Old Town Scottsdale’s heart is beating to a Latin drum, now that The Mission has arrived and brightened the restaurant scene. Renowned Zinc Bistro Chef Matt Carter is now cooking up modern Latin cuisine blending influences from Spain, Mexico, Central America and South America. Home made Tortillas, Arepas, and Salsas are made fresh daily and all meats are prepared on a Plancha or a grill using pecan and mesquite wood that instills a rich flavor.

We were first introduced to The Mission during a food tour, Arizona Food Tours. We tasted their grilled corn appetizer and pulled pork taco. I even tried their red sangria. Wow, they were excellent, and decided that we needed to come back for dinner. We did order the same, along with the tableside guacamole. The pulled pork tacos is out of this world! It is a dish for 2 people. The pork itself is served "unpulled" and you get this big pork roast in a little cast iron pan. The soft tortillas come on a salt brick piping hot. My family and I really enjoyed this restaurant and would highly recommend it to anyone for their food, service and ambiance.

It was so dark inside we had to use the flashlight on our phone to see. It is charming inside if you could just see it. We sat so close to the next table we ended up learning their life history but we had to scream at each other because of the noise level. The food is outstanding and we love that area of old Scottsdale. The menu is creative and the service was good.

The Mission is a great spot for dining with friends or loved ones. Darker atmosphere, so good for dates; outstanding food and drinks; and excellent service. Have tried several dishes there, and have never been disappointed. A+

The hostess greeted us and she was very nice Being from Chicago, we have a lot of wonderful restaurants. The Mission has always been one of our favorite spots. This trip was very disappointing . The water was very busy and took a while to greet us. I asked another waiter to take our drink order. The waiter apologized for the delay and bought us our appetizer. I ordered the Florida grouper. It had way to much spice and the brussel sprouts overwhelmed the fish. The couscous was flavorless and just sat on the plate. My daughter ordered the steak tacos. She loved them, but not really a dinner size portion.

Great food, made daily from fresh ingredients (try the guacamole!). We got the lamb tacos and mahi mahi, as well as 3 margaritas. Excellent quality and amazing service. The ambiance is magnificent, especially if you want to be able to hear your tablemates, and the food made everyone happy.

The Mission is one of my favorite restaurants in Scottsdale. I have been there many times and the food and service are always top notch. I love the atmosphere - dimly lit and cozy inside and very bright outside on the front or back patio. It is suitable for all occasions. The tacos are awesome and the Pumpkin Bread Pudding is a must.

Jordan and Daniel were very kind servers. The problem was the food.

If you order the 3-taco plate, they're the size of those white powdered miniature donuts! The carnitas (shredded pork) was also very, very tough. They were not satisfying, and for the price, I felt ripped off, and hungry afterwards.

My friend's chicken wasn't what he expected it to be either

My other friend received something the didn't order; as if Daniel heard her wrong. However, she opted not to send it back because what she received, would have been her 2nd choice anyway.

They don't have good beer; no. They only have one IPA and it just wouldn't do. You'd think they'd have Lagunitas (because it's a Mexican food restaurant), but they didn't, and the remaining beer selection was lackluster.

I wouldn't come back.

The server only stopped by AFTER we got our food or after a bus boy had come by. The food was absolutely amazing and everything was good. The prices were a bit more than I was comfortable paying but it’s a fair expense for the food and the ambiance.

Food and service were outstanding. Latin American dishes were exceptional. We ate outside on patio with one large mister which made the tables and chairs wet. Mister needs a lower setting or be turned off. Food quality and uniqueness make it a fine dining experience.

The food is very good and the ambiance outside especially in the back is great. The ambiance inside is terrible. It is very dark and we felt as if we were sitting on our neighbors laps. Very tight and uncomfortably close. Really a shame as the food is great!

The place is very loud and dark but the food is great. Perfect although you can't see it. Bring a light so you can read the menu and get the guacamole made at your table!Wait staff was so nice and had a wonderful birthday dinner.

My co-worker from out of state wanted some good Arizona tacos and so we hit up The Mission after some client meetings for lunch. A few things we noticed right away, the tables were super close to each other. They sat us down with two groups on both sides and we had to pay attention to what we said and our volume so we weren’t overheard. Also it was on the darker side for us with not much light. We ordered 5 different taco plates to share. We then waited almost an hour for our food. It wasn’t packed but normal crowds for a Thursday lunch. We almost got up and left a few times. Once the food finally came up we had to rush through them. They were delicious but after an hour wait we kind of had a bad taste in our mouth. The chips and salsa and guacamole were also amazing. I should know since we went through two bowls of chips as we waited for the tacos. 3 stars because of the wait but the tacos were great.

Had been to the mission several times when visiting Scottsdale and this time was horrible. Food was not done, service was herendously bad, it was our anniversary and the knew it per our reservation. they placed us in the very back next to a crying baby. We were visiting from Houston and made reservations just for our anniversary. Wife ordered same drink she always gets there and they said NO. Yes the same one we get every time we’ve been. Instead of making an effort or Another suggestion it was just a NO. Waiter was under trained and overwhelmed. The restaurant was so dark we (and everyone sitting around us) had to use the flashlight off of their phone. And to top it off sitting in the back with two dudes almost sitting in our lap because tables were so close. C mon mission, you’re better than this. I can’t say we will never return but we will not for a while. The price points and area competition demands that every restaurant be on their game at all times. We go out to have an experience and this time the mission fell flat. We didn’t bring it the attention of the manager for the same reason most people don’t; we didn’t want to cause a scene, we didn’t want the people sitting in our lap next to us to know our business and we wanted nothing free but we did decide to utilize this opportunity to make sure the mission knew that each and every customer each and every time they visit matters. Remember, every time we go we are expected to pay so every time we go we expect to get exactly what we pay for. It works both ways. This time it didn’t.

We love this place, been here many times! Booked an early Mother's Day seat for 1:30pm and according to the website, the FULL menu would be available along with the brunch special. Upon arriving, NOPE - a little bit of a let down because we had our hearts set on some coca-cola lime pork from the dinner menu, but nonetheless, the food was fantastic as usual. See my attached image for proof that we were surprised when we got there and it wasn't happening...

Our server was quite un-impressive as well, which is really the only reason why I am making this review this time. Took our drink order & disappeared for a very long time. No mention of appetizers or anything. Never asked how the food was after the drop, in fact we had to flag him down a few times. Please keep in mind, we would see him roaming the floor aimlessly quite frequently and the restaurant had maybe 25-30 people in it, including outdoor seating. It wasn't crowded by any means!
