Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Really enjoyed our meal and nice evening.
We loved this place. It's a bit pricier than we usually like to pay, but there's a great happy hour, and the food is plentiful enough that sharing is possible. When we went (early on Vet's day) it was super-quiet. But it is the ambiance and service that makes the place fabulous - it is absolutely lovely, and the waitstaff is kind, generous, funny, attentive when you want them but not intrusive otherwise. The food was terrific although we didn't sample a lot of it. I'm planning to go back soon, and it's also excellent for large parties and groups.
Beautiful venue. We were there to interview a job candidate and saw another table of colleagues who were also there to interview a job candidate. The experience is great for a work dinner and great to show off the types of beautiful restaurants here in New York and on the UWS. The food was fine but not outstanding, save the excellent steak. I had the scallops - they were fine but a bit overcooked and the dish as a whole was not seasoned well. More vegan options would be a plus - two colleagues were vegetarian and had salad for dinner. I would have liked them to have more choices on the menu.
Had a 12:30pm reservation for a special brunch for a reunion of friends (only 5 of us). Long delay to be greeted. After 20 minutes, we had to ask to place a drink order.
There was virtually zero welcome or introduction of the menu even though none of us had been there before. Purely an "order taking" situation.
You know there is something wrong when we were more enthusiastic about the food and experience than the server. Food and cocktails rarely served to the correct person. Zero sense of interest from the server throughout the meal. No thank you. Dropped off the check very quickly.
For a $400 brunch, it was rough. We loved the food and drinks but wouldn’t go back.
This is my favorite UWS restaurant— lovely open space, excellent and always novel food, super service and fair prices....what’s not to love!?!!
The Milling Room is at best, a mediocre restaurant experience. If I factor in the pricing, I cannot recommend this place.
The night before we dined at the Union Square Cafe, which was approximately 35 dollars more for two people, albeit with more wine, and was far, far superior in every way.
If it's near your place and you are satisfied with "OK" it will be...OK.
Wonderful food and service. Lovely ambiance.
Exceptional fig and prickly pear salad...terrific tuna tartare, scallops and skate. We sat for a long time after dinner and no one rushed us. Second time here - will definitely return again.
-pumpkin risotto with lobster: this was INSANELY good. Honestly one of the best things I’ve ever eaten.
-unique and yummy cocktails
-the room itself: very unusual and gorgeous vaulted ceilings
-bread pudding for 2: crispy, gooey, perfect
-the price: dinner for 4 was a cool $500
Really enjoyed my meal here. Definitely worth the trip if you can afford it/for a special occasion!
As always a great experience. The food, seasonal as it was, could not have been more enjoyable and rich with flavor. While it’s certainly not in your “everyday” dinner spot due to price range alone, it’s fab.
always a good choice for a special dinner or occasion or just wanting to treat myself to invariably delicious food.
It was very good!
I will go back!
The food was very good and the service was excellent
I had the pumpkin risotto with lobster. The flavors were very good although I wish it had a little more pumpkin flavor. My date enjoyed the flank steak - it was perfectly cooked.
Great food, convenient location, beautiful restaurant
I love the atmosphere and that the noise level is low. Food is also great and they have very nice wine.
Always reliable. Good food and a lovely ambiance. Noisy but tables are well spaced. Appreciated that I could sample the wine before “committing”. Venison was outstanding; steak and skate were good; pasta was good too. Nice warm bread with olive oil. Still miss their spicy black squid ink pasta ...the best we ever tasted! Bring it back please! Expensive but high quality.
The back room is really beautiful, airy and light. So different from the more casual but nice too bar front. We had a nice experience, good food, nice wine and drink list.
Wonderful atmosphere and the cocktails are on point. I'm very picky about martinis and they do an excellent job at The Milling Room. Food is always good. And I love the intimate, candlelight feel of the dining room.
Beautiful dining room. Quiet atmosphere. Great food.
Katie was an amazing waitress, and we had such a wonderful time. The ambiance is so unique for the upper west side.
Food was not as much remembered it to be, but the service was excellent and so was the setting.
great place for lunch because of the skylight; also spacious and festive for dinner
We went here for my moms birthday and the hostess had given our table away even though we arrived before the reservation. Wouldn’t tell me what was going on and had us stand around for a long while with no information on what’s going on. The food was not good for the price and over all I was embarrassed when my mom asked if we could leave early. I wish I could have given her a good birthday experience but left feeling like the milling room really dropped the ball. The service was slow even though we were one of the only customers and the staff out numbered us. Very disappointing.
Was looking forward to dining here. The room is lovely. The service was good.
The food was a complete disappointment.
Grilled Octopus appetizer was cold and undercooked.
My wife had the salmon which was also flavorless.
I had the scallops which consisted of four scallops (small for sea scallops) and a lot of cauliflower.
Will I go back? For brunch maybe. But not for dinner.
Good and service was good but the meals were very expensive for what they were.
It is a little pricey, and the noise level was a little bit high, but it did not detract from a perfect evening. Our waiter was superb and the food perfect.
We will definitely go there again.
The space is beautiful. The food is at par with the popular brunch spots in the UWS. This is a hidden gem.
One of the most unexpectedly enjoyable ambiences in Manhattan, the Milling Room offers sophisticated, savory fare in a huge but cosy, multi-story room with a curved glass ceiling. The room is dark and attractive, and while inside one imagines oneself dining in Northern California rather than Manhattan. A delicious escape.
Fun birthday dinner. Very pretty. Lovely service. Good food. Great selection of libations. All good
This was the fourth visit to The Milling Room and we were disappointed. The food was just OK. Salads were tasty but quite small. Risotto was very rich and the salmon was again a small portion.
Our biggest issue was with the service. The server should understand that one doesn't have to hover or over explain dishes. It all felt a bit rushed and fussy.
Delicious food. Shockingly easy to hear. Outstanding service.
They forgot our orders and we literally waited for an hour before seeing our food.
We had a party of 8 for my girlfriends birthday, menu was a little limited, we were surprised there were no specials for the day (it was a Saturday), service was awkward and slow, definitely not what you would do expect for this price point. Food was ok nothing spectacular but again for this price point I think that should be a given. We enjoyed ourselves but no one left saying we can’t wait to go back. Also the restaurant was really just too dark, we’re all in our mid 30s and almost all of us had our phone out to try and read the menu, also a little odd a table of 8 was given 1 drink menu to attempt to share, not bad service just awkward.
Our first visit to this restaurant went perfectly well. Although it is a fairly large room with a very high ceiling conversation at our table of four was quite pleasant. No need to raise voices above normal speaking levels. Our waiter was terrific. Very nice man who was attentive without being overwhelming.
We ordered a bottle of wine and it was brought to the table by the sommelier who was very helpful. We all had different dishes and enjoyed them completely. This is a restaurant we will gladly return to.
The entrees were a bit uneven. For example, one guest’s pumpkin and lobster risotto was bland and not particularly delicious, while another’s filet mignon was excellent—seasoned to perfection and absolutely wonderful. Appetizers and desserts were uniformly good. With the atrium-like barrel vaulted ceiling, the atmosphere is special, but the large table in the back of the room, in front of the fireplace, is unpleasantly dark—even with candles.
I took my coworker here for a little bon voyage dinner since he’ll be working in Palm Springs for several months. We both loved it. The atmosphere, food, and staff are truly amazing and on point. Definitely will go there again and again and again..
My daughter and I recently dined at The Milling Room. It is such a delightful place and the fare is absolutely delicious. I ordered the Crab Omelette and my daughter ordered the Pumpkin Risotto. I would definitely eat here again next time I'm in NYC. The Upper Westside is so charming and a nice getaway from Midtown.
Terrific, imaginative cooking. We loved it! The only thing I would ask is that they could possibly do something to absorb some of the ambient noise. THis is a great UWS find.
Excellent as always. Too loud. My fish was extraordinary but mt friend's risotto was 'too much' for a main course and not sufficiently interesting.
