Fantastic experience. Every dish was so unique, interesting, beautiful and delicious. The wait staff was extremely helpful. We loved every minute and every bite!
Great food, great service (and no tipping!). Tables are close together, hence only 4 stars for ambiance. The sea scallops with cauliflower was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten anywhere!
Restaurant experience was overall excellent. Food quality, appearance and portion was high; service was OK; cocktails a bit on the small side (approx 8 oz per serving). Server did not elaborate the "specials" of the day and was not too informative or made suggestions. Noise level was low and therefore, ambiance real comfortable.
I highly recommend this eatery to anyone seeking good food, good drinks and a comfortable setting.
Delicious creative flavorful food beautifully presented. Excellent cocktails and wines. Beer on tap was very limited but decent bottles.
The service is impeccable and attentive. A very swanky room upscale but causal.
Loved everything about this place from the time we were seated. Higher end dining, but hey, you're in NYC. The wait staff was incredible. Never had an empty glass. Food was delicious and the atmosphere was awesome.
we have been here 2 times now. amazing service and amazing food. it is small plates and everything is delicious. our favorites were the carrot rouillette and the lobster. the service is really excellent and they do not allow you to leave a tip so the servers are really there to actually serve you without expecting anything in return the sommelier came over and helped us pick out our wine which was nice. the waiter was very knowledgable about the menu. the cocktails were awesome as well. the gin drink with honey was excellent.
Danny Meyer's Modern is a standout, including his signature service and ambiance. The food was exceptional, but portions are small, and it isn't cheap. I particularly like that the service is included; makes you feel more like a guest than a customer. Take a peek into the kitchen if you get the chance.
In an area of Manhattan that does not have many great restaurants this Danny Meyer restaurant stands out above all the rest. Great service, food, ambiance. The acoustics are perfect even with the restaurant full and bustling. Extremely polite wait staff and its nice not to have to think about tipping since its included here and in all Danny Meyer restaurants.
Overall very nice.
Excellent experience ! Great service and delicious food
Excellent attentive service
Always great. Food was refined rustic this time. So review reflects a bit of disappointment not what I had in multiple visits prior. My dish was deconstruction of chicken noodle soup crispy chicken breast, Mirepoix , beautiful rolled noodle . Was cooked and presented beautifully but I was kicking my self for not realizing what it was from the description . Service was charming and local elegant. A pleasure as always.
Food is creative and solid - very nice presentation - limited options but full range of tastes can still be met - outstanding and attentive, but not obtrusive, service
Great food and service. Noisy enough to be lively, but not so loud that you can't carry on a conversation.
Such a lovely place and amazing food. Too fancy for the average museum guest to wander in, but absolutely worth getting a little dressed up for.
Everything was excellent! Their service, knowledge about wine and food! Thank you for making our night special.
Definitely worth a visit!!! Service was exceptional. Food awesome. Wine menu a bit overpriced. Liked the fact that gratuity included in pricing. Definitely have desert!!
Food is amazing, restaurant is vibrant and energizing at all times of day, service is friendly and knowledgeable. Our waiter hit the perfect note of describing high cuisine with no condescension, since he obviously had no way of knowing how much we knew about food techniques.
Cocktails are incredible!
Fantastic hospitality. Very good food and ambiance.
Very innovative, unique, and great tasting cuisine. Love the food! They also feature great tasting and unique cocktails. It’s a bit pricy, but the restaurant has a “no tip” policy, so price value is fine. I highly recommend The Bar at the Modern.
Delicious but wish the portions were just a little bit larger!! Excellent service. The butter and bread were heavenly. Apps and entrees tasty!!
The service was great. The food, however, was very greasy. I had the sea scallops that were heavily burdened by a mayonnaise and were both oily and too rich; my wife had the butternut squash (which was more pesto shells with butternut squash than vice versa), which was also heavily oiled, as was the pesto sauce. Our server was fantastic, but could not make up for the kitchens missteps.
I would give it another try as I do with all well regarded restaurants where we were disappointed.
We had a very nice experience at the The Modern. We ate at the bar and the service, food and drinks were all top shelf.
Outstanding service, delicious food, though smaller portions, great ambiance.
Once again I choose The Modern for my birthday. This time, at my son’s urging, we booked the Bar Room.
We missed our waitress from last year Paula, in the Dining Room, but our waiters and servers could not have been better at suggestions and recommendations. Kudos to them for knowing all the answers to our dietary questions (Vegan diner) without running back and forth to the kitchen.
Every dish was a delight to feast on, both with our eyes and taste buds. From the bright green and delicious broccoli soup, to the beautiful shreds of the Brussel sprout salad. The seared scallops with the almonds, cauliflower and brown butter sauce was so multilayered with flavors I was in heaven from the first bite to the last!
The Happy Birthday mini cupcake with ice cream and the specialty teas should have been the icing on the evening, but the sweet hostess Emily, saw us looking into the beautiful kitchen and invited us in for a tour. Now THAT was a delightful way to end The Modern experience.
My friend and I celebrated our 30th friendship anniversary at The Bar Room. The service was wonderful and the staff was knowledgeable about the food and wine. Very professional and courteous. It was nice to convenient that the gratuity was already added on. We had a lovely time.
Good wine! Good atmosphere!
Every dishes are excellent !
We've dined at The Bar Room at the Modern several times over the years since it opened,
and it has become one of our favorite NYC restaurants. The ambience, service, food and relative value haveall been terrific. This was our first visit since Gabriel Kreuther had left, however, and so wewere most pleased to find that all was well. The menu is obviously less Alsatian-inflected,
but still imaginative and outstanding in quality and execution based on our dinner of the other night. The wine list is spectacular, but like all serious NYC restaurants these days, ridiculously
overpriced when you consider the markups, particularly the glass prices. There was, however, one gem at less than $50 a bottle - a Pinot D'Auxerrois which was delicious and complemented our Alsatian tart flambe, chicken and scallops quite well indeed.
Food was delicious and nice atmosphere. Great for a date!
I love the Bar Room. It is my go to place for lunch and drinks.
Chiccsnd fun. A bit noisy. Food terrific
I always make a point to dine here when in NYC...food and service are reliably good. Smaller portions, but I’m ok with that. Flavors are good. Wine list is expensive and no California Chardonnay on the menu.
Upon arrival, asked if we could sit in main dining room instead of bar room and it was no problem. Four course tasting, food was fabulous. Our main server was fantastic, class act. Wine pairings -- some great, some just ok. Cocktail at the bar afterward, A+. Offer to set us up for a nightcap at exclusive place downtown, gratefully accepted. Amazing, memorable night.
The bar space at the Modern would be a premier fine-dining site almost anywhere else in the US. The service is outstanding across the board. The menu is brief but the Charred Avocado Salad, the Baby Romaine Salad w/Quinoa, and the Scallop entree are standouts. The Almond Tart dessert was kind of ordinary.
It was amazing. I would love to recommend this place to my friends
We really enjoyed our diner. While the restaurant was busy - the service was personable and efficient. The sommelier was very helpful with the wine list and the food choices are varied and not the normal restaurant fare. We will definitely return to this restaurant.
Consistently one of the best places for a quality dining experiences in NYC. Informed and accessible staff plus inspired dishes make this a rare combination of intelligence and pleasure all in one comfortable room.
