We took family that was in from out of town to the Mission which we’ve been to probably around 25 times over the past few years we live in Arcadia our experience started with the hostess being extremely rude and not sitting us because we were eight minutes early when the entire restaurant was empty because our reservations were at 5:45 she made us wait for the 10 minutes until exactly 545 for us to sit down and proceeded to seat many people before us. Next she proceeded to seat us at a table that was entirely too small for seven people then they moved us and wouldn’t give us an extra table to attach so four of us had to cram in onto one side on the booths the entire time we had dinner the other table that we actually needed no one ever sat at next our waiter came and gave our entire table one menu and said that he was looking for more menus for us now you must remember we had seven people in our group having a very expensive dinner together he proceeded to find menus two at a time and brought them over to the table once we have our menus we couldn’t even read them because it’s so dark in the restaurant which I know that is what you all are going for and that’s fine we used our phones but when the waiter came back he was irritated at how bright our table was with us looking at the phones and tried to place our phones on water glasses to light up the table which was not enough light for us after that we proceeded to get our food which was very average when it usually is absolutely delicious so I’m not sure if it was just an off night for you guys or if this is how the restaurant has become I am hoping that it was just an off night
Celebrating Mother’s Day!
Had a great lunch. I had the pazole which was wonderful, guacamole was also very good. It was beautiful day and we sat outside. Very enjoyable.
The food was very good! I had a glass of Black Magic Cabernet it was not good. They need to improve their wine by the glass selection. It was a little too dark in the restaurant.
Food is really good and service was too. We had to ask to move to the patio as the noise level is so loud inside there is no way to have a conversation with anyone you are dining with! Also the lighting is really strange and it is dark to the point of being distracting.
Love this place - service was excellent and manager even came by to check on us~ I would highly recommend - we all enjoyed the unique food blending and margaritas are the best~ Celebrated birthdays and the staff made our guests feel special! Highly recommend this lovely place~
All I can say is WOW! This meal was so amazing my husband and I felt like we were on a food high for the rest of the evening. We had the chorizo porchetta and the mahi tacos. We live in Denver and I can honestly say that this food was enough to make me want to come back to Phoenix just to eat there again. It was that good.
It was too dark in the restaurant. I couldn’t see the food. The number of selections was limited, and the average cost was too high.
This is a great restaurant in Old Town Scottsdale with plenty to do in the area after dinner. The food and staff were excellent.
The service and the food was amazing .... I highly recommend this place to anyone who’s going in the Scottsdale area
The food was outstanding and the guacamole was very very good. Service was excellent but the patio looks like it could use a refresh but quite minor
The service was absolutely terrible. We made a reservation, requested to be outside and our table was inside. After I requested to move outside, we we're placed in a tight corner where We were ignored for 20 minutes. Our drinks came out after our food was half eaten, the kids meals came out ten minutes after the rest of the food. Our silverware wasn't given to us until ten minutes after our food came out, and we received guacamole but no chips to eat it with until after our food came. The server didn't apologize once for all the mishaps. It was a disaster of a Mother's Day meal.
Brunch outside on the back patio is delightful! The food was excellent - we started with table side prepared guacamole and the light, crispy house made chips. And, blood orange margaritas! Yum! For Mothers Day, moms were also treated to a delicious "diamond filtered" tequila to sip. Our table had the shrimp tacos, brussel sprout tacos and a special eggs Benedict which featured homemade English muffins and the house roasted pork. Everything was delicious and we all agreed we'd be going back soon!
Hadn't been to the Mission in awhile since it is always busy but decided to go for Mother's day. Was extremely disappointed in the chicken and waffles dish. There is literally nothing special about it, part of a chicken served with a drizzle of a basic hot sauce and cold waffles. The service was just ok after the table side guacamole (which is delicious) the waitress was never around. Sat with used dishes for quite awhile before they were cleared. It just wasn't worth a $200 brunch. I will go back but only for dinner.
Great service and food was exceptional. Always a must stop for us when visiting Phoenix/Scottsdale.
I recommend this restaurant every time to friends and family if they are visiting the Scottsdale area. Absolutely love your restaurant. Home run every time!
The food was incredible!!! The guacamole was off the charts!! Don’t miss it! Unforgettable!
My wife and I went to the mission on a date during our family vacation. The food was excellent. We also loved the ambience, and service. We shared the pork tacos for two. It easily could’ve served four. We also enjoyed tableside guacamole and delicious drinks. I highly recommend visiting the mission if you are in Scottsdale.
Sat on the patio and it was awesome cool eve. Kate was a great waitress and very knowledgeable on menu with great recommendations. Delicious food and a lovely relaxing dining experience had by all.
Disappointed with a number of things: (1) the restaurant is way too dark....only way to read menu is with a flash light. (2) way to noisy; (3) while food is good the menu tends to lots of unusual foods making it difficult to find an acceptable selection unless you are a seriously adventuresome foodie; (4) overall very very expensive especially for the small portions (figure $80 to $100 per person). The service was moderately good but not overly attentive. The dessert we ordered (churrus with a chocolate milkshake like drink was excellent.
Can always count on the Mission for excellent food, service, and all over dining experience
There is not enough light in the dining area; we had to use our cell phone lite to 1) read the menu; 2) eat our dinner; 3) pay our bill.
The lighting is a bit ridiculous; however, the food was excellent. We'll bring several camping lanterns on our next visit; renting them out to your guests.
Amazing as usual! The table-side creation of guacamole is a favorite and is delicious every time.
Very attentive service, lovely garden atmosphere, outstanding tableside guacamole, really good "upscale" entrees.
Food was excellent. We love dim lights...but this restaurant was too dark! I would still recommend this restaurant
Unless we just experienced an off night for the Mission, this place is extremely overrated. We had a party of 7 and sat in back patio near a big, ugly fan. None of the food was exciting or even presented well except for the guacamole. Staff had no personality except one really friendly guy who went out of his way to describe and explain the different tequilas. We all left disappointed, unfortunately. Maybe expectations were too high after hearing all the hype. Won’t be back.
Excellent food and service. Very noisy and dark., had to use a flashlight to read the menu.
Our server Danny was wonderful and the food was amazing.
Absolutely fantastic experience! Food was amazing, tableside guac is a MUST! GM Greg was such an awesome guy, attention to detail and personal touch was awesome and much appreciated as we were celebrating a 50th birthday. Waiter, Richard, was fantastic as well. We HIGHLY recommend going to The Mission when in Old Town Scottsdale, we will be back for sure.
We really enjoyed our meal. The dining room is really pretty, food and service were both great.
Based on several recommendations, we bestie and I made a brunch reservation for when we flew into Scottsdale. Brunch was delicious..: very favourable. The service and ambience was fantastic. We decided to go back the next day for dinner and had the table side guacamole, short rib tacos and the kale salad. Wow! We then had the pleasure of meeting the GM and he was so gracious. The Mission is a must stop when visiting old town Scottsdale .
Food was outstanding, the drinks were awesome and the service was great!
Great place and excellent service!
First time at the Mission Oldtown Scottsdale. The lighting is definitely dim. So much so, people were using their phones as flashlights just to read the menu. We had seats outside so it wasn't as bad. We were soon greeted by our server and she went over the specialties and took our drink orders. The service throughout the meal was wonderful and very accomodating. I have an actual gluten allergy and she was very knowledgeable regarding modifications and recommendations. The food itself was very tasty but the portions were very small and the entries are not inexpensive. One of our guests ordered the Mahi tacos and was happy with them. Again, the only 'complaint' would be in regards to portion.
Overall, we had a lovely evening and enjoyed ourselves. Would we return? Possibly for a 'special occasion', but for a general dinner out, I doubt it.
Pork is off the charts and service is great could use a little more light in the room but I would eat that pork in the parking lot if that was the choice
Thank you I will be back
The Mission had everything we were looking for for our anniversary. The service was prompt and friendly, the food was fantastic with a terrific Spanish culture twist. The pumpkin bread pudding was the best that I have had!
The Mission was completely unexpected and a do not miss experience. When we walked in for dinner, it was like stepping into an underground nightclub, only everyone was sitting and the music was low enough to carry on a conversation. The food was incredible. We had the table-side Guacamole, the Duck Confit and the Filet. and would absolutely go back for all again. My one complaint was that the service seemed rushed and a bit clunky. I think it was mostly inexperience of our server and not a lack of caring. All in all it was a great experience and I’ve already recommended it several times.
We had never been there before and wanted to check it out. It was very dark and loud inside. Food was great though.
What a fantastic restaurant! The filet was perfect, table-side guacamole was amazing and fresh, wait staff was highly professional and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was fun and sophisticated.
Delicious food. Just a bit too dark in the dining room at 5:15 pm. Diners using cell phone light to read menus. Appreciated manager stopping by to check if everything was ok.
