The Mission – Old Town Scottsdale
Sip a signature margarita with unique flavors such as cucumber jalepeno or aguacate (yes, we said avocado) as you watch your Tableside Guacamole made to your taste from more than a dozen fresh ingredients.
Home made tortillas, and salsas are made fresh daily to accompany an assortment of meats and seafood prepared on a Plancha or a grill using pecan and mesquite wood that instills a rich flavor. And save room for dessert including our pumpkin bread pudding or expresso churros.

Great food and love the ambience.
Pros: Our server was good and attentive and our group was able to fill up on many shared dishes for a reasonable price. Cons: Restaurant was too dark to read the menu and the food was ok but Mexican food was not notable.
Early dining and beat the crowd. Food was very good and chef showed great imagination with the pork & lamb.
Good food, great service. Margaritas were a little too sour. The ambiance was fantastic, but just a bit too dark. Call me crazy, but I’d like to see what’s on the taco I’m eating. Overall, good experience and I would recommend it.
Best food in Scottsdale!
The tacos were phenomenal — we enjoyed three varieties and the flavors were surprising, bold and delicious. The tableside guacamole was a crowd pleaser.
The duck confit tacos were amazing! I would definitely go back.
We loved the food. We got the pork shoulder tacos the guacamole and the street grill corn. The corn was the best I’ve ever had, We live in another state but next time we visit Arizona we will certainly go back
If you are looking for almost empty tiny plates at outrageous prices The Mission is your Go-To spot. If you are after water with nothing in it ( lemons, limes) and a table that's bare unless you are willing to pay for bread or chips The Mission is your Go-To spot. If you are only after an entree because you've already had appetizers elsewhere and want to be treated like you probably can't afford be in the restaurant The Mission is your Go-To spot. Don't drink wine? How dare you enter the door.
This used to be the place where we took out-of-town guests because it was our Go-To Spot. Not any more.
This used to be the place where we dined before most every performance at the Performing Arts Center. Not any more. Can't recommend it, won't be returning. "Rancho Pinot" makes this place look like a great pretender.
TRY THE TACOS!!! It’s an order of 3 but you WILL get full.
Delicious! Highly recommend it
Very nice restaurant, great service and food was so good!
Everything was perfect. A little loud as the indoor seating area is smaller, but that was expected. Food was excellent as was the service.
We love the Mission, frequently go there for great food and drinks. This time they seated us on back patio, next to a huge ugly fan, and not under their patio tent, the birds above were annoying, birds were pooping on us. We ask to move to a open table, but we’re told they were reserved. No one ever sat at any of the open tables. BTW, we had reservations that we made a month out, and still got a poopy table. Stay away from tables outside of the tent.
We stopped in for lunch and were absolutely thrilled with our decision. Our server, Arturo, was excellent and made our visit so fun. He suggested wonderful dishes, and you could see how passionate he was about the food, sharing so many background stories on sauces and dishes. The food was the best we had during our time in Scottsdale and very reasonably priced. The ambiance of the restaurant was great, but the food really stole the show. Would highly recommend to anyone!
Some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. Ambiance and atmosphere were awesome with the exception it is wayyyyy to dark. Can’t order without flashlight and can’t see the food. Other than this super experience
Best guacamole ever! Very good margaritas and fabulous street corn appetizer. The service was good, as well. Worth a visit.
Always great food. Sat on the front patio service was great. Can’t wait to come back.
Have dined here often over the years. Food is consistently excellent. Same for service. We prefer ambiance of Old Town location but we also dine at Kierland location.
The food is good here BUT, and it is a huge BUT, everything else is lacking. Noise is a roar, you need night vision goggles to see or read the menu, and attentiveness of service is sorely lacking. Not much of a date place, more like an enthusiastic electric dance club, which is counter to everything (or anything for that matter) of expectations.
Thanks, but no thanks...
Our experience would have been great if not for the INCREDIBLY rude hostess, who couldn’t be bothered to even take our names or ask if we had reservations, instead just telling us they were booked and walking away. Luckily someone who WASN’T a total jerk with an ego trip helped us, and our server was FANTASTIC. Too bad the entire experience was so badly marred by one person’s rude behavior, which was clearly not representative of the restraint as a whole
We had a great time and always enjoy dinner and drinks
A Scottsdale gem. Great food, better drinks. Wonderful bar and wait staff. Highly recommend the Mission. Just wish we’d found it earlier in our stay.
Our waitress was truly frazzled. She did not utilize her bus boys to help her out. Instead we sat there for a good 15 minutes without drinks. It did not get better once we requested the restaurant week menu. It took her a while to come back with two of them. One of the appetizers was not what we thought it was going to be and she did replace it. The food was great and so was the company.
Fantastic service, knowledgeable staff. The food was excellent.
Was so dark you could not see what color the food was....the food was actually not delectable...porchetta seemed old and flavorless...tacos were thick heavy and oily...very unpleasant.
Dont waste your $$.
This dinner was for my birthday but there was no acknowledgement by the staff/restaurant.
Food was excellent definitely will return loved the tacos great cocktails and wine list
The Corn Crab Shrimp Cakes were so overpowered by finely chopped onion and jalapeños mixed in with the meat that I was unable to enjoy what otherwise would have been awesome dish.
I had a large group and was told we would have to eat outside when I booked my reservation a week earlier. I was assured a mister would be running to cool us off.
Once we were seated the sever turned the mister off because a smaller group who arrived well after us complained of water dripping on them.
I had to complain to get it turned back on.
One of the guests ordered the chipotle salad with shrimp. 2 shrimp (only 2!) were added and the charge was an addition $10.
THE MISSION is one of my all time favorite restaurants in Arizona. I love the ambiance, the food is delicious especially the Guacamole!!!! I shall return!
Food is overrated for the price and it is a little too dark to eat.
Food was great but it was dark so it was a little tough to see the menu. Service was excellent as were the margaritas. Tacos were amazing and the table side guacamole was a perfect starter!
Fantastic food, excellent service, fun environment! Wouldn't hesitate going back or recommending it to a friend. The noise level is a bit high though, so someone that’s hard of hearing or that doesn’t like a noisy environment may want to pass on this restaurant. Definitely a trendy, high energy environment.
From staff, food to ambiance it exceeded our expectations. I knew it was going to be good based on reviews and reservations are always full, but WOW it was so good in every way. Definitely returning.
Great food and wonderful service!
Such an awesome place! The history, atmosphere, FOOD, and service all amazing! My husband had been here previously and we came all the way from OHIO to celebrate his 40th birthday at The Mission. It did not disappoint! Love this place and will come back for sure!!
Wonderful food. Great service.
Poor service. Ok food. Wouldn't go back or recommend
Great mixture of tastes, texture and colour in the foods. We loved the kale salad and the swordfish was outstanding.
