I read the reviews so decided to try the restaurant with a friend. The noise level was staggering. I could not hear my companion across the table. I ordered the soup it was very good, but the portion was huge and I was afraid it would ruin my appetite. I had the iron roasted chicken the leg and thigh were done perfectly the chicken breast was very dry and chewy. The potatoes were fine, nothing special.
I heard the breakfast is good.
As usual the service and food were excellent. The noise level was low because there were so few diners, which surprised us on a Saturday night. In the past, the restaurant was crowded when we attended at different times of the year. We hope the sparse crowd does not signal problems for this wonderful restaurant.
One of the busiest breakfast spots in town - LOUD but otherwise fine.
Disappointed. This used to be good. The food was decent but the ambiance was lacking as was the service from the host (waitstaff was good). We got a terrible noisy table, asked to move and got attitude from the host indicating other booths had reservations. I too had a reservation. The next 3 parties to arrive also did not like the table they were given and all decided to wait for another. Take a hint guys, if people keep turning down your squeezed together round tables or high tops you should solve that. Get more comfortable seating and don’t make it so cramped. I used to like this place as a mellow upscale spot in my neighborhood but I’ll look to go elsewhere next time.
Great place for a good breakfast. Nice interior and fresh food.
Loved the whole experience dining at the National!
Great place for breakfast meeting. Quick service and good food.
Delicious food, attentive staff, relaxed and unpretentious.
We will return !
Server didn’t know about the items on the menu.
Perfectly Wonderful Experience! Would make a return visit for sure. The ambiance, quiet easy and comfortable. Delicious food and excellent service.
It was very good. One of the staff members was very rude. But other than that it was a very enjoyable experience.
Always good food, good service, can have a conversation that is private, nice buzz but not noisy - hard to find in NYC.
The Satur Farms salad was OK. Dressing was too strong. Chicken on top was delicious. Ordered an iced tea which was a little weird - definitely flavored in some way and I had no idea. Prices are somewhat expensive for lunch. Probably not worth a repeat visit.
We enjoyed a delicious meal and the service was excellent.
While a lovely setting, everything after we entered went down hill. The service was sub par. Our waiter seemed like he could be bothered to help us. The food was bland...the side salad on the eggs Benedict had brown edges and looked as if it had just been poured out of a dole precut salad bag. I would not recommend this place to eat...not to mention the ear splitting noise level.
The venue and drinks were great as was the service. We thoroughly enjoyed appetizers and dessert with our drinks. The meals were okay. I'd go for a burger or entree, but they didn't hit the mark on the steaks.
Dinner with family in midtown.
The food is very expensive and the service is terrible. You have to beg for a server to come over to your table.
I had walked past The National several times (visiting the city as we do every summer). My husband and I were going to entertain an old friend and I chose to have brunch here. We all loved it. It happened to be a quiet Saturday so we wouldn't have needed our reservation but I would certainly recommend making one - not hard to see how the place could fill up. We would go back.
Food was good but pricey. Staff mixed up the leftover boxes of two of my friends, resulting in a loss for both as they had to discard the food. What a waste!
This restaurant is always excellent..branzino is the best. Nice decor and service too.
Great food, awesome cocktails, wonderful service, & surprise, surprise: Restaurant Week delicious bargain! Girls night out couldn’t have been better!
I had the lamb shank. It was tiny! Tasteless and on a hard bed of beans The food took too long to be served and was cold. I had a cocktail and the glass was chipped. I returned it and requested a replacement. They charged me for the replacement drink. I will not go here again
Worked well for a small group business lunch
Nice variety of choice on the menu. Food well presented, very reasonably house wine, and friendly service but not the high class cuisine it portrays itself as. Average quality steak, from our experience in NY! Would have been sent back in the UK or NL. Would still go back but not choose steak!
Average food with pretty terrible service. Waiter was extremely inattentive and awkward (when he was actually around). I wouldn’t go back.
Loved it! Great restaurant with great food and service. Loved the interior and atmosphere
The food was mostly bland.
Great lunch spot for business meetings. Mango chicken salad is my go-to. Most excellent.
As always the right choice for a business lunch. Thank you!
Poor greeting, poor service, tasteless food. Very disappointing
Interesting American food with international influences. Nice wine by the class. Big portions so easy to share and taste. My only complaint is that their were strawberries in the tomato burrato salad and they were not disclosed on the menu- as somebody who is sleepovers to strawberries that is an issue. Staff was lovely and helpful.
Every time we wanted service, we literally had to get up and ask a waiter to come to the table. Nothing was done without us making an active request. The food quality was average for the category of restaurant; nothing stood out as particularly special. It was the feeling of being treated as a nuisance rather than a guest that made it entirely unworthy of the price.
We had breakfast. Great place to have a business breakfast. Food was good. Not great. But good and consistent. Ambiance was great. Service was fair, they took forever and did not really wait on us. We had to chase the waiter down every time we needed something
Good food. Wine list is small and a bit overpriced. Red wine also isn’t kept in climate controlled environment so it had to be chilled down to a palatable temp.
Food was outstanding. While it is a beautiful restaurant it is very noisy.
We had eaten here several years ago and had found it so-so, but recently moved to the area and thought it might be worth another try. The service, overall, was abysmal and the wine service was nonexistent. I stood at the receptionist desk for fully two minutes before my presence was acknowledged, as the hostess was too busy dealing with her computer to even bother to ask me to please wait a minute. The food was okay, at best, but definitely not a great value. And we had the misfortune to have been seated next to two woman who shouted nonsense to one another the entire time they were there, barely stopping to eat. Definitely not going back for a third time.
I regularly go to this restaurant because the food is good, but it is quite loud. I'm always happy when I leave because I feel as though I can breathe again. It's not the kind of place where you can linger: they rush your food out and rush the service. Also, it is VERY loud.
Not impressed..food was eh and it took forever to get..even manager was apologetic. Very disappointing and unimpressed! I do not recommend!
The food arrives quickly, so it's a great place to have a business meal with limited time to spare.
