Service was definitely subpar. Our actual server was very good. He was attentive and friendly. This was in contrast to the hostesses working the front. They were not exactly rude but certainly not welcoming. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation for brunch and were told they would seat us closer to the reservation time. There were plenty of open tables but rather than seat us we stood and waited until several minutes AFTER the reservation time when one of them finally decided to take us to our table. Their aloof attitude certainly will not fit into the Hall's culture. We were just at Hall's Chophouse 2 weeks ago and could not have had a better experience. Talk about night and day! We can't wait for Hall's to arrive. My guess is Hall's management won't tolerate the staff I saw this weekend at the Oak Table.
My fav place to go for brunch. Truly the best food and service! This restaurant will be missed and I hope it will make its way back to SC one day.
The truffle fries came highly recommended. They were okay but just a bit salty. My well done steak was perfection.
I wish our server would have checked on us more frequently. I recall only seeing her twice during our meal and of course, once was when bringing the tab.
The food was great as always, but the service was painfully slow which is a surprise because the restaurant wasn't even very full at 530 on a Saturday. We were seated on time at 530, but we didn't get our main courses until about 645. I still think it's a great restaurant overall though.
I've been several times usually for brunch after church this is the first time I've gone for dinner. I wanted the deep-fried lobster but was told it was not available and that I would have to call ahead for that. the waiter suggested just having two lobster tails as a meal so two of us ordered two lobster tails each, they were not cooked at all I sent it back and they nuked the pieces and brought it back out, terribly. The sides were not very good either, the mashed potatoes and the cauliflower with the potatoes not good, truffle fries were very salty. The bread pudding was very good. Disappointed!!
Good food and service
We showed 10 min late for our reservation and they were closed. Hours stated open until 11 and they closed at 1010. I received 3 confirmation calls and said we would be there. I was slightly irritated they called 3 times and we believe that is why they closed the doors on us.
The beef wellington was excellent. However, the fish of the day was dry.
We dined early so the restaurant was not crowded. The food (pan - seared sweet and spicy salmon) was delicious and the view overlooking the State Capitol building can't be beat for an in-city eatery.
Great food and service.
This was our second outing to the Oak Table. The service was outstanding as before. Ryan took great care of us as my wife and I celebrated our anniversary. Can’t say enough good things about the food either. It was phenomenal. The dry aged bone in ribeye is a must if it’s on the menu. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for a quiet place to enjoy an excellent farm to table dining experience.
I absolutely loved it! From the scallops to the perfectly cooked ny strip! Excellent service, great food, excellent all around!
The food is fresh and delicious - though a bit pricey.
Great location, on Main St. overlooking South Carolina's Capital building.
Good hand crafted cocktails, great farm to table menu. Steaks were prepared perfectly.
Servers and staff were friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was warm and welcoming.
Great restaurant for a special occasion or to have a very nice dinner.
Was there for a birthday dinner.
Our server offered us a birthday dessert- their signature bread pudding- delectable.
Excellent atention, every perfect , we love the place
excellent lunch // fantaxtic waiter we would love to come back
Food was delicious, best oyster Rockefeller ever. Great service and atmosphere.
Wonderful services, food was amazing!
Excellent and friendly service. Food excellent. Get a reservation.
We loved everything about it. The best part was the service. Our server was amazing!
This was the 2nd time I've been for Sunday brunch and bottomless mimosas, with friends! The food is delish, and their mimosas are mixed perfectly , not too much OJ!
Server was OUTSTANDING, food was great, Bloody Mary was so so, Coffee excellent, rabbit was very nice and intriguing combination
My wife and I were looking forward to trying this restaurant, however it did not live up to the reviews and price. We seldom leave reviews and we are not picky people. Overall the whole experience was just flat. Food was pricey but average. Service was okay but server seemed detached for a high-end restaurant. Atmosphere was not cozy or relaxed...way too many servers and staff walking all over the place. Décor was really great and the style is smart, but it just fell short in too many other areas for us to come back. If you go, keep your expectations in check.
As a resident of Columbia my wife and I had not been to the oak table. We have been meaning to go for years as we have heard good things. We decided to go for our anniversary on Thursday night. We knew it was going to be pricey. We both ordered a filet. Mine was medium rare hers medium. I added lump crab oscar and hers with mushroom sauce. When they arrived hers was rare. Mine looked like medium, but was acceptable. The waitress and manager came quickly and said to her... “well it is a thick steak, that happens sometimes”. They took hers to correct the problem. Meanwhile I ate my whole meal reluctantly in what seemed like 15 minutes (understandably). Then once hers arrived she had to eat hers alone.
So in summary we were disappointed with really no apology. No hey let me get you another glass on the house while you wait. No here is a dessert on the house. Just a sorry that happens. Meanwhile. It was $154 for 2 glasses of house wine, 2 -8oz filets, and a table side of collard greens. I would recommend another establishment in the area for a nice meal.
Extremely enjoyable dinner for prom night
My wife had the catch of the day and I had the 16 oz. rib eye. Both were delicious and well prepared. I was a little put off by the need to order ala carte vegetables to go with my steak, as they were sized and priced for two or more. My wife's dish and all the other non-steak entrees came with veggies and she didn't want more potatoes on top of those on her plate. If you need to make more money on top of a $40 steak, I think it would be better to have individual size side dishes.
Everything was great, except that we had a reservation and we were seated on a bench right between the only other two couples in the restaurant. All of the other tables were open.
We ate there twice since the first time was so great. On visit one on a Saturday, the Pimento Bacon spread, not on the menu was fantastic. Unfortunately, two days later it was unavailable. The meat charcuterie was delightful with an excellent liver pate'. On visit one, the CAB steak was very flavorful. On visit two on a Monday., the pork loin was dry and over cooked. however, eat at the bar which overlooks the State Capital at night and is the best view in town.
It was delicious, the menu was creative and so were the drinks. The waiters were very nice and attentive. The restaurant had a nice setting and the decor was fun.
The chicken in a waffle was horrible. But the manager took it off my bill. Please return to the old way of cooking it.
Enjoyed a great evening for my husband birthday. Great food and wine. Fun and romantic atmosphere.
Spent a night in Columbia during the Master's Tournament and was lucky enough to find this gem of a restaurant. From the initial drink at the bar to every aspect of the meal the experience was first rate. Food was great, service was great, even the bread course was great. Would certainly go back if I'm ever in Columbia again.
Had a dear friend in town so we decided to treat ourselves and The Oak Table did not disappoint! New grilled Caesar salad was enjoyed by all at the table and the steaks were delicious-will definitely be back!
The staff was not friendly,Menus hard to read due to low ink in the printer...seriously, Crazy for higher end restaurant. The food was creative and good. Thinking we caught them on a really off night.
The food was very good, but we waited 15 minutes for our drinks, another 15 for our appetizers and over an hour from when we ordered our brunch. The manager apologized, but they were not busy when we came and they were just not prepared at 10:30 when they opened.
Jamie was awesome! Very friendly and knowledgeable. Great night 😊
The music and ambiance was loud for a business dinner. Recommend accommodating a quieter location in the restaurant when event room is occupied. Food and service was excellent.
The food is excellent, service was prompt and attentive.
