The Mission – Old Town Scottsdale Ratings and Reviews
Two couples dined at this mex restaurant. Excellent food. Tuesday pm was full. Tables are very close. Excellent food. Recommend tacos. But ladies had salmon and salad which were excellent. Recommend the avocado app. Server was good, attentive despite very busy. Service was good. Recommend.
Loved the food and margaritas. Made a reservation and was a little disappointed at the
small dark table they gave us at the back of the restaurant, we asked to move to a nice table by the fire place but she refused saying "it was only for 4 persons, not 2" so we sat at the bar and the bartender was exceptional so we ended up having a really good time. I noticed they always
try to give you the "worst" seat when you are only two persons!! Loved this place though.
We’ve been going to the Mission for about 10 years and probably have eaten 50+ Times. On this particular occasion we had my elderly mother with us. She’s not very mobile and doesn’t see well in dark spaces. Nor does a friend of mine that was with us either. Despite the fact that there were people sitting and being served on the front patio. Including others seated after us on the largely empty patio. The hostess refused to allow us to sit there.
Service was fine as was the food but two Members of our party could not see any of the food nor read the menu on their own. I’m very disappointed by the lack of hospitality and flexibility given the circumstances and will think twice before we’re going back are taking clients there.
Absolutely delicious. Had the pork belly pibil and a side of brussel sprouts. The pork belly was cooked to perfection. Service was excellent and back outdoor patio was beautiful and very comfortable. Would definitley recommend to anyone looking for a great dining experience in Old Town.
Visited The Mission restaurant while visiting Scottsdale from New York. Hotel we were staying at recommended The Mission very highly. Our reservation was for 8 p.m. & we arrived a bit early so we waited a bit by the entrance & did some people watching! Ambiance of restaurant was dark...actually... very dark! I had to use light from my phone to read the menu. I noticed someone at table next to ours doing the same. Service was attentive. We ordered the guacamole which is prepared table side. It was authentic & excellent. For dinner, we both ordered the chicken tacos. Ordered 2 sides... one was the special corn & other was the grits. The corn side had some topping which was so spicy I could not eat it. Our server was kind enough to bring me another corn side without the spicy topping! The grits were fine. Tacos were tasty... served on very small tortillas.
I did not realize that the side dishes were extra...!! I thought it came with the entree! Had I realized this, I would not have ordered it, especially since it was way too spicy for us!
Place was noisy and tables were so close together that I felt as though you could not hold a private conversation! Prices were high for entrees.
I really didnt get what all the hoopla about this place is. Definitely will not return on my next visit to Scottsdale.
We loved our girlfriend get-together at The Mission last Saturday, 1/20. I wish I could remember our server's name, a tall man around 7:30pm serving our group of ladies. He was absolutely phenomenal. He provided candid recommendations, prompt service, and was fun and enjoyable. The food was outstanding, the cocktails even better (hint: try the primarita with a grand marnier topper - rec from waiter). The ambiance works for multiple occassions, whether romantic, friendly, business, etc. We will return if ever back in the area!
Our server was clearly irritated that we did not get several appetizers. He was constantly checking in on the table next to us, but never on us. When ordering entrees our food came out in a few minutes, taking away from the laid back experience everyone else was having.
The lighting was very dark, which only bothered us in that the tables to either side of us were constantly shining their phone flashlights to read menus. When you have such a high volume of older guests, maybe turn the lights up so they can read the menu...
The Mission restaurant is in a historic building. I loved the ambience though it did take a few minutes to adjust to the dim lighting. The margaritas were great and we loved the tableside guacamole. There were many creative entree options including two good vegetarian ones. This restaurant is a bit pricey but extremely popular so be sure to make reservations in advance.
The restaurant has a wonderfully vibrant atmosphere, lots of buzz. The lighting is dim which all adds to the chic feel. The staff are friendly and efficient.
Everything's great except the most important part, the food, nothing's wrong with it, it was just a let down. Example, a lot of theatre in making fresh guacamole at the table, only to find the "hot and spicy" version requested was somewhat tasteless.
Also be careful they take your name when they welcome you at the front desk, we were later accused of being a no show, simply because the guy made no note of our name when we advised him of our reservation.
We had a business friend dinner here and it was so loud where we sat that some people in our group of 5 could not hear each other. Also, what is the deal with the darkness inside the restaurant? It will still be dark and great ambience if the lights come up a notch or two. It seems dumb that waiters have to hand out little flashlights!! I also like to see the food I am eating. Food presentation is not easily seen in this restaurant! Given how important this is to the dining experience, it makes me wonder what are they hiding?!!
Food was delicious, server was great with suggestions. We would have liked to sit outside, but since the outside tables were apparently reserved, we sat inside. The manager was great and came to explain the situation. Inside was very dark, hard to see the delicious food we were eating. Many tables had flashlights on to read the menus. Decor was nice. Cocktails looked great.
I had the Shrimp Anticuchos as a appetizer. It was average. I then had Chorizo Porchetta. It was dry and had huge pieces of fat in it. The white bean puree was cold and wasn't more than a tablespoon. Very disappointing. When I made reservation online, I mentioned 3 of our party of 8 were celebrating birthdays. Waiter never acknowledged this. Will not go back.
We visited this restaurant last year on vacation and returned because the food was so great. The food was excellent again. Our one complaint is a question of why are the lights kept so low that you need to use phones to read the menu? My wife had a hard time even seeing her food on her plate. Everything about the place is great except the ambiance is ruined by the poor lighting.
This was one of the best meals I've ever had! In the beginning, there was a small hiccup with our server. We sat down at 7:30 and realized at 8:00 a server hadn't acknowledged us. I told the hostess and within 5 minutes we had a server at our table. The restaurant was busy so we understood. The food was absolutely incredible. They also gave my boyfriend a free dessert for his birthday! I wrote it on our reservation but didn't expect anything to come of it. Great experience - we will definitely be back.
Dimly lit dining area forced us to request patio seating! We couldn’t read the menu without our phone light!
Table made quacamole was awesome!
Pulled pork tacos excellent but skimpy condiments
Margaritas great but not the price$14
Our waiter Lance very attentive and the rest of the staff quickly took care of our needs
Celebrated our anniversary and our sons birthday. Service was very sketchy - guacamole to be made at our table was made 5 tables away so no experience with that. We asked that the grilled Mexican corn be taken off the cob when asked and what we got was regular corn with cheese. No grill marks on corn whatsoever. Our special dessert was delivered without any silverware and took us over 5 min to find someone to ask for help. Half way through our dessert someone brought us sparkler that they said should have been brought out when served.
Was not impressed for the money we paid.
