The Oak Table Ratings and Reviews
Came to The Oak Table to celebrate a post-graduate Commencement and my mother visiting from overseas. Understandably, the restaurant was booked up later in the evening so we were seated at 5pm as a party of six. Outstanding service from Amanda - very knowledgeable about the menu and its ingredients, and she made we had everything we may need. The food was delicious; one of our party had the NC Snapper and said it was perhaps the best fish he had ever eaten. The Cava was reasonably priced and a very nice accompaniment. The most meaningful part of the evening was the restaurant's willingness to prepare the grilled cheese from the lunch menu as a special request. It truly made for a memorable occasion - I am so grateful for the way we were taken care of. Thank you.
We felt rushed - We were going to order more, but had had enough. The restaurant was practically empty at 6:30 when we left! I have been coming there since they opened - many, many times - and have noticed a real drop -off in service and staff training.
Great location, and food, so it is unfortunate at those prices to have bad service.
Went there for husband's birthday. Disappointed that there weren't adequate menu options for kids. Birthday boy had the fillet which was amazing and I had the muscles which were also very good. Our daughters fish was dry and son's flat iron steak was a bit over cooked. Bianca, our server, was amazing and really tried to make up for short comings. I would give it another try (without kids).
Long wait time for food. Roughly over an hour between our initial appetizers and salads. Hostess apologized for the wait time, yet didn't seem to want to do anything about it besides asking if we wanted more drinks. Early in the evening as well (6:30p) and they were not inundated with patrons. I understand delays, but if you charge roughly +$30 average entree in Columbia, then you should be prepared to match that price with service. Comping a plate, instead of asking if our table wanted to pay $70 for another round of drinks (6) seems rational and would of put my review up to 4 for service. I've had other meals at Oak Table, so this was an exception, but nonetheless indicative of their service practices.
Really overall pleasant experience this trip. This was our first time back in several years. Food was very good, seating was poor, young lady who I assume was the manager stopped by and was very pleasant. My complaint was with our server who was ok when he stopped "telling" me what I wanted to drink and finally listened. When people tell you they have reactions or allergies to certain foods staff needs to listen or there will be problems. I'll go back but I will ask for a different table and different wait staff.
Overall this is a good spot.
Our waiter was, phenomenal! I have never had a better waiter. This young man knew the specials and menu in depth and described everything wonderfully. Very professional, but also warm. He has a bright future in the upscale restaurant business!! We were there Saturday, March 25th at 8
First visit for a luncheon meeting with two board members. Nice environment, unobtrusive service, and a well chosen menu - a variety of choices but not overwhelming. The chef has skillfully chosen ingredients that work well together but are comfortable for non-foodies. The fish tacos (skate with cornmeal breading) were great. A cosmopolitan experience, at a good value.
