The Mission – Old Town Scottsdale Ratings and Reviews
Food is always good at the Mission. We were seated and told we would have to wait for menus?? Obviously very short staffed today. Drinks took a long time to come..when questioned the server said they were likely still at the bar?? Hardly saw our server ... hopefully just a glitch in this usually great place
Booked for special Valentine's Meal while in Scottsdale on the basis of prior reviews. We were seated at a 2 top - very small table, sandwiched in shoulder-to-shoulder with two other tables. Restaurant was so dark you could not even see your food, and certainly not the menu. Server was very nice, but overwhelmed. Price very high for the quality of the food. I hate to leave bad reviews, but we will not return.
This was the worst—by far—meal we’ve ever had. Your price fixe Valentines menu was a horrible disappointment. Frankly, we were blindsided by it—because we don’t drink alcohol—we had to overpay (understatement) for really bad food. Wow!
Went there for Valentines Day dinner. Not aware of special day only dinner menu. WAY overpriced. Literal 50% markup from same menu items from normal dinner menu. The seating in the restaurant is too close table to table and very loud. The food and normal menu is good, but I won’t go back.
We always celebrate my birthday at The Mission and we are always impressed! The food is phenomenal, the atmosphere engaging and the service impeccable. We were seated in the front patio as the sun was going down. The employee making table side guacamole noticed that sun was in my eyes. Without a request from us he took it upon himself to remedy the situation. I was very touched by his concern. It made the rest of the evening, our food and our enjoyment of the occasion even better! The Mission will always be one of my very favorite restaurants!
Food was outstanding, especially table-side guacamole. Enjoyed the pork shoulder for 2 as well. Computer system for restaurant went down causing significant delay in receiving out bill but they in-turn comped our dinner...exceeding expectation. The Mission is always a treat and they handled things well when things went awry. Strong recommend!
Eating out should not only serve the palette, but a visual experience as well. The Missiion still insists on low lighting to the point of needing flashlights to see the menu and see the food. It diminishes not only the setting, but the culinary experience as well, when you have to wonder "what an I eating".
We arrived for 830 appointment however were not seated till 9 05 pm. Food was very good. Service started out very good, however around 10 when restaurant is supposed to close, our waiter disappeared for a long time given they were trying to wind everything at pick up tables etc from patio. We had to ask someone to get him for us so we can pay the check and skipped the desert given were waiting there almost 20 min before he came back.
Wonderful food, service and atmosphere, dimly lit with a fun vibe. My only complaint is that our entree came out when we were in the middle of our cocktail and appetizer. From sit down to end of meal was about 25 minutes. I prefer a slower paced meal to relax and enjoy. This felt rushed. Don't let the server pressure you into ordering appetizer and entree at the same time unless you only want to spend 30 mins at this fun spot.
First time in Scottsdale. We were in town for the Phoenix Open and decided to drop in to see what all the hype was about, 40+ minute wait sent us packing for another restaurant and headed to Open Table to secure a reservation for the next evening. Had to take a 5:45 pm slot, as everything was booked up after 6:00 pm. Was it worth it? YES!
Loved, loved, loved the table side Guac. It was perfect. We ordered the pork tacos to share (10 corn tortillas). The tacos along with the chips, Guac and salsa left us pretty full. And yet, we had to order the Pumpkin Bread Pudding based on all the reviews along with the French Press coffee. The coffee was perfection - the bread pudding was good but not the best we've ever had. In fairness, we are sort of bread pudding snobs, so the bar is very high.
Overall, it was a great experience and we will definitely be back the next time we visit.
The food was great and the service was very good — a solicitous and knowledgeable waiter offset to some extent by a desultory and disengaged waitress making the table side guacamole. We wouldn’t return because the atmosphere, trying to be cool, is so dark you can’t see a thing without using your phone’s flashlight. Very aggravating, and too bad, because the food was delicious.
