Great neighborhood restaurant, one of the best on the upper west side.
Nice fresh space, bright but inviting. I good simple menu, and friendly service.
Nice and bright restaurant space but the food was average and service was slow (took about 30+ minutes to get food even though the restaurant was half empty.
Completely unexpected space with AMAZING service!! Elizabeth, our server, was knowledgeable, funny and trustworthy!
Beautiful location with excellent service however the food is mediocre but prices are still high.
This is a great place to spend a long dinner celebrating if you find yourself above mid-town
Great space and service. I thought food portions could have been bigger for the prices they were charging!
What a gem. Cocktails were wonderful. As was food and service.
We were pleasantly suprised and very happy with our over all dining experience here. They offered the kids pasta with butter and/or cheese, the bread was amazing and the pasta Vongole something that I had was wonderful.
My food wss cold.
Clearly,cooked earlier and reheated.
Very disappointing...had to ask for salr and pepper.
Food not goodwas a celebration..
Nothing to celebrate
Noise was awful.
First time here since it Calle Ocho was in this space. While the celery root soup was stellar, the mushroom risotto and was so blah that it wasn't worth more than 2 bites. We went prix fixe but I wasn't sad to be missing anything else on the regular menu. Nothing stood out on it. I also ate 2 bites of the pannacotta, but my dinner companions demolished the chocolate lava cake. Waitress very attentive and the space is airy and pleasant. I might just consider it for drinks in the future because the bar looks fun and if quite large.
Wife’s Bday. Was great. Food was very good. Great menu!
The food is great but it comes out very slowly.
Such a beautiful space. The food and cocktails were delicious and creative, and the service was excellent.
I called ahead because a member of our party has mobility issues. From that phone call through dessert and coffee I could not have been happier. First, the menu is inventive and delicious. The rock fish appetizer was a hit. The sommolier helped us choose two very interesting wines for different courses. Our waitress was absolutely charming. I will definitely come back as soon as I can find an excuse!
We hadn't been here for a while but had family in from around the country and wanted to Wow them. Booked a table under the enormous skylight at 5:30 and watched as darkness settled in and the candles were lit - the entry into the main dining room is always a treat and this evening was no exception. We had some older folk in our group and the waitress took her time explaining the options and moved to their side of the table so she could be heard rather than raising her voice, which was a welcome gesture. Everyone throughly enjoyed all their choices, even down to the sides which had been prepared with interesting and delicious twists. The duck breast (the special that evening) was the highlight of my evening and the humble panna cotta with balsamic reduction was simply heavenly. We look forward to our next meal here!
Perfect in every way!
We were warmly greeted, our server was attentive without smothering us. The wine service was perfect, our meal arrived timely, beautiful and flavorful. The room was full but conversation was not an issue. If you have a chance give it a try.
Amazing breakfast sandwich
The food took a really long time to arrive and every table (not just us) looked like they were starving. The restaurant has a huge space so makes me wonder if they are understaffed
Great family restaurant for brunch. Very accommodating with strollers . Excellent menu .
Beautiful atmosphere. Went for brunch. It was delicious. Could have more children's options.
Olga is a terrific server and person and makes each dining experience a pleasure.
The dining room is gorgeous-the look is a combination of rustic and industrial, highlighted by the huge skylight. The room gets loud as night goes on. The creative seasonal menu spurs excitement and anticipation, but I found the execution was not quite up to what I expected.
The biggest reason for my poor review is the amount of time it took to get served the night we were there (at 7 on a weeknight). We ordered cocktails and the rock shrimp and pollenta appetizer. The appetizer took 45 minutes to come out, and we had to ask for some bread. The app itself was good but not great. We ordered the halibut and the roasted chicken. Again, we had to wait at least 45 minutes for our food.
During this time, our waitress and the management did try to make things right by delivering an intermezzo of fried squash with local honey. It was delicious and filling but didn’t make up for the wait. It may have been too filling as we were not really up to eating our entrees by the time they arrived.
Again the management tried to make it right by comping our drinks and appetizer. I am really grateful for this, I am. They true. However, I feel it did not make up for the experience I was looking forward to at the restaurant.
Just plain bad from beginning to end. This was our second visit here and we hoped it to be better than the brunch we had previously.
The service was absolutely horrendous. They completely ignored my dietary restrictions after I had communicated what they were to the server. My girlfriend's dinner was served cold and not as specified on the menu or ordered. The server, at some point, completely abandoned us and never came back to our table. I assume because she knew things were going horribly and she wouldn’t get a decent tip. It wasn't a shift change, she simply never came back, not even to see if my girlfriend’s new dish was correct or even to bring us the check. The only bright spot was the nice Porter who got my girlfriend a correct and warm salmon entree and our check.
This place is only surviving on that nice atrium space - it’s a nice room for the UWS. The service is lacking in a big way though. As for the food, the flavor profiles are just plain odd. It’s as if the chef is trying to be too clever instead of delivering a solidly executed meal that is pleasing to the palette.
I had dinner for the first time there the other night and loved the physical space. The food was delicious and the service could not have been more helpful and attentive (as well as enthusiastic in describing the individual dishes). I would recommend this highly.
I've heard good things about the Milling Room, but we went last Saturday night and the food was unexceptional, the service a bit slow, and it was noisier than I'd hoped. My friend had been there before and said it had been much better. I'd give it another try maybe earlier in the week. Maybe they were overworked.
We went for Sunday brunch. Arrived at 12:30. Service was incredibly slow. It took 20 minutes to receive our coffee and almost an hour before our food came out. The manager did apologize for the delay in the kitchen. The setting is very attractive, but the food itself was quite mediocre.
Big disappointment- the food was overpriced, salty, and not fresh. The service was sub-par, but the ambiance was nice
Starters and entrees were all delicious, though we had a long wait between the two. My strip steak was done nicely (med rare) but not hot enough. Overall a very good meal but can't recommend it wholeheartedly.
The food and service were excellent. Love the decor too. Next time I'm in NYC, I'll be back.
Pork Chop Special was Special! Temperature/ cook and seasoning was perfect. Delicious. Spicy Vongole Bucatini was spiced nicely and clams were tasty though pasta was dry and stuck together, basically inedible.
we love this restaurant. great service, great entrees and desserts. only issues are that we don't love the appetizer choices, and the wine choices are all priced relatively high.
The service, ambiance, food —everything was great, and most importantly we were able to hear each other. We like quiet places, made our reservation half hour after the restaurant opens which worked for us.
We have had numerous meals at The Milling Room and it just never disappoints. The service is friendly and professional, the food always well above average. The setting is spacious, airy, and pretty with the long skylight overhead and the rustic surroundings. You never feel like the diners at the next table are on top of you.
Outstanding stop for a great meal, definitely give it a try!
Good brunch entrees but not worth getting dessert. Service was slow.
There was a time gap between the appetizers and the meal. We told the waiter that we needed to leave by 9:00 for a show, and he did not remember our time constraint.
We had an early date night before a show at the Beacon Theatre. Service was great. Our waitress and the staff was very good about managing our time constraint. Loved the dining room and the food was delicious. Will go back the next time I'm on the upper west side.
