The Oak Table Ratings and Reviews
Very good meal and an attentive service staff. Group had a mix of ravioli and quail. Both meal choices were excellent. Couple of requests for extra bread were met quickly. Nice cocktails before meal. All in all and good place for a nice meal on any occasion.
Party of 12 - 2 reservations of 6 each for the same time. They sat the first 6 and would not seat the other due to "lack of enough menus" and "not wanting the kitchen staff to get backed up". However, only 2 other tables had customers and 2 customers sat at the bar. Otherwise, the place was empty. Food came out and steaks were tough and chewy. Hamburger was raw after ordering well done. Hamburger came out a second time and was still undercooked. Management handled well by comping bill. Server and bartender were excellent. However, would not revisit.
Server was too chatty about nothing each. Each course took an unreasonably amount of time to come out of the kitchen at 8:30pm on a Sun evening w/few guests in the restaurant.
Value proposition was missing.
Octopus tender, Strip Steak chewy and charred broccolini was cold.
This was a first date dinner. Service was perfect and the food couldn’t have been better and very well presented. There were three people standing directly behind me talking loudly which took away some of the ambiance of the place. Overall a good experience that I would return for.
Had reservations yet were made to wait 15-20 minutes, even though there were many open tables and many servers standing around. They sent several people to sit at the bar before seating, a ploy to get you to buy a drink, perhaps? Food was okay, but not great. 1/4 of my chicken dish was too tough to cut with the table knife. Our waiter was pleasant enough but I will not be going back.
Stopped in before a live theater event in downtown Columbia. Had a nice table and great server who was very attentive. Sat at the bar for a couple craft cocktails prior to dinner and was impressed with the bar staff and their skill set. Drink menu on craft cocktails does change seasonally. Dinner is set in a small plate, large plate and desert style menu. Waiter somewhat pushed us to do all three and it is really more food than one needs. Two could easily share a small plate as an appetizer where we ended up ordering one each. Needless to say we skipped desert.
I would disagree that this is a $$ establishment. While the individual plates are not terribly expensive by the time you have a drink, add wine to your meal and order both a shareable and a large plate you are easily dropping a healthy amount for dinner for two. Quality of food and presentation was great but it was not what I consider in the $$ category for other open table reservations.
I took my mom for her 80th birthday. We really got lucky, it was their 5th anniversary and each of us got a small plate, entree, and dessert for $35! Unbelievable! They served us a complimentary glass of champagne to celebrate the occasion. She later had one of the best margaritas she says she ever had. The wedge salad and mussels were delicious. She had the steak Med. Rare, while she had no complaints, I felt it was a little more done than that. I had the market fish which was perfectly cooked. For dessert, she had a sorbet trio (they served it with a candle! ) and I had the ice cream trio which was tastier. Especially the Brandy Alexander ice cream. This place never disappoints!
Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. The chef accommodated gluten free diner in our party. We lucked up and visited on the Oake Table's 5th anniversary and got starter, main and dessert for $35! A great deal. Highly recommend Oak Table for every day dining or special occasions. You won't be disappointed!
Oak Table is a small, well run bistro with a marvelous bar that gives you the best view in Columbia. The staff know what they are doing. It's a modern restaurant, focus on the food and drink. Not a large menu but very well crafted.
They are confident in what they're doing, and rightly so.
I has the pleasure of tasting both the Day Boat Scallops and the Foie Gras Funnel Cake, both of which were perfectly cooked, well-presented, and delicious. I also had an excellent duck dish with a blueberry (I think) demiglaze between creamed spinach and served on top of a certain squash puree, which was incredible. Unfortunately, it's already off the menu and I can't recall the name. For dessert I tasted both the Butterscotch Bread Pudding and the Corn Panna Cotta. The former was very good and is apparently a favorite, but I (and my girlfriend) thought the Panna Cotta was out of this world. Our server, Ryan (I believe), was on-point all night and had every menu mastered. The Oak Table is just a hair pricey, but the excellent food, presentation, service, and atmosphere is well worth the cost.
They sat us on a two top table then put another couple right next to us despite the fact that the restaurant was virtually empty. Food was above average but menu options were not very good. Not at all what I was expecting on an anniversary dinner. If I end up with a $150 bill, The experience should be worth it. Won't be back.
We were traveling to Columbia from Charleston for the weekend and wanted a good meal at a restaurant that we have not visited before. We found The Oak Table on Open Table and it had great reviews. The menu is farm to table and our appetizers, meals and desserts were delicious. The wine list was very nice as well. We thought it was a good value for our money.
The Oak Table is a very good restaurant. Good ingredients, expertly and creatively prepared, always headline. I started with a duck foie "funnel cake," a fun take on carnival food. I enjoyed grilled octopus even though the harissa initially struck me as heavy-handed. The heat evened out after a few forks of the local field pea base, a great take on the traditional north African base of chickpeas. The servers are knowledgeable, courteous and helpful.
Love outside area to enjoy view of the capital. Good service and food except for one dish. $35 ribeye had to be sent back. Extremely tough and chewy. Graciously replaced with lamb shank, which was fabulous. Prompt and attentive resolution to problem. Couldn't ask for more.
Todd Woods is an amazing chef with a true creative vision when it comes to his food. We had an amazing anniversary and felt so special being at the Oak Table. If we lived in Columbia we would make it a frequent date night location. Unique items like the Foie Gras and Funnel Cake, and the Dry Aged Rib Eye were to die for. I had never had Octopus before - until Saturday - and it was SO good. My husband is an Old Fashioned Snob but the bartender outdid themselves. He said it was the best he had ever had. My Blueberry Bouquet was so tasty! When dessert arrived it was a deconstructed Cheesecake along with house made sorbet and ice cream. UNBELIEVEABLE!
The one item that still has my mouth watering was Todd's grits - I have never had grits that were so creamy and delicious. Todd outdid himself!
Bryan took great care of us. They made sure that our anniversary was so special from the time we walked in, until when we left. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
