The food was delicious and the service was attentive..
Ugly burger and the BLT were good but service was horrible. Constantly had to ask for basic service needs.
There were 4 of us on a business lunch so it was very distracting having to find someone to take our order, refill ice tea etc.
Our server, Fidel, was extremely courteous and attentive. Food was yummy--as always. Thank you.
Eggs Benedict was delicious- hollandaise was amazing and eggs cooked perfectly (I like em a little well done). Husband got Croque Madame and that was insane!! Yummy truffle on it! Bloody Mary’s were also incredible
Avoid the raucous dining room if you want to have a conversation at your table. When we asked for a quiet table, I wish they had put us in the bar area.
Great place to meet friends or for a date. Service was very good.
We went here to get dinner before catching Seinfeld show in New York. Food was very pricey and nothing to write home about. We were under the impression that Chef Geoffrey Zakarian owns this place; but may be we were mistaken . Waiters were not sure who we were referring to and the menu appeared quite ordinary. Little bit disappointing.
Never disappoints! We've had birthdays and just a great place for good food done well with great service and an accommodating kitchen and staff.
I've been a big fan of The National and used to go frequently for both expense-account and personal meals and drinks. Lately I've seen a noticeable decline in the quality of the food and the service . The servers are brusque and rude. At no point does anyone check in to make sure all is well. My chicken and fish have been overcooked (and inedible) on more than one occasion, but I've never bothered to comment because I'd need to seek someone out to proactively share this feedback; it's never solicited and no one seems particularly interested. I plan to do some research into restaurant alternatives.
Good experience for our family meal with sixteen year old triplets prior to a Broadway show as we stayed in a neighboring hotel.
Lovely service and nice ambience in a restaurant where you will spend $28 for a VERY oversalted burger and fries. I won't be back and expected more from a Zakarian joint.
Our annual New Years morning brunch at The National with mimosas and bellinis was delightful. Ambience perfect. Staff is classy. Food is excellent. We had a romantic table for two and thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience. Great way to start 2019.
Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience. I specifically chose this restaurant on New Year’s Eve to have an early dinner starting at 5pm, because I to catch a train nearby. Many restaurants were not open till 5:30 and that was too late for me
I arrived at 5pm and was told despite my reservation, they were not serving till 5:30 and I was free to sit (and spend money) at the bar. I said to the hostess that I picked this place because of the early seating - her response was “it’s just a few minutes”. 30 minutes is not a “few”! I asked why I was able to book at 5pm if they were not open, she shrugged and said “I don’t know.l”.
My dining companion and I thought of somewhere else to eat so I could meet my train — I asked if the fee for cancelling for NYE would still apply since they weren’t actually honoring my 5pm reservation— yep! We would be charged $25 each!!!!
So, with no choice but to sit down, we were seated in the bar area with food, but no wine menus. Two young women were seated next to us with emptied wine glasses and repeatedly complained about no waiter being around to ask for a check. I eventually suggested to them they just ask the bartender for a check.
I somewhat aggressively flagged a nearly waiter and demanded he give me a wine menu and hang out till I ordered. We then had to wait till after 5:30 — when the kitchen opened — to actually see someone who wanted to take our food order.
Why on earth did the manager lie to us after the hostess said they just weren’t open? We should have been able to leave without penalty or been given an apology and an offer of.a drink while we waited for the kitchen to open—with an assurance we would be served in time for my train.
This is not a cheap restaurant and the service should be up to par. A real disappointment.
The service and attention to detail was outstanding. Great food.
Nice meal in a convenient location. Great cocktails. Try the NTL Mule. We shared a few appetizers for a light meal. Nothing amazing but everything was good. Kids loved the Milk Chocolate Mousse.
Great brunch, first class service. We’d certainly go there again.
Very mediocre. Guessing the celebrity owner is the reason for the number of good reviews. Service was especially bad. Host was the best person on staff and deserves a shout out. Mac n cheese was velvetta gross. Even the $22 charcuterie had bad package salami not very high quality stuff. Mashed potatoes with the chicken tasted liked reconstituted cafeteria stuff. Had to prompt waiter for everything we needed. Giving it a mediocre review and not a hater review because for the location the prices weren’t outrageous. But would never go back or recommend.
Everything we ordered was amazing and the ambiance of the restaurant is wonderful. We definitely plant o go back.
The staff was incredibly friendly and nice and the food was delicious.
Ambiente acolhedor, serviço atencioso, comida excelente, adorei. Quero voltar.
We had a reservation for three for dinner. We were seated at a table under the stairs when there were plenty of regular tables available. Service was poor. Food was overpriced and average. I would not go back.
We went here for Christmas Brunch. I liked the look and feel of the place, and the location is great. Unfortunately, my food was cold--I ordered the mushroom omelet with carmelized onions. The others in our party thought the food was just ok. The avocado toast my son ordered was presented well, but was ordinary. My wife ordered the eggs benedict, which was fine. There was a reason this place was still available for Christmas brunch when so many other venues were fully booked. I also feel that the food was overpriced and the service was, well, mediocre.
Not impressed at all. The staff was so rude and slow. We had to ask other servers for help and our check because our waiter was no where to be found after he took our order. No drink refills. Server picked up our money before we put down tip to tell us what suggested tip was and waited for us to hand it to him. Rude establishment overall. Will never be back.
burrata appetizer with eggplant was way too salty. Bronzino fresh but not so imaginative cuisine. Ambiance and decor above average
The food was really good but not much of it. Avocado toast $18 for one piece of toast. Drinks were on the small size as well. Good service.
The food was good but the menu was limited; limited wine list and the service was OK. Went with some friends after having wine at Morrell's wine bar and viewing the tree. Not very festive and not very special.
Restaurant was in dire need of cleaning, walls behind our booth had mysterious particles on them, seat was torn, etc. $17 for a greyhound? Even by NY standards that’s a rip off. Service was very slow. Won’t be back.
Tuna tartar and red wine brased short rib are wonderful!!
We order our food and never saw our server again until the bill came. Worse service
Service is quickly becoming the weak link at The National. The food continues to be reliable.
Food quality is excellent. Largest bacon strips I've ever seen! Staff very friendly. I'll be back more and more.
Food is outstanding. Nice wine list too. The only thing is, people talk really loud in here.
Btw, do i get points for dining here? I don’t see an email regarding the points i earned like i get from dining at other restaurants.
I must say the ugly burgers a must do I have it every time I go to the city.
We picked this restaurant because it received 4.4 stars. We arrived a little early for our reservation and were seated at the appointed time. We were given water and then waited almost 45 minutes before we were able to order. I had to ask the host to find our waiter before we saw him. We placed all of our orders. We specifically asked if onions could be left out of the pasta. We were told yes, but the pasta arrived FILLED with onions. My pork chop was flattened to about 1/4 inch thick and VERY dry. We had to ask for bread. We had to repeatedly ask other servers and the host where our waiter was. 3 hours later, and with the HIGHEST bill of any restaurant we had been to, we were able to leave. It was a terrible experience and not at all on par with a usual NYC service standard.
Thank you National team.
Very disappointing. The service was not great and the server seemed bothered from the start. We had to ask for bread twice. When I asked him which dish I should have between the short ribs and pork chop, he said pork chop. It was bland. Both others at my table ordered branzino. There was a considerable difference in fish portion among the 2. To me, this was s glorified diner.
Terrible service, I mean terrible. My table was completely ignored for 15 minutes before I even got a glass of water.
Busy loud lunchtime. Good food uneven service
Its hard to find good breakfast places in midtown that take reservations. This is in a great location, and had really excellent food. My only reason for the less than perfect review is that the service was awful. My guest and I waited a looooong time for a server, and the turnaround after ordering was sloooooooow. But I'd probably still good back if I had a breakfast meeting in that neighborhood.
I’ve given the National a shot too many times. The food is good but the service is too slow. We eu
