MONARCH IS OUT OF BUSINESS. OPEN TABLE IS DOING A LOUSY JOB. I SHOWED UP FOR MY RESERVATIONS WITH MY FAMILY AND WAS TOLD THE RESTAURANT CLOSED WEEKS EARLIER.
Very fresh and well-prepared small plates with a perfect combination of taste and texture. Each plate is served at just the right pacing so there is time between each to relax and talk. Each is presented and explained and helps you appreciate the detail that goes into each one.
The Monarch exceeded our expectations and was a special dining experience. We loved that the food was locally sourced. Each dish was beautiful and delicious. For a tasting menu experience the portions were generous. My friend and I easily shared a four course meal and added a dessert. The bartender concocted "mocktails" for us that were the best we have had so far during our pregnancies.
The food is amazing! Everything we tried was better than the last thing. I honestly can’t say if I had a favorite because I loved it all!
Five stars for everything!! Food was excellent- very imaginative and delicious. We all took the 4 course tasting and it was plenty. Will be back to taste more!
Truly amazing food!!! One of the best dinners we have ever had. A unique experience. Even things such as bread and butter are mind blowing delicious.
Unbelievable service and food!
Great service and the food was delicious. But portions were minuscule, yet pricey. Most egregious was the wine pricing/selection...completely out of whack. We had the lowest price red they had available and it was terrific but it cost $78 if I recall exactly. Judging by the ample available seating, I'm afraid they won't make it unless they return to the menu/pricing they offered the last time we were there a few months ago.

Tasting menu model is an improvement over previous family style, allows more sampling. All the dishes were inventive and well-considered/ Definitely best suited to special occasion and making an evening of it.
Anniversary. Loved our waitress Danielle she’s incredible. The head chef came out with every dish and we felt so taken care of. The food is exquisite but the portions are small so be prepared. Thanks Monarch!

Have been more knowledgeable or more “on it”. The food was fantastic and intentional with the abalone and the cappallini as favorites. That said, the short ribs are always melt in your mouth great too. We are fans.

My husband and I shared 4 courses. The restaurant added a bread course. While the portions were small we felt “just right” with the amounts we ate. Each bite was very flavorful so we took our time savoring them.
My husband and I went to the Monarch restaurant for the first time. We had a great an experience. Their food is unique and delicious, include the fact that it is so hard to impressed my husband regarding a food. We ordered a course of 4 things per person, and it was enough to feel your tummy. Every dish was done beautifully. We left satisfied.
We will come back for sure.
First visit to this Monarch was sensational. Chef left and now it has it's problems.

Dinner tasting menu was fantastic. The chefs, bartenders, wait staff all know what they are doing.
We loved the food, but the cocktail was not very good and the cappuccino was so bitter it left a bad taste in our mouths. The food was amazing albeit tiny in portions.
Excellent food. The sous chef served and explained all the dishes. Highly recommended.

We went to monarch for an anniversary dinner! Food was incredible. One of the best meals we have ever had. Drinks, service, ambiance all terrific!

As always great food. New tasting menu and wine pairings was a terrific way to go. We picked four different dishes each. Each item was a special treat for eyes and mouth. Each paired wine was a delight and a surprise (who would think of gruner veitliner and salad?
Important: they still have the 72 hour short ribs. Best in the world.
I had been to the Monarch when it first opened, and it was outstanding. At that time, I had decided it was the best restaurant in SB. Dear friends came to town and so I decided to take them there. I did not know the menu had changed to Prix Fix options. Even with the change-still outstanding, and a very fair value for exceptional food and service. My husband does not care for prix fix-but he very much enjoyed everything he selected as well.

Very contrived menu which required diners to select 4. 6 or 8 courses each. Had to ask for an appetizer menu. We were so disappointed in the lack of flexibility of dining options we left . Total cost of a couple of shared appetizers and 6 glasses of house wine was over $280. Went next door to Lucky’s, had a lovely dinner and wine for $140. Will never go back to Monarch.
It was our fourth visit since SB Restsurant Week 2019 and the first time with your new menu so we were a bit hesitant. The amuse bouche(?) immediately convinced us we’d made the right decision. Everything from that point on was exquisite! Thank you very much.
The Monarch really stood out for excellent service. The food was good, especially the braised rib and the duck confit purse.
Excellent meal. We both enjoyed the tasting menu of four courses. The wagu beef was so tender and everything else delicious. It got too noisy for our taste after 8:15 PM but glad to see so many patrons in our neighborhood.
Food was wonderful, but portions are small. We left hungry. You need to order a lot and fill up, but price not worth it. Really like the old menu better before, and those portions were generous for the value.
I love, love, love the fact that they use not only local food but also local artisans as well.
Service makes all the difference, it will even excuse poor food, which was not needed. "Nina"? was so gracious giving no attitude when I called to adjust our time. I did not expect to be accommodated. She met our arrival with her vivacious personality, and i learned later made notes to the server re: us so that the continuity of good care and service was continued. Waitress (forgot name but beautiful artwork on her arm) was full of friendlyness, patience, and knew her menu!!! Wine guy equally attentive and friendly, not snobbish and the food was once again outstanding, even better than the last outstanding time we dined there how is that possbile? Bravo and thank you. BTW-Thought I lost my wallet. They called to say did not find. I found and did think about it again, however your staff did. They called again to say sorry and they will continue to keep name and look out. WOWZA!
Amazing! Starting with Nina at the front desk to Danielle our server to the GM Drew, everyone was so wonderful. And the food!!! It was outstanding. This is my new favorite SB restaurant.

Awesome experience . Service was top notch and the interior was understated but classy. Location is great as well. The food was fantastic. Fresh and rustic California classic combinations from seafood to filet. Everything was excellent.
We arrived for Easter brunch at 11:30. Menu was standard lunch fare. Food was mediocre. Burnt bun on the tuna sandwich, burnt potato chips, salty vegetables. Service was slow and the bill was over $160. Won’t be returning or recommending. So disappointed.
It was a nice place the service was amazing, the food was very good. It was very convenient having it in the same location as our hotel room.
The service was among the best I've had in any Santa Barbara venue. From the reception hostesses to the bartender's perfection of our drinks to the superbly attentive and knowledgeable waitress we had, there was little that could even have been imagined as better service. Some of the dishes were top-notch, world-class as I have come to expect from the Frankaland enterprises: the halibut crudo had an astounding variety of small flavors and nuances to it (dried fruits, nasturtium leaves, crisp flower petals) that all worked harmoniously with the light orange glaze - I would come back just for that dish alone. A spectacular desert of caramel custard and absinthe was equally brilliant in its blend of flavors and served as a beautiful, creamy send-off into the night. The rest of the fare was quality, good fare: abalone (cooked just right and not at all chewey!), pappardelle with mushrooms, and a fresh vegetable dish for the vegan among us. As we had just spent the week wine-tasting in Paso Robles, we should have brought our own and paid corkage fees since we picked blindly from the pricey selections and did not pick well for ourselves (and had three cases in the trunk of our car we could have dipped in to!). But the experience was well-worthwhile and we will be back for the Sushi Adventure!
