Wonderful experience. Loved the roasted oysters and steaks rival the best in town. Superior and friendly service, lots of history. A definite must for anyone visiting the Nation's Capital!

One of our favorite DC restaurants with a history and special but comfortable ambience. The food never disappoints.

I really enjoyed the ambiance. My husband and I went to the restaurant with another couple and we had a great time. I enjoyed the food with the exception of my steak. I ordered it medium and it was closer to well done. I'm sure if I go another time, the steak will be delish!

We tried out the Monocle on Capitol Hill for restaurant week because Zagat had rated it as one of the top six iconic restaurants in DC. It is very unique in it's color, design and focus and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Being so close to the Capitol it must be a very crazy place at lunch time. It was quite busy on the night we were there (Wednesday). All tables were taken, with a party going on in the bar, which probably made it noisier than usual. All food was served piping hot! The filet mignon was good but not memorable; the shrimp w/linguine about the same. The green pea soup (not as flavorful as it could have been); lettuce wedge w/bacon, excellent; creme brulee, excellent; cheesecake, just okay.

The food was a pleasant surprise. Not overly elaborate but tasty and well presented.

Went on a Monday night. The place was pretty empty. The ambience really isn't there - almost felt like being in a big hotel meeting room. The food was very good, portions on the smaller side, but the menu is extremely limited and they offered no specials. I heard they are a big lunch place for the politicians so maybe that is their focus??

Enjoyed this Capital Hill spot for a business lunch; not sure I'd frequent otherwise but it was a good experience. I would definitely go again if in the area and looking for a lunch time meeting spot.

This a great place on Capitol Hill. The Maitre de and servers are friendly and the atmosphere is fun if you are a political junkie. The food is unpretentious and reasonably priced. Went there the night before the inauguration and it was a quiet oasis.

Historic restaurant with many photos of legislators
part of the decor. Great location close to Union
Station on Capital Hill. Old fashioned service with
waiters in gold vests and interesting insider D.C.
stories. Food, OK. Worth the visit for the experience.

Washington's hidden treasure! Love Nick and the gang at The Monocle. They mad our Inaugural guests from out of town feel like a million bucks. Great place for happy hours and networking. Great for a romantic date. Great for special occasions or groups. Definitely will come back again. I've never had one issue with food or service quality. I love The Monocle!

What can we say? The Monocle is the epitome of a great restaurant. The service was outstanding. The wait staff was impeccable and the food was delicious. During our Inauguration weekend, we could not have selected a better restaurant steeped in such history and elegance.

Ambiance, night time parking all super. Food was great but not "wow". Greatest dissapointment was the decline in service when various congressmen arrived...they got most if the attention/service. Critical mistake...my tip went south because of that. Had to find my own coat - again, service shifted. As a paying customer it was assumed my dollars were less - big miscalculation. Won't return even though up to that point I was thrilled.

Unique location between Union Station and the Capitol building. I was last here 50 years ago, and the memories were re-awakened. Delicious all-American food your parents would love in comfortable surroundings. Friendly, polite service.

We enjoyed the atmosphere very much. It was very quiet for ease of conversation, which we really appreciated. Our waiter was very courteous and never rushed us to order - he allowed us the time to enjoy our evening with family. Our food was average but good. Maybe another menu item would have been preferred. I would definitely return to this restaurant.

The service here at this classic DC establishment is as outstanding as always. While the food focuses on traditional steakhouse dishes, there are some delightful surprises, such as the wild morel mushrooms as a side. We had a large group, and everyone enjoyed their meal.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at the historic Monocle restaurant. The service was unmatched, the food was delicious and the champagne was well chilled. There was even convenient parking after 6:30. I highly recommend it... and you never know who you'll see. What a special and romantic treat it was for us!

The Monocle is especially good when the Congress is not in session--there are tables sufficient for one's needs at almost any time. Service is professional, wine was good, cooking excellent, and the walls have pictures of every important political figure in the last 60 years or more.

seems like this place is a favorite for many Senator's as it is very near the Senate office buildings, and the wall is full of pictures of current and past Senators along with other people of note. Service was good, but the food is just "okay".

Food was very good but service was OK. I took my SO for lunch on her B-day, the waiter rudely rushed us & didn't even bother to tell us about the specials for the day. We had to ask him for them after we heard that they had them from the waiter on the table next to us. We'd go back but I hope that we get another waiter next time.

OMG. Waiter that was wholly clueless. We had to explain what bourbon was to him. A drunk sorority girl passed out and hit the floor and the patrons including ourselves had to render first aid. And the head honcho didn't see fit to call 911 or a cab but rather tried to make the girl (whom may have had a seizure) Sprite with bitters. The place should be condemmed and padlocked.

I went to the Monocle during restaurant week. It had an elegant atmosphere. The food was very good. The service was excellent. The waiter was non-intrusive, allowing my guest and I to catchup on our respective lives before dinner. That was nice. It is a restaurant worth going back to.
