The Norwich Inn
The Norwich Inn has a foundation that dates back to 1797 when Colonel Jasper Murdock served his first ale. Since 1797 the restaurant has constantly evolved to what it is today.
At The Norwich Inn, we view our food philosophy as a celebration of ingredients that are cherished in our community. We are a revitalization of food identity, culture, and authenticity. Our restaurant is not one concept, but rather a lifestyle, thus, we must constantly change in order to stay the same. We strive to create honest and wholesome experiences for each guest.

It is very pleasant sitting outside on their brick patio, The wait staff was excellent.
The social distancing and other Covid-19 precautions were all as one would hope.
This is the second time I have gone there under these circumstances and in both cases, all was just right. I return frequently for their cheddar burger---super!
Steak was wonderful. Best version yet.
We arrived and were sat on time, but no one came to our table for 15 minutes. We ordered 3 appetizers and drinks and it took 30 minutes to get our food. The food itself was fine, but a frustrating experience overall.
Hi Nicole, Thank you for your feedback. We strive to offer a pleasant, professional and efficient experience for all of our guests and apologize that we fell short on this evening. Due to unforeseen circumstances we were unable to provide our normal standard of service on this particular evening. This is not our usual experience and we apologize sincerely that your experience was affected by our issues that evening. We value the feedback and will use it to hopefully prevent this in the future.
Kitchen needs to degrease their sauce. I ordered the lamb stew. It came in a bowl with a thin liquid like soup. The liquid quickly separated into fat and sauce with a level of grease (fat) floating on top.
My wife and daughter each ordered a burger. They were stacked and nicely presented but the meat was low on taste after you took away everything else.
We read prior reviews so we expected slow service and it sure was slow. Our waitress could have been better, she never mentioned any specials and seemed in a rush to take our orders. However much of a rush she was in, the kitchen certainly wasn’t.
However the room was nice but a bit loud.
Beautiful atmosphere, great friendly service. Food was worth the price. Definitely going back.
VERY slow service.
Caesar salad not as good as previous chef’s. English muffins are cooked so that bottom are overcooked a treat is undercooked. Otherwise everything is great!
Fantastic food, but exceptionally good service. Our server, Morgan, made sure we were comfortable the entire evening and offered plenty of suggestions about the menu. She made sure we had everything we needed, didn't forget a single condiment or side, and packed our leftovers up perfectly. We were well taken care of and would definitely go back again. A great date night!
The dining rooms have become really attractive: small bouquets of flowers, candlelight, twinkly lights and soft gray walls. Tables are nicely set apart allowing for easy conversation. I now have dinner there with a friend every several weeks and it never disappoints.
The Norwich Inn has a little gem of a restaurant! I have been there twice in the last month and both times it was a wonderful experience. The staff makes you feel at home. Ask for a table near the fireplace and you will feel warm a cosy while tasting delectable creations. A must visit in Vermont!
Service was a little slow. Beautiful venue!
Our family of 6 loved the Norwich Inn and being able to use Open Table to make the reservation. It was a great value for a historic Vermont Inn and the very fresh and delicious food. We enjoyed seeing the holiday decorations. We had a very satisfying evening there.
Wonderful food and service. One hopes that lunch will return sometime soon.
Excellent brunch/lunch; nice table, efficient service, reasonably priced
Nice meal for my group of three. Steak was excellent, chicken very good (only complaint on chicken dish was that the grain included with it was cold - and I was not expecting that, especially on a chilly fall night). We ordered the cheese board to start and it was terrific -- plenty of crackers (but still supplemented by a basket of bread - love my carbs!), three generous servings of cheese, mixed olives, pickled onions, and big dollops of fig and bacon spreads. Service was attentive but not overly. White wine by the glass choice was nice but not a big fan of the two red glasses we tried. Maybe better selection by the bottle? Desserts sounded good but we did not get that far! Restaurant is nice and cozy (as is the adjoining pub), with a fireplace close to where we were seated. This was the primary reason we chose to come to the Inn for dining - knowing that the atmosphere would be a treat.
The Inn must have been having an off night. Our server was horrible and took way too long to greet and even longer to take drink orders. When dinner came to the table all four meals were ice cold. The server kept breezing by but never stopped or allowed us to get her attention so we ate our meals as is. We have been to the Inn and had a wonderful experience. This simply was not one of them and we left disappointed with the whole evening.
The food was excellent. We both had the filet mignon which was cooked perfectly and melted in your mouth.
Proposed to my girlfriend in front of the fireplace.
Staff was very excited and took our picture.
Always love the Sunday night special of grass-fed beef with a baked potato and asparagus, along with the profiterole for dessert. Generous portions and a real bargain! Beforehand this time, we shared the warm marinated olives and the house salad--always fresh with a delicious dressing.
Great for breakfast
What made this evening so special was the excellence in service - and enthusiasm in celebrating three birthdays. The food was phenomenal— and the atmosphere charming. Look forward to many more dinners.
Such a beautiful Inn. Highly recommend. Great versatile menu and great value! We went with out of town guests and everyone had a great meal!
Fabulous dinner. Love the ambiance. The Inn has been kept in amazing condition. The service and food were top notch. Would definitely return. Great for special occasions and quiet dinners.
We went for late brunch and were the last people there for the sitting, so it was peaceful & quiet. My food was good although it could have been a bit warmer. My wife's eggs were not cooked how she ordered them so she didn't eat them. Our waitress apologized but only a small token amount was taken off the bill. Service was okay, but the staff seemed more concerned about closing down for a break between the brunch & dunner serving times.
We'll try it again but probably at a different time of day.
Breakfast in an old dining room by the window. My wife and I enjoy the old NE feel. The eggs Benedict was perfect for me. My wife enjoyed the French toast. Relaxing, no rush breakfast.
Great dinner. Took visiting parents here because I knew it would be great food and service. It did not disappoint. Had excellent food and exceptional waitress.
Nice, friendly staff and food proportions generous. However, the salmon served "niçoise style" was a disappointment, however, and did not even resemble the photograph on its website. I would have liked to have seen this main course served with the traditional accompaniments of hard-boiled egg, green beans, tomatoes, niçoise olives, and anchovy fillets with an olive oil dressing. This version had only one tiny, slicedy olive, three or four green beans, one small potato quartered, and no hard-boiled egg, and while the salmon was served on a bed of mixed greens, they were made soggy by their swimming in a heavy, tomato-dominated stew. Too bad, as the salmon itself was grilled very well. Before continuing to keep this item on the menu, the chef might like to take a look at the classic recipe by Epicurious or Bon Appetit.
Lovely atmosphere. Our server went out of her way to accommodate our dietary needs. Food was very good, although the menu felt a bit limited. Desserts were delicious and memorable. Would happily return anytime.
Had the paella it was pretty tasteless.
The restaurant is very nice, upscale yet welcoming to families. The handmade chips were the best we've ever had. The alehouse porter and stout are our new favorite beer!
Superb brunch. Their Eggs Benedict were sumptuous. Two of us had their Benedicts. Then the other two had their Eggs Napoleon, which left us liking our fingers. Seriously good. The Mimosas were a great side... And strong and wonderful cappuccino for the coffee addict in us. Service was spotless.
Wonderful food and service, not 5 star but close.
We traveled from Essex Junction just to have dinner here, and it was totally worth the drive. Beautiful atmosphere, friendly service and delicious food. We will definitely be back this fall.
Love the Sunday night special of a standing rib roast, served with a baked potato (with sour cream and chives) and asparagus! It comes with a dessert of profiteroles with ice cream, although we usually ask for a whipped cream substitute. A real bargain! Their salads are always great, too, and we love that you can order samplers of any of the beers from the Norwich Inn's own microbrewery.
We got burgers because it looked like the only thing to trust on the menu. Their wine selection was not good. Dry whites and roses were very low budget and not good. They had just one IPA beer on the menu from the on-site brewery, which is what I was most looking forward too, but alas it was more of a malty lager than an IPA. I could hardly taste hops through the heavy malt. Not at all an IPA.
The menu options were varied and the quality of the food was very good. I like the makeover of the dining room -- though now it clashes a bit with the old fashioned Vermont waiting room.
The food at Norwich Inn was excellent from appetizer to dessert. The beer selection is solid and I was pleased that they offer a variety of beer beyond just IPAs. The mussels dish was quite generous, and the bread was delicious with a nice crumb.
Restaurant was a perfect for our family of 4. All our meals were amazing and everyone walked out happy and satisfied.
Great food and great service.
It was a Saturday. We arrived early. They were very accommodating. Food was very good. Service was VERY, VERY good. It was a very pleasant meal.
Food, service and ambiance was outstanding! Thank you for a very enjoyable dining experience!!
