The Mission – Old Town Scottsdale Ratings and Reviews
I've dined at the Mission several times now and it never disappoints. The table side made guacamole is delicious and has become our favorite appetizer, I highly recommend it. You can't go wrong with any of the tacos dishes. Try the cucumber and jalapeno margarita! Staff is super friendly and always on point.
My friends and I were there for my birthday celebration. One of my friends loved the salsa so much that she asked if she could purchase it and take it home with her. The four of us shared 4 different street taco selections. My favorite one was the fish tacos, but I also enjoyed the chicken, brussels sprouts and butternut squash ones. My friend had to send her margarita back because it was a little too sweet for her taste, but they fixed it for her and the new one was fine. For my birthday dessert, I was given a complementary bread pudding. It was outstanding! All in all, the food we had was the best I’ve had in a long time. We were seated on the back patio outdoors. The noise level was a little louder than I would like, but it wasn’t unbearable. At the end of the meal, it took forever to get our bill. When the manager saw us and came over to see how we were doing, the waitress then rushed over to bring us our bill. This was the first time that my friends had eaten at this restaurant. They loved the food! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!
This was our second time at The Mission - we loved it, great restaurant with amazing food, exceptional service, vibrant ambience, perfect evening. We loved the Table side guacomole paired with delicious cocktails. The crispy pork & cola lime glaze service on lettuce were delicious. The pork shoulder served with small taco - YUMMY!! Ended the evening with the Pumpkin Bread pudding - speechless!
Visiting Scottsdale with friends and decided to try this restaurant for a second time in seven years. Table side quac was a hit but menu choices are limited. Maybe a good idea to look at the menu before getting there, especially if you are sitting inside as it is very dark. Needed our cell phone light to actually read the menu. Would have preferred a table outside. Food was ok but nothing to write home about. On the pricey side for what you get. Great service though.
Once again the food was delicious and once again, the atmosphere was so dark that we could barely see what we are eating. We chose a table outside hoping it would be lighter, but alas no. Do not understand why a restaurant that serves such delicious food chooses to hide it in nearly totally darkness.
We were visiting from out of state. The food was very good as was my Primarita margarita. I had the green chile duck confit and it was delicious. Unfortunately we sat at the back of the restaurant and it was really dark. It was hard to see what I was eating and other tables were using flashlights to read the menus they were lucky enough to get. When we were seated, we were told they didn’t have anymore menus and we’d have to wait. It’s the first time I’ve ever ordered dinner from a restaurants online menu while seated in the restaurant. Service got to be a little slow when they got busy and we were under a time constraint, we were late due to traffic and we were told (twice) we only had that table until 7:15. All in all the food was good, our server was attentive when he could be, but don’t go there for the atmosphere, or great service.
P.S. Even with the slower service and no menus we were gone by 6:50, not bad for all the forces against us.
Excellent food- mediocre service. We were very impressed with the food quality and drinks. I had the Chorizo steak meal and my wife had some tacos. Exactly what we were looking for. The service was not good and it left us wondering- was it just a bad night where the service staff was distracted with something? Is it a toxic work environment? Personal problems at home or was it just bad service? We don’t know but it was likely one of those. In short- it felt like they asked the right questions but there was a clear sense that it was just a script they were reading.
Overall an outstanding experience. The service was great from the beginning. The hostess found a cord to charge my phone for me while we ate. Victoria took over from there and guided us through the menu and made some excellent recommendations. Definitely get the guacamole (Adam did a great job preparing ours tableside) but watch out for the chips as they are addictive! The Almejas Al Vapor (Peruvian Clam stew) was over the top fantastic. The other recommendation that Victoria made was the Chorizo Porchetta which was again over the top fantastic. We were celebrating our anniversary so the restaurant gave us a Pumpkin bread pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream which nearly put us in a coma! The décor was very interesting and enjoyable. The experience was so great that I asked to speak with the manager. Amanda came over and I delivered the good news that the entire staff had provided above and beyond service and the food was outstanding. She was happy that they had hit the mark! We will definitely dine at the Mission again when we are back in the Phoenix area.
Good restaurant but we were seated and a waiter never came to our table. After 20 minutes we went to the hostess to let her know and she was very apologetic and sent a server right away. The manager took care of our drinks & a free appetizer. We went for an anniversary dinner and booked our reservation far in advance so it was a little disappointing that we were forgotten at first, but the restaurant is definitely a hot spot and very busy! Food was absolutely excellent!
We were visiting from Boston for my sister's Bachelorette and The Mission was a highly recommended dinner spot - so we gave it a try! The service was amazing, cuisine was incredible, margaritas were perfectly poured and the ambiance was so cool (the tableside guac and street corn are a must!) Just the type of authenticity we were looking to experience while visiting Arizona. Thank you for making dinner so special for our group of 10!
The service was great!!
The table side guacamole was the best!!
The Illy coffee was the best.
But, The chicken in the tacos was a few days old and tasteless. The other tacos we had lacked good, tasty ingredients.
For the chefs abilities, the food did not reflect it.
The back patio was uninteresting and there were 2 large fans sitting in the room. The front patio was very inviting but we weren’t seated there.
We had a wonderful lunch with friends ..food fantastic however we were at first seated on the back patio next to a very large fan!! Not good then moved to a table in the very corner of what seemed to be very cigarette smokey area..also not good. We were then seated inside...which was good however very dark inside ..even for lunch...overall great experience we will be back!!
The Mission is a fantastic, happenin' place with great, high quality food offerings. However, it is actually too dark to see the food properly, and the noise discourages conversation. Try to get seated on one of the outside patios (if it's not too hot) for a memorable evening. The prices are high, but, I guess, maybe, they are consistent with other high end Scottsdale places with $14 for regular Margaritas.
Food was exceptional. Simple dishes made with complex flavors. Portions were not oversized. Ambience was romantic. Service was prompt with all hands on deck - hostess, bartender, bussers, server, and manager all pitching in to ensure our experience was a positive one. Loved it!
Absolutley loved this place! Perfect ambiance for a romantic dinner to a gathering with friends. Lively with amazing door from the table side quac to Brussel Sprout tacos! Drinks were delicious and priced just right. I'll definitely be back on my next visit to Scottsdale!
