The service and food were excellent. However the noise level was extremely uncomfortable.
Sam was an amazing server! Was on top of it and gave great recommendations! Thank you!
Always a delicious meal!!! Margaritas are fabulous and chips salsa and guacamole wonderful.
The food was great the service was horrible
If you go to the Mission always go with another couple to make sure you have a party of 4. If you have a party of 2, the seating quality is extremely poor. If you have a party of 2 and you want to move to an empty table that seats 4 people in a good location, you are not able to. The reason is the tables have been "reserved" for 4 people. If you going out on a date do not go to the Mission, if you have a party of 4 then it is an okay restaurant.
Also they have some weird music that is really loud and difficult to hear someone talking. The restaurant is very dark and it is hard to see your food. I had to use my light to determine what exactly I was eating.
My husband had a business dinner with his Senior VP of a major nationwide company. We were looking forward to taking him to The Mission since he was wanting something different than a steakhouse.
Server started out great(upstairs) then as tables filled up, service was basically non existent. After receiving our apps, it was about 25 min to even have him back to take orders. It was obvious he was not receiving any help from his peers and seemed he was the only one for upstairs(poor management). When our food came out, it was old and the tecate steak was old and very smokey to the point it was more like a smoked bbq flavor, the chicken tacos were dry. It was all around disappointing and we talked it up so much the result was actually embarrassing since he(husbands boss) has restaurants and b&bs. He didn’t hold back with his opinion and stated it was terrible. What a let down.
Great margaritas and guacamole. Food always good
Let's start by saying The Mission in Old Town is one of our favorite restaurants, but the Kierland location failed to deliver. Perhaps it's related to the pandemic, but our food (porcetta & salmon) was overcooked and the ambiance pales in comparison to the original location in Old Town.
We were in Scottsdale for one week and this was our last dinner out. Didn't realize we were saving the best for last. Great friendly, knowledgeable waiter. Best salsa I've had in my life. My wife had the halibut and I had the chorizo stuffed pork shoulder. Both were excellent.
I definitly would dine here again. We both enjoyed our meals.
Food, service, everything was great! I love The Mission, and send many out-of-towners the the Mission. Special message the Matt and Co. I've been a restauranteur for many years and my wife is an interior designer, specializing in restaurants. We both commented, as we were leaving, that the Kierland is an exceptionally well designed restaurant. Congratulations.
Breaking every covid rule and hostess staff was incredibly rude to us even though we had a reservation. We ended up leaving before eating.
We went for restaurant week. After arriving, we were told that the restaurant week menu only applies after 5 pm. After literally dozens of restaurant week meals over the years, this was the first time we have ever run into this. After looking again, it is not stated on The Mission site or the Restaurant Week site that the menu only applies after 5 pm. Not happy!
Went for restaurant week. Great food and atmosphere. We will be back!
The food at the Mission was carefully executed and perfectly seasoned.
All of the flavors were well combined and complimentary.
Definitely will return in the future.
Ate upstairs patio lovely
This place hasn't lived up to the hype in years; all flash and no substance; the wait staff is harried and very unfriendly; so many other excellent places to go to spend my money more wisely
Swing and a miss. The food lacked creativity and quality. I got an appetizer that was undercooked shrimp and pickles, for one it was gross and for two I can’t eat undercooked fish I’m pregnant, no where on the menu did it say the shrimp was raw. My boyfriends appetizer was an abomination of flavorless pork belly In iceberg with peanut butter on it. It was possibly the worst thing I’ve ever tasted. My steak came out blue rare when I ordered medium rare. Had to send it back, which I never do. My food came back missing the rest of the dish after they reheated it in the microwave. And I can see why they sent it out so rare it was the toughest cheap cut I’ve ever been served. The red snapper was good, that was it. The waiter mispronounced everything on the menu and took 35 minutes to pick up our check. NEVER AGAIN. Happy anniversary dinner sucked. Thanks mission.
This restaurant with the most disappointing of the week. We had the Arizona restaurant menu. The food was Bland and uninteresting. The drinks were tasty the chips and salsa and guac we're good. I don't know if it was an off night or what this is one of the most successful restaurants in Scottsdale. But for us that night it was a complete bust.
Beautiful restaurant in a nice area. Very good food!
Service was quite slow and it took a long time to get our entree and deserts. It seems like the restaurant is very popular and was quite busy even on Wednesday night!
I wish I could give higher ratings. But we were completely forgotten about. We were there for a birthday dinner during restaurant week and they were busy. But as tables around us started to receive their food after we had been there for over an hour we had to say something. We ended up asking for our food to be boxed up as we waited over an hour for our appetizers. We did get to enjoy drinks and chips and salsa and good conversations but it was probably the worst I’ve had in a long time. To the point where they were nice enough to try and compliment most of our food items for us. Which we did appreciate so again it’s hard to leave this review but we sold this place up for her birthday. Table guacamole no go due to Covid and then we never got our entrees or desserts. Hope If we return to have a better outcome.
Apparently the kitchen was overwhelmed because our appetizers arrived an hour and 45 minutes after we ordered. They were generous with the chips and salsa I’ll give them that. We ended up just canceling the main courses and walking over to Shake Shack and getting shakes.
The Mission is the perfect date night spot. The food is a lock as is the service and the value. Social disttancing was Ok, noit great. We are seeing in other restraunts like the Pedal Haus, that the server and host both ask patrons to wear masks when not seated to respect the proximity to others.
We wanted a place that was fun and relaxing and The Mission is both! There is a large tequila list in various price ranges. The guacamole is outstanding and their signature pork belly with cola glaze is great. We also enjoyed the espresso churros. Other mains seem to be hit or miss. The kitchen can be hit or miss getting food out as well. But overall everyone is great and its a fun atmosphere!
Great selection of unique tacos and amazing sides. Good drink selection but the real winners are the sides. So much flavor and so many options. Definitely a more upscale taco and moderated heat. Service was friendly.
Arrived on time for a 7:45 reservation for 4 and our table wasn't ready. We went to the bar and had a drink while we waited a while. After waiting for at least 30-40 minutes we were brought to our table. They did give us 2 free margarita tickets for the wait (there were 4 of us though and 4 would have been better!). We then waited a little bit more for our waiter to come and take drink order. It was so loud in there that we he had to remove his mask so we could hear him. At this point, we had been waiting a long time and we were hungry! Finally, my husband asked if we could see a menu. We had probably been at the table for an hour already. Food arrived quickly after it was ordered and everything was delicious. I just think the service is not what it used to be but the food was great. If you're not in a rush this is the place.
Love the decor. Service was extremely slow (seated us 20 minutes after our reservation; didn’t take our order for another 30 minutes). Food was just average; nothing outstanding. We had the restaurant week specials and one of our entrees was sent back for being too fatty. The carrot cake had SO much nutmeg...almost tasted crunchy; spicy kick. I wouldn’t return for either the food or the service. The best part is the beautiful decor and the lively bar.
Came here with my boyfriend for their restaurant week menu. We got chips and guac to start with margs. We were going to wait to put our main food order in but the waiter told us the kitchen has been pretty back up and we may want to put it in now. Good thing we listened because it took a solid 20 mins at least for the first round of apps to come out. Then it took another 20 minutes for our entrees to come out. My steak came out cold — normally I don’t like to spend food back but for the amount of money we were spending, I didn’t want to eat a cold steak so I asked them to remake. Overall, food was good and so were the margaritas but the service was not good. Towards the end of the meal we were getting antsy and I noticed a few tables around us having similar comments/reactions as well.
The drinks were terrible. Almost undrinkable.
Our waiter was overwhelmed with tables all over the restaurant.
The Mission in Old Town is so much better.
The Mission has always been a fun and favorite spot for us. The dinner at this last visit though was a bit disappointing. After the waiter asked how the food was I said "flavor is great, but it is a little dry" (as was my wife's food too). He asked if I wanted more sauce, but after I told the waiter that we're fine...it was like he disappeared until it came time for the check. Up to that point he had been very attentive - I dunno maybe he thought I was insulting him or something, but his service level suddenly fell off the cliff.
In the new socially distanced world, this place was a great choice. It didn’t feel forced but we felt that we had reasonable space between us and other people. The service was very attentive, and overall the experience was wonderful. It had been a while since my girlfriend and I had gone out for dinner, and we both were impressed with the food, the service, and the overall experience.
Fish tacos we NOT on par.
My husband and I went to the mission for the first time and we are so glad that we did! Everything from the food to the service was impressive. We would absolutely go again!
Very disappointed. We were seated outside as requested, but to a area upstairs where there were no misters in 110 degree heat. Asked to be relocated to where were misters downstairs, but they said there wasn’t anything available. We were trying to socially distance because of Covid 19, and didn’t want to be in an enclosed space. I felt they should’ve told me that at the time of reservation.
Food is expensive for what you get, and extremely spicy. Even the margarita was disappointing with a $14 price tag and came without salt as requested.
Over rated Mexican food. There are so many better options here in AZ and much better price. Please do not sit customers outside on patio without proper misting or cooling system. We get that there’s limited seating bc of covid but to pay premium to sweat through dinner not cool. We sat at North patio the night before and it was fine because they had adequate cooling misters
It was my first time to this restaurant and it was over the top fabulous! Be sure and make a reservation because it is a busy place !
As usual, food was excellent! Service started out well, but once our food was delivered, the waiter hung out at the hostess stand instead of checking on us. We had empty water glasses and he missed out on selling a second round of drinks. It was unusually quiet in the restaurant, so service should have been excellent. This will not prevent us from returning because we have had great service every other time we have dined there.
Amazing staff and the food was delicious! Will be back for the skirt steak tacos!
Great food and an amazing waiter—-Sam!
Food is excellent but it's very noisy. Sit upstairs if you want to be able to talk with your party.
