The Mission – Old Town Scottsdale
Book your next event with us
The restaurant was literally so dark the server had to use a flashlight to show us our food and we could not see what we were eating. The main dishes were very good - appetizers were ok and sangria was very tasteless. Beautiful space though - from what we could see in the dark.
We love this restaurant and it's always been excellent. This time it was a little too dark at first and we were reading the menu with our phones flashlight. It turned out to be a conversation with the people sitting next to us and we all chuckled over it. Soon thereafter the lights were raised slightly. Other times we've eaten at the front or back patio and this was always a delight. Exceptionally courteous wait staff!
My husband and I sat at the bar. The food and ambiance were spot on!
Excellent food. Great options. Get the guacamole. Tacos are fantastic.
Brunch for 10 on the patio. Was perfect!
Great food as always! My husband was home sick with the flu, we asked for the chicken tacos to go and the waitress made it seem like that was a ridiculously hard thing to do. We then asked if we could just order them with our meal and they could provide a box... still a drawn out pause about how they don’t do to go food and it’s complicated, but she would check with the kitchen. As someone who has worked in and family has owned over 5 restaurants, I’ve never heard this. We had to ask her a third time and she was reluctant and finally said “can I at least put the sauce on the side, it’s spicy”. All the drama just to bring home my sick husband some tacos. We will still be back. It’s my favorite restaurant in Scottsdale but hopefully the service will be mor accommodating next time.
Best guac ever and get the pork shoulder!
Food was very good. Tables are on top of each other and noise is LOUD! I say pass.
The lighting was too dark., We could not read the menu without flashlight given to us by the server.
Excellent food and drinks. The ambiance is very dark- too dark. But overall very enjoyable.
Outstanding food! Unique blends of flavors and textures in every dish we ordered. And not just the entrees, but everything we tried was over the top. And our server, Tony, was among the best we have EVER had......and we dine out frequently. Each recommendation he made was off the charts. He's a real treasure to your business. Can't wait to go back......I'm still daydreaming about the food. Dining on the patio is much preferable to inside.....the noise level inside assures no conversation with your companions, unfortunately. We'll be booking a patio table again soon.....and requesting Tony!
Lovely first visit. Will be back.
This is the go to place in Old Town! Every time I visit, it only get's better. The table side guac is killer!
I love the Mission and so do our guests who were here from Florida. But our table was basically in the bar and it was VERY loud and hard to have a conversation. Our waiter (Jordon) was outstanding, the food delicious as always and we’ll be back again and again!
Great food and excellent service!
The staff was very accommodating when we showed up with an extra person and significantly early for our dinner reservation. We were seated within 5 minutes on the patio, which I loved!
We took our friends from out of town because we love it and they loved it as much as us! The drinks, the food, this table made guacamole, the ambience… It’s just wonderful as always!
Amazing tequila list. Our server was excellent. Food was good.
Quality of food was excellent, service was average. I would return again.
Food was good, but the restaurant was very dark. We needed our cell phones to read the menu and to even see our food!
First time dining here. Very limited lunch menu. The corn tortillas were delicious, as were the fish tacos (albeit a small serving), but the chicken torta was basically tasteless. Very dark inside. Difficult to see...Forgot about it once margaritas were served...
Loved this place but it was so dark people had to whip out their phones to read the menu which was pretty distracting. Couldn’t even see the food we were eating. Other than that great experience.
Service was excellent. Ingredients were high quality but I felt preparation missed the mark compared to other restaurants with similar cuisine in the area. Side dishes were priced a little high... For instance there was a $7 upcharge to add 3 flour tortillas to a $32 pork shoulder entree.
Dining room was lovely and warm feeling but very dimly lit.
Upscale authenticity in a lively atmosphere. Corn tortillas were great
The food was flawless and the service impeccable.
Richard took great care of us and made excellent recommendations.
They employed a team approach to the service and everyone was on point to take care of our needs. Great and timely service and not intrusive.
Excellent food and service. Our waiter, Angel, was friendly and super on the ball and made our brunch an awesome experience. The soup is to die for!
Great food- a bit cold with the doors open. Need to take the lights up- everyone had cellphone lights out. Also hard to see the food.
Mission is a great place to take out of town guests. The menu is interesting and lives up to the description of the food! Have loved every dish we have ordered. it's an interesting place historically and well located in downtown Scottsdale,
The food and service was amazing. When you need your flashlight app to see the menu, it's too dark.
Enjoyed our meal, food was wonderful, server was great. Explained the dishes and able to avoid anything too spicy. Only complaint was it’s very dark in there. Everyone had their phones out to use flashlights to read the menu and see the beautifully prepared food. Taking it up one notch would have been better.
It was very good but it was cold sitting out on the patio. It was a busy night so we understood
Met expectations I had promised my guests! Will anxiously await next visit.
Love this restaurant and the food never disappoints us! The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Would recommend this restaurant to everyone
We loved The Mission last year when we were here. We sat in the back patio and enjoyed it immensely. This year we decided we would like to celebrate New Year’s Eve there. Not the same experience.
We had a server who was outstanding. Because of rain that evening we had to be seated inside and we understood that necessity.
It was SO DARK inside the restaurant we had to use our phone’s light to read the menu. Our server was wonderful and tried to be helpful.
The noise level was high. I concede that we are not in that 30 and 40 age group where we like loud music and crowd.
We might suggest that not all customers want dark and noise. Could there be a “happy medium?”
We were sorry to be disappointed with an experience that had been so Positive last January. Perhaps we will try the Kierlands Commons location and hope it is more positive.
We are not complainers and perhaps we are “too old” to appreciate so much darkness and noise. Meanwhile, we wish you the best with your target audience.
The food was great as always but it took awhile before the server came over to greet us. Our experience there is usually on point but not that night. We felt a little neglected
Way too over booked. Crowded and very loud. Expensive
We discovered this place during our food tour. It was impressive enough for is to go back for a full meal. Their food was amazing. Mu favorite one is the shrimp on a skewer as an appetizer. The drink was decent. Sitting on the patio next to fireplace on a cool day is comfy and cozy. Our server was exceptional ( after 5 days in scottsdale, we have not experienced any bad service). The potion is on a small size and on a pricey range but totally WORTH IT!! Highly recommend!
Great food. Great service. A little chilly to have to sit outside with a reservation. Overall good experience. Try the pork chorizo entree.
Greg was great. Explained the menu very well.
Food was very good. Only a couple of comments. Shortly after arriving, the lights were turned SO low, that we (and tables around us) had to use cell phone lights to read the menu. This is not “ambience “.
7.50 for coffee is too high. Food prices comparable to other restaurants.
Lastly, I don’t like that they have to take your credit card away to pay. They need to update and have machines that can be brought to the table.
Overall, we really enjoyed the food, presentation and service and would recommend it. A few easy changes would up the review to excellent.
