The food and service were both exceptional. But the lighting made eating our dinner a real challenge. The plating was beautiful, but even with 4 candles on our table, we couldn't make out what was what. The table next to us fashioned a makeshift lamp out of a cell phone. We would certainly go back, but would do our best to be seated by a window so we can see our food.
The food was fantastic. My third time visiting from out of town. Amber provided fantastic service. We had several questions for her and she thoughtfully answered or sought answers.
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here. They made the specialty guacamole at our table. Delicious and very entertaining. The Mexican corn is great!
Very nice! We will come back for sure. Nice patio good service
Delicious dinner @ The Mission yesterday, we enjoyed the following ;
- Tableside Guacamole chunky haas avocado, jalapeño red onion, fresh garlic, sea salt, lime, tomatoes, EVO, chipotle puree, cilantro, cotija & roasted pepitas
- Street corn
- FLORIDA GROUPER
Paella reduction, banana crab croquette, brussels sprouts, crispy quinoa & pickled gueros
- CHORIZO PORCHETTA
Pork shoulder, house made chorizo, rosemary, cotija, white bean puree & sweet garlic crema
We highly recommend The Mission 😋
The guacamole is the best ever!!
Amazing experience with great food! Guacamole was Best I have ever had
Great spot our waitress was excellent the food top notch
Food was okay but the restaurant is so very dark that you can’t see your food—we literally had to use a flashlight to eat. The waiters agreed that the restaurant was way too dark, but the expkanation was that the owner insists it be that way. Makes for a very uncomfortable experience. One server even spilled water on my son because he couldn’t see to refill a glass.
OMG! To-Die-For!! Love, love, love the appetizer-sized plate of tacos, especially the Brussels Sprouts (who would have thought!); though the skirt steak was pretty awesome too. Pepper appetizer was fun, until my friend got t.h.e. h.o.t. o.n e.!! But it was fun. Guacamole made table side with preferences, oh, be still my heart . . . and we had that AFTER our tacos and peppers! The server was ever so gracious to us older ladies. My friend who is a couple of hours from Scottsdale cannot wait to bring her husband who loves spicey hot Mexican food. Great evening!!
The food menu is eclectic? Not sure how to judge this place properly. The food is very expensive and it's ok. They smoke the meats which again is ok, not great. The dark ambiance is ridiculous. Everyone was using their phones to read the menu. Made no sense to me and I don't think they thought this one through. In a nut shell, I wouldn't my lady back here, I wouldn't have a business meal here, I simply will not be back.
Nice kids serving the food.
Took our little ones here while on vacation. Our waiter was so accommodating and helped suggest some great options for both our toddlers and us. It was a pricier dining experience but well worth it. Food and drinks were amazing and the service was great!
Love the tacos! Great service and a fun place. Our favorite spot to eat in Scottsdale.
Vacationing in Scottsdale. The Mission was highly recommended, and it was outstanding!
Favorite spot in Scottsdale. Great for pre-game meal. Two blocks to Scottsdale Stadium (SF Giants Spring Training site.) Have never had a disappointing dish, and we are very particular (well, my wife is!)
So great! Tacos were amazing, ambiance was so cool and great service.
The service was poor from the beginning. We made reservations on Open Table. The hostess who seated us took to the back patio. We never asked to be seated outside nor did she even ask us if we had a preference. I kept calling out to her that we didn’t want the outside it took a louder voice to even get her attention. I told her we wanted the inside. Her response “did you book on open table”? Yes I replied. Her: Did you use the computer? Yes I did. We were seated at a two person table on the side. Great. But then we met the WAITRESS ATTITUDE. She is a short blonde with s black streak in her hair. I asked for a glass of Chardonnay and a few minutes later an empty wine glass was thrown and yes thrown on the top of the table as she went by.
Umm where is my wine? She only addressed my husband and never ask me how my dinner was or would I like a dessert menu. She was
rude and very disrespectful. We have eaten at the Mission many times before but never again.
Service was great but i was told to pick out a bday dessert for free, then when the bill came they charged me for it! Waiter said he couldn’t take it off because it wasn’t free afterall??????
We had a large party (12) and we were asked if we wanted separate bills. We said yes but none of them were correct. My meal was on one friends ticket, my son’s milk was on another friend’s, and my “free” bday dessert was on a separate bill with 2 beers (I only order one beer). Hmmm. And it took over30 minutes to get our bills. Just rediculous. None of us will be back.
We were seated very close to the bar and it was so dark that we had to use flashlights to see the menu and couldn't see the food without a flashlight. It was way too noisy. We asked for a table in the back where it was light and less noisy but they couldn't accommodate that. We used to like this restaurant but after this experience we won't return.
Outstanding food. Great service. Unique entrees. Just bring a flashlight.
The Mission was recommended by several people but I was disappointed and most likely will not go back. The restaurant was so dark we could not see our food and I ended up chewing fatty pieces of pork shoulder that ruined the overall meal. A little fat comes with the territory, but in better lighting I would typically cut it away and not have to mouth it...
The drinks were great and so was the bread pudding.
We had a blast our server Tony was awesome! The Brussel sprout tacos are not to be missed!
This is a fantastic restaurant. One of the places to hit when in Old Town.
Just as good the second time around repeat trip to this restaurant did not disaaapint food is fabulous back again Next year
Good Food, great service-way too dark! Dim is good, but this was way beyond that
High quality SW/Mexican fare. Well beyond what you usually see on the menu. Table side guacamole is excellent. Flavors are intense, and portions are plenty. Noise level is as high as light level is low. Really low. Most tables used cell phones or table candles to try to illuminate menu. Just a matter of time before some fool ignites something. Won't be his drink though; they were tasty but devoid of alcohol. Service very efficient and personable.
Loved the food. Needed flashlights to see the menu.
Food and service were awesome. Authentic Mexican food with an extra touch and creative flair.
Very expensive for small portions of food. Plus it was very dark. Had to use a flashlight to see the menu and to see the food.
I come to mission every year and doesn’t disappoint definitely a place I will recommended to others. From the food to drinks this is a 5 Star place.
Great service and great food...never disappointed .
Delicious food. The homemade guacamole, made at the table, was fantastic . Warm and friendly staff. Wonderful choices - hard to pick. Would be great to go with a crowd to taste more of the menu. Our party of two loved the tacos and and a tostada. The Brussels sprout tacos were yummy!
We came on a Saturday night and the place was totally slammed. We had a 7pm reservation in which we didn't get seated until 7:30pm. Bar was too packed even grab drink while we waited. Food quality was good, but not worth the price. For 2 people our bill was $200. At that price, I'd rather have gone to a steakhouse.
Please consider setting the mood lighting a bit brighter. It was so dark inside that our group could barely see the floor much less the menu.
Very small portions
We will not be going back
Food and drinks were amazing. A little disappointed that our request for patio seating on open table doesn’t actually get relayed to the restaurant. You need to call for that. Inside seating is very dark - and loud but is always worth it! Great restaurant !!
Awesome! Atmosphere was electric, food was incredible and drinks were strong. The Brussels sprout tacos were the best but honorable mention to the steak.
We visit this restaurant every time we are visiting Phoenix. We love the modern twist on Mexican cuisine and the atmosphere. It is important to make a reservation at this restaurant as it is quite popular. Our best dining experiences here have been on the back patio. Our second choice would be the front patio. Inside is way too crowded, dark, and noisy.
Tableside guac was excellent. Especially loved the Barbacoa tacos, as well. Dark, date-night lighting sets the tone for a special dining experience.
