The Mission – Old Town Scottsdale Ratings and Reviews
Came here a year ago, almost to date to celebrate my friends birthday and here we are again for another birthday dinner. I forget how much I like this place, a bit pricey, but the food, atmosphere and service has always been good. I had made an Open Table Saturday dinner reservations for 2. Daniel our server who made our evening experience enjoyable
Upon arrival we were greeted and seated toward the back, which was a better location than last time here. A bit loud when you sit near the bar area. We started off with Cocktails, Primarita ( tequila, organic agave nectar, pressed lime - no sugar, 1⁄2 the calories, all organic )
and a Mezcal Flight. The flight of 5 tasters, presented on a beautiful tray was big for our small table, we only had room for our Tableside Guacamole. Eventually we ordered our entrees, we shared was the Pork Shoulder for 2 and Green Chile Duck Confit (worked out perfectly because there were 2 duck legs). All the dishes were wonderful! especially the Birthday Pumpkin Bread Pudding that came with a Sparkler at the end.
Only Negative is the lighting. No food photos to go with the fan review and my friend and I had to use our phone flash light to read the menu.
Atmosphere: great, Service: excellent Food: very good.
Service was very attentive. We enjoyed being able to have dinner outside on the patio. ( It was a little chilly, but they had heat lamps.) Good selection of cocktails, including their signature margaritas, which were delicious. We enjoyed having our guacamole prepared tableside. I had a filet and my husband had the duck. Everything was prepared beautifully and very good.
The food was fantastic. The service was grand. But it was so dark that everyone was using their cell phone flash lights to read the menu. Even when the server brought your order he used a flashlight to show you what everything was. I don’t mind dim lighting but this was ridiculous. I tried to eat by the very small candle in the middle of the table but gave up and turned on my cell phone light and propped it up to shine on my plate!
Just as good as we remembered. We had been here years ago and decided to try it again because we remembered the incredible guacamole which was just as we remembered. We debated who picked the better dishes and decided it was a tie. The Mexican Street corn is addictive! I ordered the chicken which was to die for! It is a fun atmosphere. We sat inside because it was a likely chilly out but it had a good vibe. We sat outside on the patio last time which was nice. Hopefully the weather will comply next time we travel to Scottsdale.
We went to The Mission before a show at Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts. The restaurant is 2 or 3 blocks from the theater. Excellent service and very interesting food. Guacamole was prepared table side, to our requests. Duck confit was very special. Tacos were ample and very tasty. It was a birthday for one of our party and the banana bread pudding desert was fantastic. The restaurant is a little pricey but you don't mind it when the meal is wonderful and the service is efficient but unrushed.
I have been coming to The Mission during thanksgiving every time I am in Scottsdale. They have a great innovative menu, very romantic ambiance with a cool vibe indoors. Our server went out of her way to help one friend in our party who changed the dressing on the salad. Smart service! This is my last experience but every year the inspirational food, the interesting drinks they continue to impress.
I've dined at the Mission several times now and it never disappoints. The table side made guacamole is delicious and has become our favorite appetizer, I highly recommend it. You can't go wrong with any of the tacos dishes. Try the cucumber and jalapeno margarita! Staff is super friendly and always on point.
My friends and I were there for my birthday celebration. One of my friends loved the salsa so much that she asked if she could purchase it and take it home with her. The four of us shared 4 different street taco selections. My favorite one was the fish tacos, but I also enjoyed the chicken, brussels sprouts and butternut squash ones. My friend had to send her margarita back because it was a little too sweet for her taste, but they fixed it for her and the new one was fine. For my birthday dessert, I was given a complementary bread pudding. It was outstanding! All in all, the food we had was the best I’ve had in a long time. We were seated on the back patio outdoors. The noise level was a little louder than I would like, but it wasn’t unbearable. At the end of the meal, it took forever to get our bill. When the manager saw us and came over to see how we were doing, the waitress then rushed over to bring us our bill. This was the first time that my friends had eaten at this restaurant. They loved the food! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!
This was our second time at The Mission - we loved it, great restaurant with amazing food, exceptional service, vibrant ambience, perfect evening. We loved the Table side guacomole paired with delicious cocktails. The crispy pork & cola lime glaze service on lettuce were delicious. The pork shoulder served with small taco - YUMMY!! Ended the evening with the Pumpkin Bread pudding - speechless!
Visiting Scottsdale with friends and decided to try this restaurant for a second time in seven years. Table side quac was a hit but menu choices are limited. Maybe a good idea to look at the menu before getting there, especially if you are sitting inside as it is very dark. Needed our cell phone light to actually read the menu. Would have preferred a table outside. Food was ok but nothing to write home about. On the pricey side for what you get. Great service though.
Once again the food was delicious and once again, the atmosphere was so dark that we could barely see what we are eating. We chose a table outside hoping it would be lighter, but alas no. Do not understand why a restaurant that serves such delicious food chooses to hide it in nearly totally darkness.
We were visiting from out of state. The food was very good as was my Primarita margarita. I had the green chile duck confit and it was delicious. Unfortunately we sat at the back of the restaurant and it was really dark. It was hard to see what I was eating and other tables were using flashlights to read the menus they were lucky enough to get. When we were seated, we were told they didn’t have anymore menus and we’d have to wait. It’s the first time I’ve ever ordered dinner from a restaurants online menu while seated in the restaurant. Service got to be a little slow when they got busy and we were under a time constraint, we were late due to traffic and we were told (twice) we only had that table until 7:15. All in all the food was good, our server was attentive when he could be, but don’t go there for the atmosphere, or great service.
P.S. Even with the slower service and no menus we were gone by 6:50, not bad for all the forces against us.
