The crab cakes were great but not worth $6 a piece. For $12, I would have expected at least 4 crab cakes but only got 2. The greens with it were wilted and the Caesar salad did not look overly fresh. I have eaten there before and this was the least favorite meal that I have had there. Overall, disappointed.
Our two friends were our guests for the evening, and they had never been to NHH. They were greatly impressed!
Always a pleasant meal and excellent wait staff, good variety well prepared and served good beer and wine selection. My favorite dish, clam chowder with a delicate smoked pepper hint, I believe I could survive very well on just this one item, Its that good! Worth the trip just to try it, fish and chips are pretty good too.
Such a lovely place, and this may be the state’s BEST waterfront restaurant. We had an eggplant appetizer and steak this time, and we have tried nearly every entree in the past. Always excellent. The service is unfailingly friendly and professional. Great food, carefully prepared. Nothing complicated, just delicious plates at very reasonable prices. The porch is a great place to dine with an amazing view across Lake Champlain, and the interior dining room (and small bar area) are dressed up, beautifully decorated. We drive an hour each way, but an evening here is always worth it!
This is one of our favorites. Coming to area from quite a visit on a getaway, it made our anniversary dinner even more special, when our son found out we were going there and called ahead and paid for it.
Our meal tasted fabulous, I highly recommend the seared scallop dish. I have Crohn's disease and they accommodated my dietary needs by allowing me to switching out a few of the items that came with my dish to fit my restrictions. Everyone said there meals where excellent which included the pork lion dinner, as well as the salmon dinner. Our server Lorie was outstanding. However, one waitress was rather rude but one bad apple would not stop us from returning again. Other than that everything was great the atmosphere was super relaxing and the views of the lake were great. Really the only thing I thought could be adjusted is how close the tables were next to each other out on the porch it felt a little cramped especially when you have two big guys with you but even that would not stop us from going again. I have already referred a friend from out of town who has lunch reservations for this Thursday. Thank you for a fantastic meal and evening. Again I can't say enough positive things about our server Lorie. We'll be back for sure.
Picture perfect evening overlooking the water and mountains- the food exceeded expectations and it was perfect for our small party celebrating my husband’s birthday-
This is one of the best restaurants in the area. Excellent food, service and views!
Great Service, great view, great food. Enjoyed the meal.
Very disappointed by our first visit. We were expecting to have a romantic anniversary dinner overlooking Lake Champlain. We were seated on a porch overlooking the lake but it was so stuffy and so noisy we couldn't even converse in a normal tone of voice. The server was friendly but service overall was very slow. The food varied. My husband had a pork dish which was outstanding but I had a pasta Bolognese that was so-so--couldn't decide if the sauce lacked flavor or that there was just so little of it that it was spread too thinly over the pasta causing it to taste bland. Overall, this seems to be more of a local gathering spot than a place to celebrate a special event.
Such a lovely spot! And great food and service as well. The menu is not overwhelming - just the right amount of options, both lite fare and not, nice focus on local and in-season ingredients. Beckie, our server, was attentive and personable. The tabe by the window, with a fabulous view of Lake Champlain was just the icing on the cake.
Got Two other couples to go with us because we truly enjoyed it the last time.
I have already sent a review ..do not know where it went ...but I hope you received it.
Everything was great but the fish on top of the french fries made the fish very soggy and wet on the bottom.
Please put it separately from the french fries on the plate...not piled in a bowl.
Fish is supposed to have crispy batter and it didn’t...there was 6 of us and we all felt the same way.
Erin our waitress was a real “Gem”. She is a true asset to the restaurant👍😊
We arrived by boat a little late and the hostess was very pleasant and understanding. There were 4 of us and we had a great seat on the front porch with a beautiful view of the lake. The prime rib Shepard's pie was excellent.
Fantastic service, excellent food and a wonderful view! Can't ask for much more.
Solid overall experience. We dined with 4 kids and they were very accommodating.
Food was great. Server was responsive and friendly. Menu integrates seasonal foods. Good kids menu.
Limited wine list - more offerings would be ideal. I had trouble finding a bottle for kore than $40 on the list. Great if you’re on a budget, but I’d happily spend more on a nice bottle.
Overall, very happy. We will come again.
Excellent food and service as always. A bit too noisy out on he porch.
Not the first time we had dinner at North House over the years. Great entrées but as for the main course, was a bit disappointed, mixing scallops with beans was not a good choise, in my view. This said, we will definitively go back to North Hero as it has been one of our favorite summer spot.
Very nice atmosphere with a beautiful view of the lake with porch dining. Service could have been a little better as the waitress never came back until we were done eating.
Have been here before last year and a couple years ago. Quite good food previously, presentation just okay and value just okay if food was good. Today was completely different. Service was fine, but the food was awful. Appetizer, salad and main meal was NOT worth eating, other than the mussels which were good. Clam chowder was over powered by a seasoning, tarragon I think. Ceaser salad was not fresh and had been sitting for a while. Polenta was the worse thing all night. Calamari was a 3 out of 10, lots of fried batter, no flavor, and the sauce was neither delicious or interesting at all. Scallop entree was overpowered by a strange spice that just didn't seem to go with the scallops. Some at our table thought they were too rubbery, but I thought the scallops themselves were fine, but not worth eating with all the strong flavor of the sauce. Wine, drinks were fine. Service was fine, but when they asked us how the food tasted even though I don't think any of us have done this before we told them. It was poor. The manager came out but didn't do anything for us even though we all left large portions of what we had ordered. It just wasn't worth eating and I rarely if ever say that. Just ask my wife!
This was out second meal here because the first one was so good. The restaurant is beautiful, especially sitting on the porch out front with a view of the lake. We weer lucky enough to have Casey as our waitress again. She is fantastic! The food was just as good as the first time around. Everything was cooked perfectly an perfectly seasoned. If we lived in the area, we would eat at the North Hero House all the time.
Remarkable food, prompt and friendly service. Nice and quiet atmosphere. NHH exceeded our expectations.
Our dinner was awesome. The restaurant is beautiful. The service was excellent. The quality of the food was just outstanding. Everything from the special tomato torta appetizer to the chocolate cake dessert was absolutely delicious. We would highly recommend this place to anyone in search of a great meal. We cannot day enough about this place. Unfortunately we were only here on vacation, but we would come back very frequently if lived in the area. If you are ever here near Lake Chaplain, you must this one of your places to have dinner.
We dined early Sunday evening in the hopes of beating the crowd but our service could have been better. Next time, we will try the snack bar across the road
We had our dinner on the porch and it was beautiful looking at the lake. The waitress we had was very attentive and sweet.
We celebrated my husbands 40 years of working at the BIA and that place is super loud.
The porch was very peaceful.
Thank you for a perfect dinner and night.
We love this restaurant. Great variety of small and large plates and the early bird special is amazing!!! We love seeing Tammy especially!
What a night! The wine was spot on and the food was delicious! Service was friendly and prompt and there was no rush...The table was great too! Loved it!
My mother was in town from Florida and I wanted to experience a nice Vermont restaurant. I had heard a lot of good things about the North Hero House and we were not disappointed. The ambiance was excellent as well as the staff and food, would highly recommend this establishment!!
the waitress was fantastic! Love sitting on the porch watching the birds, the water, the people, the traffic etc. My pork was yummy!
I'm a real bird lover and I was in my element!
Everything was great at North Hero House: food, service and ambiance. I have high standards for dining and this met all of my expectations. Our waitress could not have been any better. She was attractive, polite, friendly, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and attentive. We enjoyed an exquisite view of the mountains beyond Lake Champlain with white cloth napkins and tablecloth. The food was excellent and prices were not extreme considering the quality.
When you have the good fortune to find a beautiful spot with great views in an older building with great character, you might expect the food and service to lack, and be ok with it. Not at this location. This restaurant has it all. A little further out for us, but well worth the drive. Great presentation, food cooked to perfection, great quality on the dishes and served by a very friendly and attentive wait person. Could not have asked for a better place to celebrate our anniversary. A new go to spot for us now.
Lovely ambiance, delicious food and beautiful presentation. Halibut, which was a special the evening we dined, certainly rivaled the halibut I often have in Provincetown, MA. Though far from the ocean, absolutely fresh and coked exactly as I requested.
Impeccable service with amazing views off the front patio area. We totally enjoyed our meal and the ambiance of the restaurant.
It was our 30th anniversary, and we wanted something special. It was a beautiful drive to North Hero, and then there was the restaurant, right on the water, perfect for a hot day. The table was set, ready for us. The kitchen provided a complementary cheese plate, totally unexpected. Our server, Casey, was a gem, and the food was delicious. I have since recommended the North Hero House to others. It was perfect for our special day!
Great meal, great service, great view! Will spread the word and will be back soon!
Enjoyed a variety of dishes— meat, fish, veggie. All very well prepared often using local ingredients Responsive and friendly staff. Would be happy to come back.
This was our first visit. The reservations were to celebrate my husbands birthday. The food was divine, service impeccable but we were seated right beside a table of 3 on the porch that were very loudly discussing religion in an extremely zealot point of view. I clearly understand freedom of religion however it was clear this table was loud and most likely making other patrons uncomfortable... especially due to the loudness of conversation. There were plenty of seats in other areas of the establishment that I wish we had at least been offered. That said, we should have asked.
An excellent evening, as usual, at North Hero House. City Bay is such an outstanding view of Champlain... ask for a table on the porch. Their kitchen has really kicked it up over the last few years. Herb toast app with avocado slices, thick applewood bacon, chevre, and balsamic glaze was delicious. Half rack of lamb with jalapino ragu and chevre was done to perfection. The "cannoli cake" desert special was ok but did not resemble cannoli in any way (their deserts are baked locally and are normally outstanding).
BTW, during the summer, the Pier Bar is a great spot for lunch or happy hour when you're cruising the lake by car or boat.
We love the North Hero House. Fresh vegetables, homemade desserts, creative entrees, and good portions. Not to mention the quaint atmosphere and beautiful lake views!
A very nice experience, good food and great service ,had a window table with a wonderful view of the lake
