Thank you for the excellent service! We enjoyed our wedding anniversary celebration. We will be back for sure!
Heard about this place a couple weeks ago and knew we had to try it, especially since we live in Downey and it’s so close. The initial greeting once at our table was very slow (only 1 server in the area)..almost making us leave..think we waited close to 15 minutes. Way too long! But, once we ordered and received our appetizers and dinner we were pleasantly surprised. The quality of the food is exactly what we expected! Will definitely go back!
Excellent food and great service!
Found myself in Whittier this evening after a family event. My mom and I were hungry and we stumbled onto The Nixon Chops & Whiskey and could not have been any more pleased with choosing this restaurant.
The whiskey recommendation based on a whiskey I love that’s from Texas was perfect. Our waitress helped me select a whiskey with similar notes and I was thrilled with the Balcones whiskey. I ordered the 10oz Hand Cut Filet Mignon prepared medium rare and the steak was perfectly prepared. The crispy fingerling potatoes were absolutely divine. I also had the Charred Brussel Sprouts and they were fabulous with that vanilla bacon butter. I literally cannot stop talking about the vanilla bacon butter on the Brussel Sprouts!
Ask about the Umami Dime Bag! You won’t be disappointed!
My mom had the Maple Glazed Pork Chops and she devoured them along with the Whipped Russet Potatoes.
We ordered the KFC Bananas for desert and what a visual delight they were in addition to being one of the best desserts I’ve encountered in my life.
For me, a dining experience really stands out when attention to every detail is paid and all of my senses are engaged. The NIXON Chops & Whiskey delivered it all. I live in Glendale and I will absolutely be making my way back down to Whittier to enjoy an exquisite dinner here again soon.
Really enjoyed the meal tonight! Best flat iron steak ever. Found the menu to be interesting too. Look forward to returning.
Would have given 3 stars but service helped pushed it to a 4. The hostess, the server, the team making sure water was full and plates cleared all did an amazing job. The ribeye was really really salty. We let the waitress know who let the kitchen know.
We were intrigued by the name of the restaurant and its location. In town for family business, my husband and I went for a late anniversary dinner. The entry way is very modern - the clean, gray, porcelain tile, etc. The hostess was great - greeted us immediately and led us to a table.
As I sat down at the chair, it seemed to give beneath me a little, the springs busted from years of use, though the restaurant is only a few months old. There were smears on the lovely plate - looked incompletely washed. And then we sat there for a good 7 minutes or so before our waiter came by! Even at a Denny's I wouldn't expect this, and certainly not at a joint where I'm paying around $30 for an entree! Before the waiter arrived, it's true, someone came by and gave us glasses of champagne, but it wasn't the waiter. And that sort of marked the level of service through the evening. I think he was over-booked - not his fault - but a well managed restaurant wouldn't seat two or three parties in the same waiter's area at the same time!
The food was definitely better than the service, but uneven at that price point. The wedge salad was meh - kind of bitter, a little watery, not impressive. The steaks were good though - meat quality was good and we liked the options to add blue cheese and bacon to the entree, which made it fun. The house after dinner drink was killer - can't recall what was in it, but really good.
It feels like they are still working on getting it put together. Throughout the meal, we were left waiting for the server to bring us a drink or check back with us or clear our plates - not what one expects for that price point. He was nice and everything, but whether due to poor management or lack of skills, it just wasn't smooth. With time, I hope they work the kinks out, because it seems a fun and delicious addition to the uptown scene.
First visit since it changed from Seta. Very impressed with the service. Lentil soup was outstanding! I had the pork chops, my wife had the filet mignon. Both were excellent! We will definitely be coming back.
Absolutely fabulous experience the food and ambiance was perfect!
Good food but very slow and poor service. We were there two and 1/2 hours mostly just waiting. The noise level was unbearable, almost impossible to carry on a conversation. We were a party of eight and had great difficulty understanding eachother. The chef is Mexican and many of the foods had a south of the border flavor. The 'table salad' was delicious and the salmon excellent. The corn side order had so many flavors it was difficult to distinguish the corn. If you have a $$ budget and some time you might enjoy this restaurant. When we made the reservation the question was, "Is this a special occasion?" The answer was, "Birthday," but that was the end. No further mention or anything special.
A great hidden gem deep in uptown Whittier. Great and unique selections with a japanese twist. Parking was easy and plentiful across the street for .75 for 2hrs. My wife and I will be back to try the other menus items.
Food was good but not for the value. Service was not stellar. Was celebrating a special occasion and noted it on my reservation but the restaurant did not even engage us. Service needs improvement.
Servers were disorganized and their attitude oddly rude. Manager was helpful and chef was friendly. Food on heavy flavor but good and fun
In a word: phenomenal. Unique twists and amazing flavors in the meals. Great drink choices and fab dessert options.
This place needs to figure out what time they close and stick to it. On the web, it says they close at 10 and twice we have made 9pm reservations, only to be told that they close the kitchen at 8:30pm and our reservation was a mistake. That's not my fault, fix your dang reservation system and post correct hours of operation on your website. Quit punishing customers for your poor service.
This new hot spot has the buzz. I can see how it appeals to the late crowd, although I am not one of them. I just want a special place with a special menu for a special occasion. My daughter and I met for lunch and asked for the back room so we could converse. The staff met our every request with such friendliness. Very creative menu.
Service is excellent and so as the food.
Easy parking, both on street and a public parking just across the street.
This Resturant is a wonderful addition to Uptown.. The food and service was very good and the food menu was so interesting that we all ordered and shared.. yummy.. I will be back!!
We had family in town and wanted to go to a nice place for dinner. The menu was not available online, but there was some good reviews so we tried Nixon Chops and Whiskey. The place had good ambiance, the service was good, we were greeted by a manager(?) who recognized that we were new and welcomed us and answered our questions about the new restaurant. I found the menu rather limited, but we had the filet mignon, fingerling potatoes. spinach, mashed potatoes and the brussel sprouts, and a salad and it was all delicious. I especially liked the garlic and seasoning for the beef.
Went in for lunch and everything was delicious!
Good experience. Unique food presentation, but it's backed up by the Food being great.
There aren't a lot of higher end restaurants in the Whittier area, so when SETA DINE closed
down we were saddened. Apart from Dal Rae & Cat & the Custard Cup, I constantly have to travel
to either Downtown LA or the Westside to get a decent meal. It's nice to know I have another
Everything from the cocktails to dessert was delicious! It’s definitely a little pricey and is best for special occasions.
Food was amazing!
AWESOME EXPERIENCE IN TASTE AND SERVICE not to mention The ambiance!
Food portions pretty small for the price. Steaks a little over cooked and salty.
Great place. Recommend to everyone.
This is the third time we have dined there in the past few months. It never disappoints. You are treated like family. We like to dine in the patio because it's quieter. We had a party of 7 this time and we could actually hear each other's conversation. The menu is fun and creative. Wonderful steaks. I think the appetizers are my favorite. My husband LOVES the desserts. I'd describe here, but the would spoil the fun and drama! Give it a try. You will love it.
Went here for “date night” after it was recommended to me. Everything was GREAT!!! It’s a bit pricey tho...dinner for 2 with a couple cocktails and tip was $280.00😳 but we both really enjoyed the food, service, atmosphere and overall experience!!! We will go back again:)!!
The chips and guacamole are good but so little for the price.
The steak salad was excellent. The filet mignon was excellently cooked.
It was beyond my expectations... The drinks were so good.... The service was friendly ,helpful and knowledgeable... The food was amazing... The best pork chop I've ever had
The food was very good but i don’t see us going back any time soon. They need to work out some kinks. Also, they had a DJ come in around 7:30-8, we could no longer carry on a normal conversation. We couldn’t figure out if we were in a night club or fine dining restaurant. The service was awful and even though the manager tried her hardest to make up for our waiter, it still wasn’t quiet enough.
I love this area of Whittier, and loved this restaurant when it was previously named Seta, but feel the restaurant wasn't staffed to handle the level of business they had last Friday. The service was bad, and while the food was delicious, my steak was cold when served. The waiter didn't have a clear knowledge of the various whiskeys on the menu, and when queried on the availability of a Caesar salad, he never came back with a suggestion. Very loud in the restaurant, and cocktail portions were very small. I really like the effort they put forth though, as this revamp is still relatively new, and I will give them another try. Really wish they would add a Caesar salad to their menu and pour their cocktails more liberally!
The food was fine, but the service was very poor. Our waiter took a long time to take our order, the restaurant was not crowded, so it wasn’t as if he had too many tables to serve. The bus boy spilled water on the table in front of my friend’s plate and was more concerned about clearing dishes rather than cleaning the spill. My friend asked for some items not to be put in her salad and he rudely asked her why. He was actually questioning for allergies, but that is not how it was delivered in his questioning.
The restaurant layout and decor did not change much from the previous restaurant at this location. The menu is a fusion of Latin and American. The table bread was good, the guacamole was tasty and the tamarind margarita was good, but not made from scratch. It feels like the restaurant is still trying to get its bearings; the chef checked in on us and noticed my blue cheese wedge salad was short on bacon bits, it was good but it was drenched in dressing. I think with some time they'll iron out the wrinkles and do fine. Overall, a nice place for a good meal, I would recommend the restaurant (although not necessarily cheap in price).
I would advise for the restaurant to offer more of a variety of bourbon/whiskey cocktails and a beer selection. Also, if you wish to upgrade the whiskey selection on a cocktail, you should be able to. I was informed that I couldn't because it was premixed.
We did receive exceptional and service from Melissa while we waited to be sat.
We celebrated a mommy to be...service was great, always checking to see if we needed anything. Food was delicious, drinks as well. I will definitely return!!
This was our second time there. Just outstanding. The food is so good and the service is even better. Tried the bacon and the octopus for starters this time. Delicious. The octopus is served with beans that are incredible. I could make a meal of just the beans. I had steak both times. Did not disappoint. What a great addition to Whittier.
Very smart, the restaurant called me to ask about my experience. So I actually gave a pretty detailed review to the person. The restaurant is new so I am hoping they will work out some food issues. Dad and daughter both ordered the steak and completely not cooked to the right temperature and dad's piece of meat did not look like a strip. Sautéed mushrooms very salty. Would order the chicharones again for sure! Desserts were yummy. Whittier needs some good fine dining so I hope the next time I go some of the kinks have been worked out. And it is unfortunate that the acoustics suck in the restaurant, was like that with the previous restaurant. Need to add to the interior to absorb the sound, looks great but no fun not being able to have a normal conversation because you can't hear the person across from you.
Almost every dish was to salty
I was pleasantly surprised. The food was VERY good and the service was wonderful. The four in our party each ordered different items so we could all try. Delicious. The 1980 tuna (which I thought was going to be in a can!) was poke...very good. Shrimp was spicy and good. Our steaks were cooked perfectly and the side dishes were great. Be sure to order dessert...fun and good. The noise lever is very high in the main dining room, but there is a nice patio room in the back were you can hear each other talk. The restaurant is a great addition to Whittier
