Lovely service, quiet noise level and excellent food. The asparagus appetizer with eggs was delicious and the salmon was cooked just as rare as I ordered. My husbands eggplant with miso sauce was divine.
A bit expensive. The octopus appetizer was delicious but a smaller than usual portion for octopus. The pasta was good, not great. The ambiance is worth coming for.
Highly recommend this place! All of the dishes we tried were extremely well done- recommend the spicy pasta with clams, chicken main, and Brussels sprouts. The chocolate cake was amazing too. The only problem was the service was extremely slow, but the person bringing water was very attentive!
The food is surprising, and not for everybody’s taste
Everything great. Food, service, ambiance. Fabulous dining room. A really nice place for a date. Prices are commensurate with what is offered. Staff were flexible when our large party arrived in three batches. Menu is a little on the short side. Not super vegetarian-friendly, although there are vegetarian options. Air conditioner is blowing too cold for my taste. Bring a jacket if you don't like it cold.
Not very attentive wait staff. The food items were good but I wouldn’t say it was an extensive menu. The location and the decor are stunning but I think adding a few more staple items to the menu- pancakes, Cobb salad- would make a big difference. Also, it was very quiet and still the wait staff barely came over to check on coffee orders or if we needed anything.
Stunning food, decor, and service.
LOVE EVERYTHING I HAVE NOT HAD A GREAT DINING EXPERRIENCE AS GOOD A THIS MEAL WAS IN A VERY LONG TIME.THE CAESAR SALAD WAS TO DIE FOR.THE PASTA CLAM DISH WAS SO GOOD I WANTED MORE
I ordered a lobster dumpling and I got a gnocchi instead. When I complain the waiter said that “ their dumpling is like that!!!!)
This is at least disrespectful to don’t say dishonest!!
Yes, would recommend with a caveat. Service was extraordinarily slow, so if you've got anywhere to be short of 2 hours, I would not recommend. We had a 6pm res and needed to be somewhere local at 8pm. Food did not arrive until 730pm, which we then rushed and got takeout boxes. Otherwise, fine.
All around fantastic experience that catered nicely to our 3 year old and made us feel special on our wedding anniversary!
We booked this restaurant completely at random and had an amazing, delicious meal with a huge variety of salads and sides and everyone (in a party of seven ranging from 13 to 73) loved their meals. The servers were super attentive and gracious, helpful with an allergy, kind to some unexpected and eccentric requests, and the entire experience was absolutely delightful. I wholeheartedly recommend!
Great food, creative but not odd
Plenty of good wines
I had the special halibut and it was tasteless - We waited over 45 minutes from when appetizer served to get our main course.
Very classy atmosphere, good food prepared well. The wait staff was attentive and friendly.
Went for Father’s Day and they were out of several menu items that several of us desired. I understand this happens but it was a disappointment. One of our table ordered the potato latkes which were over cooked and more like three potato crisps. I got the avocado toast with kim chee. Good but not a deal or extra special in any way but certainly adequate. A veltliner by the glass was a generous pour and going rate 14$
Space is large and airy. Service was good.
By far dessert was the best part. The warm rhubarb tart with earl grey ice cream was delicious and the chocolate lava cake was also very good.
Not craving a re run but if I do would be wise to book much earlier for brunch than 2:30.
As soon as I saw the picture of the place with the big skylight I reserved right away for Father’s Day. I checked for reviews and most comments was how slow the service was but still excited to go coz menu was also decent.
So in person awesome place a lot of attentive servers
But the kitchen was super slow for breakfast brunch
Eggs come on !!! But was good even though served cold.
We wanted to finish off with desserts but did not know that they’re making the cake from scratch- it was a long wait. The server took off the dessert charge thank you
Great special occasion place. Beautiful room.
My friend ordered the yellowfin tuna puttenesca, its not sliced, the sauce is like a salsa on the fish, the side looked like some sort of salad like a seaweed.
I had the bucattini and clams, the clams are in the shell and taste like baked clams with breadcrumbs. Bery good. The bucattini had a lot of cheese just enough wine sauce. Excellent bread and olive oil for the table.
We had a bottle of wine. Glasses and cocktails are priced above average.
Lovely crowd, well behaved so you can acually have a conversation. Mixed ages.
Returning to The Milling Room 2 years later, my husband and I delighted in the unique ambiance, but were both greatly disappointed in the food - an attempt to create haute cuisine gone terribly wrong. Rather than achieving complimentary and unexpected pairings of flavor and texture, the kitchen took a deconstructed approach that resulted in a haphazard clashing of ingredients. My grey, undercooked risotto had at least 4 sauces or purees drizzled on top, including something I would describe as a thick vinegary balsamic, a sun-dried tomato puree, and something yellow. They overpowered the bland risotto; a mash-up of condiments reminiscent of what a home cook might resort to in an attempt to salvage a recipe that didn't turn out well. My husband's steak, while more simply prepared, was similarly underwhelming. The $39 NY strip loin was lean, tender, and without much flavor (should of guessed that ahead of ordering it). "Strawberries & Cream" trifle was not dreamy layers, but again presented in jarring textures, including coarse cookies and small dollops of gelatinous strawberry.
I love this place.
In Japanese words Oishii, Subarashii, kanji ga yoi, Suteki na kuukan, Akarui, Hiroi, Yuttari shita Kuukan,
My two friends and I had for the most part a wonderful dinner at The Milling Room. The room
is stunning! The food was excellent though on the pricey side. We absolutely loved our very
friendly and very professional server. The room is wonderful to be in and I would return just
for that. My only complaint is that the corkage was on the high side at $40.
Food was tasty and different, service was fantastic - felt the quantity of food for the $ value was a little disappointing. My husband ordered the Steak and for $39.00 felt it could have had another slice, as they cut the steak into 2 pieces and it look very stingy. Otherwise, we would go back!
Fantastic all around. Five stars all around. With many so many dining options in NYC, few stand out and are truly worth time and money.
The ambiance of this restaurant is amazing. Went with a part of 6, everyone loved their brunch meal. I would highly recommend the Milling Room!
This is one of our favorite spots for breakfast on the weekends. It's in a quant little area on the Upper West Side close enough to Central Park for a nice stroll afterward. The ambiance is lovely as you will feel as if you were having coffee and breakfast in a greenhouse - it's the perfect tuck away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Food is delicious, service is good and the natural light makes it an awesome spot!
Great for date night or a group dinner party! Delish food and drinks. Great open space.
Sure. Solid. Great service. Loved the server. She knew stuff and was happy to share what she knew. The yellowtail was wonderful, the tuna was terrific, but the pork chop was special. Get the cheese for dessert and not the more traditional dessert, as it's just serviceable rather than special. But we had a nice anniversary!
Beautiful large room. Food was good, pre-theater dinner was a good deal. Nice spot to take friends. Noise level was low enough you could hear each other. Service was on the slow side so you never feel rushed.
Excellent food and amazing ambience! If you're on the UWS, I HIGHLY recommend this place for a meal - it is spacious, gorgeous and totally awesome - we had a super time!
Very attentive service, tasty entrees and nice ambience.
The space is gorgeous: bright and lovely decor. We were pleased that there were vegetarian options to choose from. The celery root soup was promising, but arrived with a thick skin on top and could have used for seasoning. Loved the offerings on the cheese plate! The asparagus salad was fantastic. and the fresh baked bread was a nice surprise. The white asparagus and latkes: latkes were great, but the white asparagus was limply strewn over the plate and so over cooked that it was mushy and turned to goo when I tried to cut it. The woody ends weren’t trimmed either, which was surprising. Service was unimpressive: our server wasn’t very attentive and never once asked how our meals were. But the other staff made sure plates were cleared, waters filled, etc.
Excellent attentive staff couldn't be lovelier. Really enjoyed out bunch. Was there recently for a great dinner as well. Open, light and airy feel.
Fish always excellent here. Salads were great. Love the Tuesday night BYOB with no corkage fee.
Server was informed and professional
On Tuesdays they have a BYOB policy which is great and we take advantage of this frequently. The big faux pas they consistently make is whomever (server/sommelier) opens the bottle patrons have brought will pull the cork and pour a taste for themselves before pouring for the customer. This is such poor form, just the assumption that the customer doesn’t mind is terrible. When it is a restaurant supplied bottle from their wine list then tasting to ensure it’s quality is appropriate but tasting a customer’s bottle without asking first isn’t.
Watching the server do this completely stalled conversation at our table and my guests were appalled.
We went for Sunday brunch and it was perfect for our small group. The airy, light-filled atrium provided a feeling of the outdoors without the direct sunlight. We also appreciated that each table had plenty of room, so it's a nice ambiance for conversation. The service and food met the level of the ambiance, so we had a wonderful time catching up with friends. Good food, great ambiance, excellent conversation -- we thoroughly enjoyed The Milling Room.
Our brunch was delicious, the atmosphere very nice and the service really wonderful. But with two orders of scrambled eggs, a shared dessert, no alcohol, no coffee, the total with tip was over $75. That seems really much too high. Had the eggs been $14 instead of $23, it would have made a huge difference.
Nice food in a lovely setting. Very good ambience. Quite expensive.
The food is unique and exquisite. The server was very attentive and organized.
Best food and service I’ve had in years!
