The closest restaurant to the Capitol building,United States Senate and Union Station, The Monocle is not only known as a Washington institution, but also for its fine American cuisine. You can always count on being served great crab-cakes, grilled fresh fish, steaks and chops, while enjoying the powerful political scenery. The private room upstairs is a Washington classic for private parties and political fundraisers.
A pleasant and unique restaurant with superb cuisine.
The food was good, business casual dress. I had trouble finding parking.
Went for restaurant week and was amazed to experience great food and service at this historical restaurant. The waiters were experienced, careful and attentive to our every request without being overbearing. I thoroughly enjoyed my time here and would return and recommend.
The place in DC for perfectly prepared steak done the old school way. Not overly fancy, just done right and exceedingly well. The rest of the menu is also beautifully prepared. Great atmosphere and the wait staff couldn’t be more professional and helpful. It’s a favorite!
Was very enjoyable. The service was one of the best I have ever had at any restaurant. I'm in love with this service.
Hostess and waiter provided excellent service. The liver and onions was absolutely delicious
We went for dinner during restaurant week and the food was wonderful. The atmosphere is quaint and we enjoyed cocktails. Wait staff was terrific. I went to this restaurant once before for lunch and the experience was similar.
I go on restaurant week and enjoy the visit each time.
The experience was going well until another table found a creature crawling in the restaurant. That extremely dampened the mood.
We went because we like historic restaurants. Glad we did it. Like Ebbitt’s and Capital Grill better
Excellent meal. Great service. Best Caesar salad ever!
We were in town with friends for a basketball game- this restaurant was recommended by our hotel and walking distance. The ambiance was nice and the service was excellent. We had a very enjoyable meal, the only complaint was that my husbands steak, which was the filet mignon special , was rather fatty. If we stay in the area again, I would definitely go back. Everything else was delicious.
Table 32 with the presidential chairs is fabulous!
Great service and food was excellent. The noise level was moderate and no trouble having conversation even though the restaurant was pretty full. Always a good experience at the Monocle!
Great place for food and watching politicians. Staff is excellent, wine is fantastics. Go you'll really enjoy it.
In the world of “small plates” and trendy hipster millennial restaurants it’s nice to have a classic experience.
We loved Marino!
I love to take out of town friends to this Capitol Hill institution.
I’m such a fan of this place. The service, proximity to Union Station, Capitol Hill and the consistency of the quality of the delicious American fare. But the bread! Cures all ills. Try the lamb, ribeye, sautéed spinach, cheesecake, crepe brûlée. Nothing is bad. Quick and delicious. Everyone who serves you, serves you with talent and warmth.
My daughters birthday
The Monocle is always a fun experience.
Perfect pretheater for the Folger. Terrific bar , service & an excellent menu.
Reliably excellent service and excellent menu choices for a business meal. This place is a Capitol Hill institution that transcends generations.
Warm atmosphere in a very personal restaurant where you can feel a welcoming vibe. Attentantive service and not insistent. Tasty food with some original proposals. Good value for money. Something trully American in Washington. Very lively bar.......
I have yet to be disappointed in this restaurant. Not only is the food outstanding but the location can’t be beat, especially if you find yourself on the Senate side. Lunch or even an after work cocktail here is a pleasure. On this occasion I was having lunch and wanted something light. I chose the grilled shrimp and bean appetizer. It was wonderful and at $9.75, a tremendous value. I highly recommend it.
The Monocle always delivers! The staff is awesome and the bar is a great place for people watching!
Food was amazing. We had a great experience!
The interiors are a bit tired wine list is also somewhat limited. Steak was delicious & portions huge. Waiter was a bit standoffish until he realized we actually knew something about wine, then was more attentive. Walnut cake was delicious & a nice surprise. Would go back again.
Consistently good and attentive service. A must if in DC.
A bit pricey for what was served, but the experience, location and personalized service makes this a spot that everyone visiting the Hill should experience — there’s only one Monocle!
Wonderful service! We were seated right away and service couldn’t have been better. Wine choices were plentiful and food was excellent. Desserts were delicious as well. The only negative would be that the butter that was served with the yummy complimentary bread was cold making it hard to spread. A small thing that many restaurants forget about! Overall though, a great evening out!
The server continued to walk past our table time and time again and we felt very rushed. We would have had dessert but the constant watching over our shoulders was too much. I had been here before and the service was similar but the food was better. If it were not so convenient to the Union Station, I wouldn't go back but I probably will.
Had dinner on a Wednesday. Not too crowded and had a nice meal. Service was great! We've been there before, but a long time ago. Glad to see the restaurant hasn't slipped - and will be back, sooner than "several years"
i WENT THERE BECAUSE IT WAS WALKING DISTANCE TO MY HOTEL; HAD NO IDEA IT WAS SO FREQUENTED BY MEMBERS OF CONGRESS.
Wonderful, quiant atmosphere in this old fashioned DC restaurant and bar. Excellent service too!
Convienient location for a good lunch. Great service.
Wonderful comfortable dining! Great linguine with seafood, oysters, Irish coffee - the way dining out should be, terrific waiters who really care about your happiness
The Monocle is expensive and somewhat noisy, but the food was Fantastic and worth a special occation. We had great service and would happily go back.
Amazing food, great service and awesome ambience..thanks.
