The Old Inn On The Green
This was our first time here and we chose the Inn because of the reviews . We were not disappointed. The food was excellent! There was a wedding rehearsal dinner in the next room and the tables were full. Our server was a little on edge, but she mellowed as the evening went on.
Cocktails and appetizers were quickly served and the foie gras, diver scallops, beets and cheese were all amazing. It was a nice touch that the chef sent out a "tasting plate" of items before the apps.
Our meals arrived and all of us were impressed with the presentation of the plates of food. The duck, lamb, pasta and crispy salmon were all incredible! It seems rare that four diners can all agree that the entire meal was fabulous! Highly recommended!
Absolutely amazing experience. We were given a wonderful large table for two, and felt that we had traveled back in time! Our meal was delicious and relaxed and elegant. Our server had perfect timing. In short, it was a memorable time and we would highly recommend a visit to this Historic Old Inn!
Atmosphere is amazing, service was exemplary and food was top notch. The entire experience was nothing short of spectacular!
Excellent food and service.
We enjoyed our visit. The service, food, wine and ambiance combined to make our visit perfect! Thank you!
A more magical dining room cannot be imagined: entirely candle lit, old architectural details perfectly preserved, as quiet as if you're in a previous century. The staff are gentle and friendly, and the food is good. The wine list is exceptional, with very fine wines at high prices but also excellent bottles reasonably priced. I've been there about five times, including once overnight - also lovely, and there's nothing like it anywhere else: a unique experience worth the drive through gorgeous New England villages, woods and fields back through time.
One of my top ten meals EVER! So very very good Great ambience
The Old Inn has always been our go to choice for special occasions...birthday, anniversaries etc. This time I went with a friend because I didn’t feel like cooking but didn’t want to drive to far...as always the meal was scrumptious and the service impeccable but since it was a weeknight casual outing we stuck to the price fixe menu and the overall cost was very very reasonable! I will make an effort to go here more not just for special occasions or showing off the best of Berkshires to friends
The rack of lamb wAs delicious as well as the scallop-lobster appetizer. Everything was impeccable-expensive but worth it . The foie gras was outstanding as well as the duck entree.
The food and dining rooms are fantastic. I wish they would play soft music and make it a little brighter. If that light the fireplaces once it gets cold, it may be the coziest restaurant around. Would go back.
Fantastic. We had one welcome menu and two a la carte. All were excellent, perfectly prepared on Thursday night with a late 8:00 start. Atmospheric as promised. Very special evening. Of many epicurean meals in a week in the Berkshires, this was most memorable
Beautifully prepared local food expertly served in a lovely ambiance. Best of the Berkshires.
Loved it! Food excellent, service superb and the atmosphere perfect. Had the scollop appetizer, duck entre and creme brûlée with the most delicious red wine.
Perfect, as always😀
The food was extraordinary!
Loved everything about it.
Can’t wait to return
One of the best! Well worth the drive.
Wonderful place, but lacks ambiance without a little background music
If you are in the area, put it on the list.
A gracious solution to a special night out. The patio works especially well on a warm summer evening.
Opted for the tasting menu. Superb! Not inexpensive, but worth it.
One of the best meals we've had in the Berkshires. Drinks are generous. The service and many little extras include canes, a pre-meal taste and a chocolate to finish.
On a warm, summer evening—en route from Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival to the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival—I stopped at the lovely Old Inn on the Green. I ordered from the Saturday Prix Fixe menu, starting with the exceptional Warm Vermont Bijou Chèvre on Toasted Brioche, followed by the Grilled Beef Tenderloin, and the Lemon Creme Tartlet (a cloud from heaven) for dessert, all for an extremely reasonable $78. As they've preserved the Inn's many historic qualities, there's no electric lighting in the dining room—it's entirely candle-lit, adding to the cozy ambiance. My server Ian was knowledgable, efficient, and attentive, and ensured my dining experience was exceptional.
Dinner was exceptional!!! I love the Duck Brest .
As always, our dining experience was excellent. The ambiance is very special and the food was outstanding. We will be back soon.
Loved it! Rich was awesome!
Great ambience, top notch food, good and friendly service. The inn itself feels old worldly but sophisticated. Just tasted the food this time - but want to stay there in the future
All aspects of the experience were—as is always the case—wonderful.
You dine by candlelight in this old colonial inn. You can order a fixed menu, ala carte or the chefs menu with wine pairing. Throughout the dining experience the chef works to delight your taste buds and the staff is attentive. A wonderful romantic spot.
Fabulous dinner. We selected the menu with wine pairings, and it was outstanding.
This was easily the most romantic and exquisite dinner I have ever had. Our server, Rich, was the model of professionalism, and we will definitely return. Bravo to all who made that dinner possible.
One of the best! Food and service are always top notch.
Time travel and worth the trip. The food is equal in refinement to the mid 18th century atmosphere.
We were really looking forward to our dinner at TOIOTG but overall were disappointed by the service, crowded dining room, and experience. The food was exceptional for 3 of 4 of us. One of our party was a vegetarian and when she asked the server for vegetarian options, she was told that the pasta was the only choice. When questioned, she admitted that the risotto could be done without the lobster but she did not offer any other options. We are not particularly annoying diners or ask for unusual levels of service but our waitress provided the level of service we would have expected in one of the local diners. The wait between the order for dessert and its arrival was easily 30 - 40 minutes. The waitress did apologize once and say that the kitchen was backed up but one of the adjoining tables that arrived 30 minutes after us and was served their main course significantly after us received their desserts prior to us. We were pleased to see that the restaurant was busy on a Saturday evening but did not expect that the chairs from one table would back into our chairs or that the waitress would keep bumping into one of our parties chairs as she passed. Food was wonderful...the rest was a disappointment.
Fabulous food, fabulous service and ambiance. Every course was spectacular. One of many stars includes the Lobster & Scallop appetizer.
Still one of our favorite places not only in the Berkshires, but in the US. Stunning food!
This was a very special treat. The food was spectacular; the service , outstanding. The acoustics aren’t great if you happen to have a noisy group in your room, but all of that fades away when you relax into the ambiance and the service. Love it there!
The Old Inn on the Green is, in my opinion, the finest restaurant in the lower Berkshires, with a varied menu and a wonderfully authentic Colonial feel. Since the prices are more akin to Manhattan than Great Barrington, I save our trips for special occasions, but never come away disappointed. This time, our group had the duck and the steak, both outstanding. The service is superb, and we stayed for a lovely array of desserts as the last remaining diners that night. We will certainly return for our next special occasion.
Tasting menu was awesome — and not one where you go home hungry! Food came out perfectly timed. Most tender lamb ever. Sensational scallop. Special touches on everything. Super romantic ambience. Staff was above and beyond. It was snowing and James actually swept the path in front of me going out to my car. Really a wonderful time.
Three years ago our children gifted us an evening at the Inn on the Green for our 35th anniversary, with limo transportation and Crystal champagne included. It was such fun that we decided to repeat the experience each year. We have not been disappointed! In front of a low fire we dined on file bras, lobster risotto, lamb and duck, all of which was superb. Add in the amuse bouche, affogatto, and cheese plate and the entire experience, as ever, was charming and delicious!
