Great ambiance and food. Service
The Milling Room is our new go-to for family dinners as their food is always consistent and the service impeccable (Vanessa was our waitress the last few times there and was amazing every time). Would highly recommend!
Gorgeous and tasteful yellow tomato soup and delicious red snapper with kholrabi had a wonderful meal and service
Food was phenomenal this visit! The best we have ever had there, and it's always been good. With their Tuesday corkage-free policy, it makes for an amazing and affordable dinner.
We had reservations on a Sunday at 8:45 pm and we felt very rushed to order our food because they said the kitchen was closing soon I don’t remember the time they said. I imagined relaxing and enjoying a slow meal with delicious food. It was not the experience I had hoped for and the food was not was I envisioned unfortunately. If they don’t want diners there that late they should not let you make a reservation at that time. It’s an expensive restaurant so I expected better.
Meeting my sons girlfriend for the first time
Our first time here. Absolutely loved it! Food, service, ambiance—just wonderful! The space is gorgeous! So convenient to Central Park. Try the dumplings. They were outrageous! Chocolate torte dessert to die for too! Highly recommend The Milling Room!
The room was freezing, we asked about the temperature but they said they have no AC which felt that was not the case as the air was blowing down in where we were seated and it was very hot and humid outside...
Dinner before Shakespeare in the Park. Very nice priced fixed menu for bargain of $50 for three course.
This restaurant is much more than a "Neighborhood gem"
It is a wonderful restaurant with a great bar; excellent cocktails and bar food as well as a very impressive menu. It is one of my most favorite places to eat on the UWS
As always, excellent food & service in a beautiful dining hall. Took advantage of their Tuesday night waived corkage fee which was a lot of fun too!
Nice but overpriced
Bland food, rude service
Amazing food and atmosphere, but service was very slow, and we didn’t get our drinks until right when our first appetizer came.
Lovely open space with sky lights and wonder of wonders we could easily converse while dining. Food very good- we'll be back.
I chose the Milling room because I had eaten here in a group and I have several allergies. It was no problem in April. This time, I told my daughter no problem to eat gluten free. It was presented as a problem however, and the waitress was like well you're gonna have to wait 30 minutes for chicken. And they ignored us the whole time awkward. Food was good and safe but really? 25% of NYC eaters eat gluten free.
Came here for my mom’s birthday... had been here once before for brunch & loved it. Had noted the gorgeous skylit dinning room as a great spot to bring my mom for her birthday.
Got there a few minutes before the dining room opened - so we were shown to the bar room. When the hostess came to get us for our table - we asked if someone would bring our bottle of champagne to the table - she said we should carry it over - Ice bucket and all. I’ve never in all my years in restaurant management heard of a guest being asked to carry their own ice bucket to their table.
Then we asked if we could change tables in the dining room to be less in the entrance — we were only the 3rd party to sit in the large room. We were told that we could not move bc the table we wanted was in a server section that had just been sat. There was a two top sat — surely they could have moved us & just maybe said - we just sat your server so he may need an extra minute to get to you.
I also had requested a candle in a dessert for my mom’s bday — we ordered two desserts at the table — no candle showed up. I know my mom did not order her own dessert - but still - and when you’re spending over $400 for dinner they could have given her a scoop of ice cream on the house to be able to bring her a candle ...
The venue is beautifully appointed, spacious and special. I would consider celebrating a special occasion for sure but I wasn’t pleased with the bartender at the Tavern. I had arrived 5-10 minutes prior to the opening of the restaurant and was instructed to wait at the bar/tavern section. When asked by the bartender whether I wanted to order a drink, I replied that I was probably not going to as I was waiting for a friend to arrive to have dinner at the restaurant. I did mention that I would take a look at the drinks menu. He left me alone and then came up once again to check in with me to which I responded with a “no”. He then gave me the sort of look which made me feel invalidated. The kind of look that had “you are no longer a valued customer and I will not bother with you anymore”. Everything that followed post this “not-so-welcoming” interaction, met and even exceeded my expectations. Israel, our server, made up for the bartender’s dismissiveness. He was knowledgeable, informative and there when we needed him. Overall, the experience was a positive one and I would recommend the restaurant to friends and extended family and would return with my family members.
a lovely space and excellent food, but very very noisy when busy. terrible acoustics
Food presentation and taste excellent but expensive
Loved the room, the service and food was light and delicious and interesting without being over the top.
This was our second visit and it will be our last. While the food was good, the service was deplorable. The waiter could have cared less. We waited over 30 minutes for our drinks to arrive and then had to ask for a wine list when dinner was finally served. The waiter asked one person if they wanted wine and then started to walk away from the table. Very disappointing all around
Very polite and friendly. Had no issues except if you are looking for a quiet place this is not it. Beautiful decor would 100% come back
Absolutely fabulous food, service, and space.
Octopus, steak Tatare, pork chop, and steak dishes were outstanding ! Highly recommend
Good food as were the drinks. The atmosphere is great. Very unique restaurant. You won't find this type of restaurant at many places. Service was good as well.
Food is delicious, and the space is lovely. I have to admit that while friendly, the table staff seemed a little confused.
1st time we tried it--loved it! Food, service, ambience all superb.
This place is fantastic.
Appreciate that the space and bathrooms are family friendly but the service was poor - our waiter was great but he was the only waiter amongst about 5-6 servers.
A pleasant surprise.
The room was spacious but not overwhelming and pleasant
The service was excellent my salmon was cooks perfectly my husbands yellowtail was delish
The combination of flavors were well balanced
Would definitely return
Great service, great food and the space..well the space is just amazing!!
The lobster dumpling was actually , room temperature, practically uncooked gnocchi with a bit of lobster. The entire table considered it ineatable.
Atmosphere is wonderful. Large bright airy dining room with ample seating. We use this restaurant primarily when we come to NYC to attend Shakespeare in the Park performances. There are not many restaurants within walking distance of the 81st entrance. However, we were disappointed in the food. Not one of the four of us had a good meal. Baked dumpling pasta was overcooked and over-cheesed. Tuna special was said to be served rare, but was so raw it might have been relabeled sushi.
Appetizers were overpriced. Desert was actually quite good. Would recommend only if you need this neighborhood, but careful menu selections are critical.
The food at the Milling Room is amazing. We split a delicious watermelon, tomato and feta salad. I had a wonderful lobster dumpling dish. We split a peach cobbler (which to my mind was just okay -- too much sugar in the peaches and I didn't like the topping, I prefer my cobbler with butter, brown sugar and flour, not oats). This was my second trip the Milling Room and both times I've really loved the food. Nonetheless, the noise is significant, and reduced my enjoyment, and I hated the fact that we were practically sitting in the dark. I'll come back for the food, but I wish they'd increase the lighting and decrease the volume. I was able to hold a conversation without feeling my vocal chords were being strained, but it wasn't much better than that.
Wonderful and delicious anniversary dinner. The hostess brought us complimentary glass of champagne to celebrate!
Very nice pre-theater restaurant...
Great space and hip ambiance. Food is very good but spicy. After asking waiter to make salad without pepper he should have told me about main course spicy as well.
Lovely service, quiet noise level and excellent food. The asparagus appetizer with eggs was delicious and the salmon was cooked just as rare as I ordered. My husbands eggplant with miso sauce was divine.
I've been to The Milling Room quite a few times and its always good. I love the open space and delicious food. The service is also fantastic. I think it's one of the best restaurants on the UWS.
