The Ogden Chicago Ratings and Reviews
Our server was nice, but she was so slow it took 1.5 hours to finally get our food. We ordered a beer...10 minutes. It took her 20 minutes to come back and see if we wanted to order anything. Another 20 minutes and we ordered food. 1/2 hour later, we told her it had not arrived, and she giggled and said, "I'll go yell at them." Quite frankly, I think she forgot to place the order.
I ordered a cheeseburger with truffle fries. My entire plate was soaked with truffle oil. It was inedible. Since we had ordered some chips a guacamole prior, I just chose not to eat it. She took if off our bill.
We had been here previously for the Sunday brunch and I would not recommend it either. Food choice was small and you had to keep waiting for them to refill.
It's a great place before a Hawks or Bulls game, and the ambiance is really cool, but based on two experiences, we will not be back.
I give this review with the following information: We were there on a Sunday following Cirque du Soleil at the United Center and there was not a whole lot of people there (it was about 4:30). The beer selection was fair, the buffalo chicken wrap I had was outstanding, but the service needs a little tweaking. It wasn't awful, but with no one else in the place, I expected to see the server a little more often than I did.
First time at the restaurant. Food was very good but it was extremely loud. Very hard to carry on a conversation.
Love the fact you can leave your car with the valet and walk two blocks the United Center. The valet was only $15.00.
Would go back again and the cheese burger was to die for.
Do need to carry Rieslings Wing though.
Fun, lively atmosphere w great drink and beer selection! Came here before AND after a show at United Center. It was close, convenient, and open late! Enjoyed the open, couch type seating around perimeter...cozy and relaxing! Food was typical "bar food" but decent! Would recommend and definitely come again!
we got there and the noise was so loud had to have the seater repeat a very complicated "we have a limited menu // and we don't have 1/2 of what is on the limited menu and that anything we ordered, (AKA appetizers) would take at least 1/2 an hour to serve" speal
We had to hunt down a server to take our "limited order" and luckily waited only 15 minutes for nachos and wings
food was ok nothing spectacular and the noise form the TV and blasting music was so loud we couldn't have a conversation
definately not up to par --- too bad -- its super close to the united center and could be a great place before the games!
Went before a concert held at the UC, as it is a very close walk. Lots of tables packed close. Extremely loud; difficult to have a conversation unless your lungs are powerful. Having some sound absorption in the walls/ceileings would help this place. Tons of TVs. Facilities were good. Food was good (the burgers were large, filling, and tasty). Also some drink specials were available. Overall, a good place to go before games/concerts if you can handle the noise.
Some parts were great, others not so much. We had reservations and our table was available right away. The server was nice, but had way too many tables to give the right amount of attention to them. Right away out of pinot grigio of any kind. Pretty popular wine type to be out of. Plates we were done with never got removed, missing multiple condiments after food was 'run' to us. Food runner did not bring condiments. Couldn't see server, walked back to kitchen and asked for condiments. They said they'd bring them, never did. Told server, she punched it in for food runner, never brought. Had to wait over 10 minutes for condiments, now food is cold. Walked to get extra ice that was requested and never brought. 4 hostesses standing there doing nothing, you'd think they could assist floor with plate, empty glass removal. Such a beautiful restaurant and atmosphere to not have enough staff to give top notch service. Don't really blame the server, there just needs to be more supportive staff, or server needs less tables at a time. She was always kind when we could get her attention. I guess I would recommend if you are just stopping for drinks and a snack, but not necessarily for an important meal.
I had never been here before, so I feel a bit bad leaving a negative review, which I very rarely do. But I was so disappointed.
My husbsnd and I made a reservation before the Queen concert at the United Center. We got bad traffic, called, and said we would be 10 mins late. The lady on the phone was SO nice and said it was no problem at all. She was so friendly. I also loved the valet service--drop car off and head to concert--that was great!
We headed in and ordered two drinks and two appetizers. It was busy, but people were leaving to head to the concert, which started in one hour. We ordered at 7PM. At 7:42, we still did not have our appetizers?? We told the waitress we needed them soon. She said they'd be right up--still nothing. FinAlly, at 7:50, one of our appetizers was brought out by a server. Our waitress came and said the second one would be up soon--after almost an hour (and these are chicken strips) we tell her to bring us the check so we can eat quickly and lay. She brings the check, we pay--still no food. After paying, we tell her we can't wait anymore and we will hVe to leave. She tells us she is sorry, but makes no offer to refund us for food we did not even receive after almost one fully hour. That should have been a no brainer in my opinion.
As I said, this is my only time there and I liked the ambience, but can't leave a great review when I paid, didn't get me order, and was not offered any make up for that. It was disappointing.
The Ogden is a perfect place for a pre-United Center event meal. Perfect location, great pub food options, signature cocktails, solid beer list. And you can valet park for the evening and walk over to the United Center. Service was wonderful - hostess, waitress, and parking attendant.
We made reservations here before a Blackhawks game. We opted to try the brunch buffet that included beverages! However, we couldn't try all the buffet had to offer because the trays were constantly empty. Even though I would wait for them to be replenished, there was a lag time, and I don't feel you should have to wait at the buffet to have it be refilled. My friends did not get to try everything the buffet had to offer. While conveniently located to the United Center, we will try a different place for a tasty brunch next time and skip out on the Ogden.
Burgers were good. Although, menu is rather sparse...not many choices. We ordered the Mac and Cheese balls...which were recommended by the wait staff...they were dry/just okay/little flavor. Speaking of wait staff, our waitress went on long trips or something before she would return to our table. Twice, we had to ask other waitresses to find her. Additionally, she looked to be just going through the motions. She had little interest in providing a smile, efficiency, other. On the whole, if it were not for the other staff who helped with delivery, service would have been 1 star. It is a very nice sports bar. But, I wouldn't go for a quiet date there...very loud. We were there for a pre-Bulls game dinner. Crowd varies from an age perspective. I wouldn't have thought it super-expensive. But, on the back-end, valet parking was $15 + Tip additional. (He parked across the street - we could see the car.) That's when the overall price of the experience migrated from $$$ to $$$+. I mean, it was only burgers and beers after all.
Took a buddy for dinner here (his first time) before the Hawks game, and if it wasn't busy enough just because it was prior to one of their home games, the NCAA tournament was also going on, so they had games on the monitors. Enjoyed the food and beer, and despite the high volume of people and activity, our server Laura was always checking on us to make sure we had everything we wanted.
