matinees (Wed/Saturday) going forward. We adjusted our All Day menu recently and hope to make additional changes to our brunch and pre-theatre to accommodate more guests. We hope you'll visit again. Many thanks,
Het is een hotel waarbij het restaurant een service is. Geen bijzondere keuken . Verder erg sobere ambiance.
Personeel vriendelijk.
Dank Je! (Thank you for leaving a review). Our Old Music Shop Restaurant is indeed part of the Castle Hotel, Dublin. As the restaurant is part of an extensive and old Georgian building our kitchen is located on the lower ground floor and we are proud that our chefs prepare food freshly daily. We do not use off-site kitchens. We can only apologise for the ambience on that day you visited but are delighted you found the staff friendly. We appreciate all feedback. Thank you once again. Fijne dag!
Lovely relaxed atmosphere - my second time here so would definitely recommend it. Very friendly staff but service a little slow. We were going to The Gate theatre so had to actually leave our coffee without drinking it as ran out of time. Perfect location for pre theatre and will definitely be back.
Teresa, Thank you so much for leaving a review and it's great to hear you would definitely recommend us. We let you down on your recent visit the restaurant before the Gate Theatre. We have been working on training the team to identify customers that are having pre-theatre or timely brunches that are heading to the nearby shows at the Gate, Abbey and O'Reilly Theatres so that we can deliver a prompt service. We hope we've remedied this and that we can look forward to welcoming you again soon.
I loved the afternoon tea - everything was fresh and delicious. There was a perfect balance between sandwiches and cakes, a classic afternoon tea. The service was excellent with very friendly staff. It's an old fashioned place so it felt very authentic - such a lovely homely atmosphere made it a break from hectic Dublin life. This is a little haven right in the city centre.
Nice atmosphere, close to the Gate Theatre, nice food.
Lovely restaurant with friendly and competent staff. Yummy food and good portion sizes. I highly recommend this place - a great experience, all around!
We were very happy with our evening. It was lovely and relaxed, friendly staff, a good location with excellent food.

This place is a hidden gem in a quiet part of the city centre. The standard of ingredients and the quality of preparation was very surprisingly good. The service was warm, very attentive and at the same time, unobtrusive. I will certainly put this place on my map of places to go for dinner dates with friends.
The staff were excellent. My friends were finding parking on sunday and the waitress was very kind, offering me a drink, menu and water whilst i waited. She checked too that i was ok.
Service with a smile. Excellent food. Top class
Nice cosy ambience, right in the city centre and super close to the Hugh Lane Gallery (1min walk) and O'Connel Street is in a walking distance.
The staff is kind and available, the food is good, just a bit pricey. Portions are decent as well.
We went there for a Sunday brunch, upon reservation and we found a table waiting for us :)
We ordered two poached eggs on sourdough bread, sided with mixed salad, creamy potatoes and avocado - while daughter ordered pancakes with nutella, they came with a small pot of fruit salad and maple syrup, and just then they added 2 small pots of nutella. They tasted good but the plate prep wasn't great, for the price they could put the nutella in a small pot not in their original small packaging, decoration and how
food is presented (depending on the price) it's also important.
We also got two cappuccinos, which were tasty and big :-)
Overall a pleasant experience, and we will come back when in the area to give it another try - maybe lunch or dinner.
Thanks for having us!
Very nice food excellent value for money Staff very nice we have booked again for sat 15th september my birthday
Supposed to have a reservation for brunch menu as on the website but when we got there (some having travelled for an hour) we were told there is no brunch menu and reservation is no good.
Lovely setting, great food. Since it was daytime we ordered at counter. Not sure a reservation was actually needed, but finding the restaurant on Open Table drew us in. We’d definitely eat there again when in Dublin.
Our waitress was from Slovakia and she was brilliant - very friendly and very good at her job - gave great advice on the menu. The early bird is great value and the food was delicious. Very convenient location if you are going to the Gate Theatre (which we were). I would definitely go back!
Just a great place to dine staff were very attentive
Very disappointed. We booked a table online for lunch expecting a sit down service. However this was not the case. On arrival we were told that lunch does not commence until 3 o clock. It was the All Ireland semi final day and management are missing out on a huge opportunity to capitalise on events going on in the local area.
I don’t like being harsh, but the food was not value for money. 17/18 euro for cod and chips that left me with a knot in my stomach for a day.
Pizza option very limited, burger very expensive and cod and chips wasn’t great.
The venue while interesting was dated and definitely caters for an older market.
The staff were lovely but the place could do with a good shake up, especially when there are limited options else where.
Poor menu choice - nothing like on the website. Service very attentive but it was 5pm and we were the only ones there! Very close to a number of nearby hotels. I was disappointed overall though.
service was slow . but the food and drink was amazing .
Friendly atmosphere, owner working the floor and chatting away. Excellent food and value for money in a great setting & a building with history behind it - absolutely would recommend and will go again in the near future.
Excellent food, competitively priced, great staff .... beautiful setting ... great atmosphere
