Do NOT eat here! No one greeted us at the reception, we had to find someone to get us seated for our reservation. We waited 20 minutes for someone to ask for our drinks and appetizer. Everything we ordered they were out of. Finally settled on a beer and soda water. Beer served warm, appetizer seemed like it was microwaved definitely fresh, bread was stale. Horrible service and food. We will never eat here again. It’s unfortunate because it’s a beautiful setting and has so much potential, it felt like all care and motivation has been lost by the employees and possibly the owner.

We came in to celebrate my son‘s 27th birthday. We had looked at their menu online and found exactly what wanted to eat so it would make it easier for us. There were eight of us there total. We had picked out some really cool cocktails that they had on their menu. And we got there they said they didn’t have their liquor license until April 1 because they forgot to pay some fees? That was a bummer. No liquor, beer or wine. Over 4%. They were also out of a lot of food items. My husband was excited to try their lamb and they were out of that. They are also out of another dish that my son was going to get and they were also out of rice. The food was pretty good. The shrimp and grits was definitely not some thing I wouldn’t get again. It was dry and had no sort of sauce on it. Our waiter was friendly. The place ambience is fantastic. I feel like there’s some management issues there? I had heard it was under new management so I was dying to try it again but it’s still not a place I would go back to anytime soon anyway. It’s a shame because the place is really cool and they have an amazing menu. They just need to make sure they actually have the ingredients for the food on their menu.

We were disappointed . The house is interesting but was not well heated and it was a chilly evening. The food, while very tasty, was served lukewarm. They were out of rice, lobster and lamb and this was on a Wednesday night.

Our party of 8 (four adults and four children) was quickly seated in the very lovely restored farmhouse. We were waited upon by Ashli who was very attentive. The dinner menu had a nice range of beef, pork, lamb, chicken and seafood choices. We shared a variety of appetizers that were excellent. The St. Patrick's day special of Corned Beef, Potatoes and Cabbage was excellent. The Beef Medallions were outstanding. The children's menu offered a very nice variety of dishes that were perfect for the children. The desserts were wonderful. Highly recommend the chocolate torte, the fig & carrot spiced cake and the milkbread donuts with ice cream. My only gentle suggested area to improve upon is for each of the courses to come out together. There were delays in receiving all of the appetizers and all of the main course entrees. Highly recommend and would dine here again.

My son and I made reservations early on the day we dined at the Mockingbird. When we arrived we were seated right away, and our server was quick to provide menus and get our drinks. I ordered the beef medallion and the meat was tender enough to cut with my fork. It was my first visit, but will not be the last.

No wine, $50 steak was tough and bland, and the pecan chicken was more like cafeteria chicken fried steak. It’s a cute place and had a nice vibe. Everything was very slow and they seem to need new management.

My wife had a ribeye that was on special for $50 and it was totally unimpressive. I had salmon and green beans. The green beans were cold, not warm, cold. The salmon was warm and unimpressive also. The service was okay. The atmosphere, nothing special. Bottom line, we both had water, no appetizers and spent $100 on a completely unimpressive meal. I don’t mind paying for a good meal but this definitely wasn’t it. At the restaurant, I don’t complain, I just don’t return. I also don’t usually do reviews but felt compelled to save others from this experience.

I’m sorry you had a poor experience- it’s always best in those situations to ask for a manager to address these issues immediately. As the owner, I would have welcomed the opportunity to address this with my kitchen staff. None of those issues are acceptable. We are going through some staff transitions in the kitchen so training and teaching is key here. I also would have discounted your meal heavily had I been aware. I hope you give us a try another time!

It was obvious they had just lost their full liquor license (I assume serving underage kids because they checked both of our IDs and we are obviously in our 30’s- haven’t been carded in years) so the main reason we came - their incredible sounding cocktail menu- was out the door right away. I wish this had been told to us beforehand because I would have booked elsewhere and came back. The food was so-so, I’d say less appetizing than I could cook at home. I am the type of person who looks down on restaurants that have salt and pepper on the table- it says to me that they know their chef can’t season properly- but when we got our food I quickly asked my partner to grab the salt off a table nearby. It was necessary. Lamb was a bit over done, but the main issue was that it was mostly bone. I don’t understand why I paid over $30 for 2oz of dry lamb. My boyfriend’s steak medallions were so-so. They looked cooked properly, but when I asked for a bite I immediately said “oh my gosh. How is it this DRY?” Turns out they high seared it to death on both sides as their method of leaving the middle pink, so it looked medium rare but was basically two thin we’ll done steaks sandwiching a mid-rare steak. We had planned on getting dessert but didn’t end up ordering after our entrees came out so poorly. The staff is super friendly, but they cant overcome a bad kitchen, almost fully eliminated bar, and our server was also the hostess and had to answer the phones all night. We just moved here from Cincinnati and this was our first restaurant in Spring Hill. In general, I’d say this place could have been having a bad day. But for the money, I wouldn’t recommend anyone try it out

The Mockingbird RestaurantResponded on March 12, 2022

I’m so sorry- I’m the owner & was the hostess/bartender that night- 3 staff called out. We have NEVER served underage guests. We card everyone here. There was a bond mistake on the part of TABC that caused our renewal to be rejected, so we had to reapply for a new license. We still hold a beer license & have pre-batched cocktails, beers, & ciders. It will be back April 1st. The food issues were not brought to my attention so I could address them with my staff immed. & discount your bill.

A bit disappointing, came in at 530pm for dinner. My wife ordered the Salomon medium and came well and dry, i had liver and onions and it was cut thin, dry and very tough, our friends , one had the liver and only had a couple of bites and one had Spicy shrimp and was delicious.... 25% success rate is pretty poor. The waiter was neglectful and we had to flail our arms to get attention. They must have been short staffed but still I wouldn't spend that kind of money there again. The bar was nice and the fried green tomatoes appetizer was delicious. Good luck !!

The space had great character and the food was poor. Everyone's food was cold. Two meals were almost raw when well done was ordered. One person in our party became ill about an hour after our meal. The wait staff appeared rude and rushed and never came to check on our table to refill beverages or see if we needed anything.

Background music was at a good volume. Food courses were services quickly. All of the courses tasted great. Dessert was fabulous. Would recommend them based on our experience. Well, instead of our usual Nashville dinner outing for Valentine’s Day, we decided to stay local. Went to Mockingbird. Dinner for two included appetizer, salad, main course and dessert. Appetizer: Piece of thin sliced bread with 2 shrimps. This was for both of us. Salad; looked like weeds. Main: Waiter: “beef or chicken” Me: “what cut of beef?” Waiter: “ I don’t know, but the chicken is a hen thing.” He checked with mgr and it was a petite filet. We had that. I also learned a new way to say au gratin. I guess it’s pronounced ‘ee-you greeten.’ He didn’t know the bad winter-garden vegetable medley. (What the heck is a winter garden vegetable medley anyway? Dessert: 1 piece of chocolate pie for BOTH of us. I kid you not when I say that the edge crust ring was NOT 3” across. It was a brownie size. FOR 2. After all that, the waiter comes and lets us know that because this was a “Ticket” meal (again ???) there’s an additional $26 surcharge above the set cost. 😡 Well that surcharge eventually was explained to me by the mgr that it was a set ‘tip.’ It may be tough for us to go back.

There is no music just the sound of the one other couple in the restaurant talking and the sound of clanging dishes. We’ve eaten before and it wasn’t great but we were giving it a second chance. We ended up leaving after drinks because the environment was so weird. Maybe not weird for a $10 burger but for sure weird for a $100+ date night. Server was super nice but the atmosphere is not great and kind of cringy.

Visited as a family (a birthday celebration) and everyone enjoyed the atmosphere and the server. We have been here twice and both times were a memorable experience. We all ordered different meals and we were all pleased. We had grilled Brussel Sprouts as an appetizer that were delicious. Vegetables that come with the meal were good as well as the main meal. Wait staff was very good. We all split one dessert - yummy. One area for improvement would be to offer more side dishes that come with the meal. More side dish variety would improve the overall menu. We'll return again for a another occasion.

This was the absolute worst dining experience I have ever had. I can’t believe they are still in business. Salmon wasn’t cooked and you could tell they just warmed it up in the microwave. My husbands food was cold. To charge an average of 20 dollars per meal for awful food and service is a joke. We would have had a better meal at a fast food joint. Don’t waste your time or money. Such a disappointment.

She was very courteous, friendly and helpful to us in explaining the historical details of The Mockingbird as she took our order. This restaurant has so much potential! A great venue with excellent ambiance and unique appointments. Service is a little slow and lacks a little polish, but they are friendly and eager to please. The menu is eclectic, with something for everyone. Sometimes they run short of items, so go early. Would like to see them bring back the catfish and add a couple more steak, chicken, and pasta options. Appetizers were tasty, fried pickles and collard dip were unique. Some interesting options to choose from. The bar area is small, but very attractive with a beautiful window and unique staircase. A little attention to detail, training, and minor menu adjustments would help this restaurant fulfill its potential. They are on the right track!

We love the Mockingbird but, last time on our Anniversary, we were seated next to a group of loud girlfriends. The background music was also loud. My wife had to ask the host to turn down the music so we could have a conversation. The room was dimly lit and appeared to be a nice location for a quiet dinner. Perhaps, the host should have seated the noisy girlfriends closer to the bar. This has been our only negative experience at the Mockingbird.

We looked forward to returning here after a visit 3 years ago. Birthday celebration & not great table or room. Confusion between waiter/waitress for our table to start. The young guy needs some training to serve in a restaurant with moderate prices. Lousy service from him. Food was outstanding - pork chops, lamp chops, burger, truffle fries & desserts. Loud and not the ambiance I remember from before. Will think twice before returning. $238 too much for 4 1/2 people.

I was so looking forward to our dinner at the Mockingbird Saturday night, but unfortunately it was not the experience we had hoped. We have been there in the past for dinner and the meal was excellent, but this was our first time back since Covid and since the new owners took over. Our first indication should have been the hostess who greeted us as we walked in was wearing jeans and a tacky novelty sweatshirt. The waiter was a young man who has been there a long time. First time we had him, we chalked his awkwardness up to being new, but that was over 3 years ago and his serving skills have not improved . We had to ask for bread. He proceeded to bring us a big basket with 2 cold knot rolls . Then we had to ask for butter, and he brought 2 individually wrapped frozen pads of butter. The timing was off. We got our salads which were ok, but we had taken maybe 4 bites of salad when our entrees arrived. My husband’s chicken was good but nothing exceptional. I ordered the lamb chops with grilled balsamic grapes and crispy roasted Brussels sprouts. The lamb was done ok but bland, the grapes were maybe sautéed but certainly not grilled and they were still on the vine, so I had to pick them off with my fingers to be able to eat them, and the sprouts were so hard I couldn’t get a fork in them and chewing them was even harder. As we were waiting we realized it was Sat. night and there were only 3 other tables of customers. We had gone there expecting a nice evening of relaxed dining but we were seated, served and out the door in 45 minutes. It is such a shame. This beautiful old house has tons of charm and so much potential to be a standout fine dining restaurant, but sadly, if it continues down the current road of overpriced underwhelming food and marginal wait staff, I fear it will not survive past the end of the year. In my opinion, the potential is there, and it is obvious the new owner / management is to blame for what I fear will be the Mockingbird’s demise.

Our drinks took 20 minutes to arrive. Apparently the bartender did not know how to make a drink on their menu. Ordered an appetizer and was not told until we asked that it was not available. The shrimp and grits had very little shrimp. We were given two free drinks and a free appetizer however for a first time guest this was not a good experience.
