the NIXON Chops & Whiskey Ratings and Reviews
I was pleasantly surprised. The food was VERY good and the service was wonderful. The four in our party each ordered different items so we could all try. Delicious. The 1980 tuna (which I thought was going to be in a can!) was poke...very good. Shrimp was spicy and good. Our steaks were cooked perfectly and the side dishes were great. Be sure to order dessert...fun and good. The noise lever is very high in the main dining room, but there is a nice patio room in the back were you can hear each other talk. The restaurant is a great addition to Whittier
I was excited to try this new steakhouse..... but I was a little disappointed. Food was over seasoned ........ and expect to order your sides separate ........, my husband thought the pozole broth did not go well with the Salmon......... We really enjoyed Seta' much better.
Had 3 appetizers (bacon with bbq sauce, ceviche, and lobster bisque) a main course with a side (pork chop, truffle mac n cheese) and desert (banana fosters) and everything except for a the desert was excellent. The lobster bisque was on the house because our main course took a while. Everybody was extremely friendly, great value, and the live music was nice as well, overall will recommend and will go back
I really wanted to love this restaurant. Things started off great, appetizers were amazing - tried the mussels and guac with crab. Mussels had really good flavor and never would have thought cooking mussels in coconut milk would work, but it just did with the combination of herbs and spices. The guac was equally tasty and I loved the pairing with oranges and radishes. The extra dab of homemade hot sauce they recommended we try - paired perfectly too.
Then came the mains. When you say your staple is steaks the chef really needs to know how to cook a steak. My friend ordered the ribeye medium-rare and it came out medium-well. For me it was perfect so the bit i tried was amazing, but we ended up having to send it back and explain was medium-rare was. I ordered the wagyu, which tasted like liver. In my experience wagyu is more or a marbled beef and not at all what I recollected. Luckily they were willing to replace it with the filet. All in all the wagyu and filet were just ok. We also tried several sides - mushrooms, mac and cheese, brussel sprouts and fingerling potatos. The mac and cheese and potatos hit the spot, but the mushrooms were a tad too salty for me and the brussel sprouts were on the sweet side.
All in all the service is great and I think with some perfecting of their steaks the restaurant will have a good future.
The restaurant was extremely noisy! I have never understood why restaurants have to be so noisy nor why people tolerate it.
The food was good.
Side selections with the steaks were great.
Service was only fair. There were lots of wait staff coming around to the table with water, but our main server was inexperienced. This isn’t really acceptable when you are paying this much for dinner.
The decor was nice and so was the friendly staff. However, we’re not likely to return. The food was just OK, nothing special. The worst part was that there wasn’t a kid friendly portion to the menu. Even when we asked for something simple like a quesadilla or grilled cheese they had a hard time accommodating us. This was a disappointing surprise.
First time here and I was not disappointed, there customer service was amazing and their food was just out of this world. Appetizers are a must and i recommend the Bone Marrow Sopes its to die for, there steaks melt in your mouth. Well made signature drinks and dessert i recommend there version of Banana Fosters. The only thing that threw me off is the restaurant turns into a lounge nightlife and not sure what time they close. But other then that everything was just perfect.
Seta was closed for remodeling. There was nothing on the website and I was allowed to make a reservation. I understand things slipped through the cracks but someone should have made sure to contact me to let me know the places was closed. I reached out to them to confirm the night before and they confirmed it was closed for remodeling. This was the night before our reservation FOR 8, IN DECEMBER. Here I thought I planned weeks in advance and it would be a smooth evening but it turned into a hectic evening and one couple dropped out because of it.
We went there around 5 or 6pm i think, whatever the hours are on a Tuesday when they've just opened for evening patrons. I think that's why we were the only ones there, and so why it was so quiet. We didn't mind the quietness because I had to take a phone call anyways -- was nice to be able to take the call inside and not have to go outside to hear.
Waitress was lovely, she checked on us enough times, made good recommendations to help us order. Chef was great -- food tasted good -- mom ordered the salmon dinner, and I ordered the spinach/mushroom salad with steak. I loved the warm pancetta vinaigrette and crispy onion rings on top. Would come again.
I have been to SETA several times. I usually run into the same situation. Almost every time I go there are private parties going on and they are VERY NOISY. Once, previously, I made a reservation and it was subsequently cancelled on me because you had another private party booked. On this occasion, you sat us back in the lounge where, I thought, the noise level would be lower. However, we were seated right under the lounge speaker. That, plus the loud noise coming from the main dining room made conversation next to impossible. To make matters worse, because of the private party, my favorite half roasted chicken dish was not available.
So the date was a bit spoiled and my food was not what I wanted.
I go there because I thought it might be the romantic space to take a date in Whittier.
I'll start looking for another place
We had our daughter graduation dinner at Seta's and everything turned out perfect... Originally our reservations was for 8pm; however I called and requested to come in 1 hour early. Our server was amazing and the staff were very professional. The manger was so kind and arrange a graduation back drop for the 2017 graduates. We all took pictures and had a great time.
The NY steak sandwich and freshly made chips were AMAZING!!!! The steak was juicy, the ciabatta bread was perfectly soft on the inside and lightly cruncy on the outside. And the chipotle mayo was delish. Also the service was really good. They were very attentative, gracious, and accomodating.
Fantastic food, Great service,....The noisiest restaurant we've ever eaten in!!...We couldn't even talk to each other.....Maybe acoustic ceilings?...That was on a Friday;...We just ate there again last night; guitar music, minimal noise...We'll be weekday customers.
The food is absolutely amazing! Everything I've had has always been cooked to perfection. From the tuna tar tar to the tacos! The reason I'm not giving full stars is because we were there for an early dinner, about 5:30-6pm and there was an obnoxious group of people at the bar nearby. They were being very loud and rambunctious. I'm a rowdy girl myself but I know there is a time and place for that. I didn't see anyone ask them to tone it down in spite of the full dinner crowd trying to enjoy a nice dinner. Had it not been for that I would have given full stars.
Our dinner was exquisite, the. servers were the best, tThe ambience and music was great. However, we were disappointed that we could not use the $20 gift towards the meal emailed to us for our anniversary, which happens to fall on Valentine's Day. We don't have any problems paying for our meal, but felt it was false advertisement to email the coupon to us and then be denied when presented.
Chef Molina always puts together thee most tastiest sauce on his steaks. I love the Bourbon Au Jus sauce over the Prime Rib and Habanero Chorizo Sauce over a Filet Mignon. The Jalapeno infused Margarita was delicious as well. Thank you Chef Molina and staff! My family loves your food and the live entertainment. Never change..
My husband and I were here for dinner and the food was better than delicious, it was wonderful.
The place has simple decor, the bar was packed, but the food is better than excellent. We had appetizers, salad, soup and entrees. We could have licked our plates. We will definitely return.
I thought it would be a good place to go and have dinner with a couple of customers. The food overall was excellent. In terms of service, two of my main factors are water and bread. The restaurant failed on both of these accounts. Also having the tip as a flat 18% no matter what does not incentive servers to do a good job. Also a pet peeve is to follow the food out and ask how is everything tasting when I have not even gotten to try it. Probably would advise another restaurant if you care about service.
