It's surprisng to find that one of the best restaurants in New York for creative and beautifully executed dishes is in a museum, even if it is the Met.

Always a marvelous experience - unrushed, solicitous and polished service. Wonderful creatively conceived, executed and plated food and an excellent wine list. Thanks so much and we look forward to returning!

The dining room is bland in the extreme, but the food is excellent, especially the crispy Brussels sprouts. And the exhibits on the way to dinner are quite impressive too...

While a frequent Museum visitor, I had never visited this dining room. It was outstanding in every way, starting from reception and service to the selections available. I plan to use it much more for entertaining friends and business people.

A fine lunch with my grand-niece, a senior at UVA. The dining room is an excellent place to talk about the wonders on view-- in our case, the Scholar's Garden, Hokusai's views of Mt. Fuji, and the Frank Lloyd Wright living room. It's also a good place to talk about how to build a life with time for art.

Most of the food was good but there were a few things that was off regarding some of the food items. The Bloody Mary tasted like a shrimp cocktail instead of tomato juice. The Key Lime pie was creamy and sugary but no taste of Key lime in the pie the plate also had balsamic vinegar all over it along with a few blackberries it just did not taste good. We ate brunch with a set price of $55 per person I found this to be expensive for what we ate. My hamburger was very good but I didn't find everything worth the cost. Looked the view of Central Park.

Wanted to stay at the museum after a special outing to see the Japanese armor. The ‘Polynesian’ tasting menu was a perfect option and the paired wines were the highlight.

That was the problem. While the food was fresh and thoughtfully prepared and presented, it was a bit overwrought and precious. The New Zealand and French wines were perfect and delicious, however.

The room is a touch too post-modern minimalist and the service was fawning. But those are quibbles about what was overall a delightful evening. Well worth a visit

Serenely decorated, quiet enough to easily converse, friendly service, casual. A little pricey perhaps for the quality of the food, but the food is good and the prices are not extravagant. Best to check menu to get an idea of the food. My wife liked the burger and fries. The best thing I had was striped bass from Ocean City. For us this restaurant is the best option for lunch when visiting the Met. It gives a much needed break with a calming atmosphere. We'll return.

Our hostess was wonderful and offered helpful information about the museum and we were seated promptly. Unfortunately our service was terrible, we dined for Saturday brunch. Only able to order one cocktail which was empty before the first course came and our waiter never returned to take another drink order. One of our group ordered coffee which was never refilled. A 3 course brunch for three took 2 1/2 hours to complete and nearly an hour of that was spent with only water on the table. Very disappointed.

The Dining Room was spectacular, especially. If you were sitting near the window. The food was delicious. My only complaint was there were only three choices on the Prix- fixed meal for entrees. My lunch companions lived their fish, I chose chicken because I did not want fish. The appetizers and desserts were wonderful. The service was unobtrusive. I throughly enjoyed the dining experience.

The Dining Room at the Met is busier now, since the Museum decided to open it to non-members. One result is a higher noise level, and less likelihood of being able to move if one finds a table less than pleasant. We sadly sat next to a foursome whose voice levels were high and delivery at times discordant. We did our best to ignore, but they largely spoiled what has usually been a good experience. A quick glance around did not reveal any other two-person tables to which we could have asked to b3e moved. The food was excellent, as usual. Those going on Saturdays and Sundays, though, should be aware that they need to take hunger: the meal is a prix fixe brunch, and while the choices are all appealing, it's not the place for a "light" meal those days. Service remains good, though the servers are understandably more rushed now. Overall, still good, but the opening up has come at a bit of a price.

My experience at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Dining Room was particularly disappointing, as I had previously had very good experiences there when the restaurant was open only to Metropolitan Museum members and the number of patrons was much lower.

This time, the service was particularly bad. There seemed to be many busboys yet a marked lack of waiters. Several times basic service requests, like asking for a cup of coffee, were either ignored or took unacceptably long to fulfill.

During my previous visit several years earlier, the food was at or near the quality one might anticipate in some of New York City's best restaurants. This time the food quality was mediocre at best. The squash soup lacked flavor. The prix fixe chicken was too salty and deficient in texture. The only course I found of acceptable quality was the pannacotta I had for dessert.

While I don't understand all the reasons behind the precipitous decline in quality from my earlier experience, my best guesses would be a combination of not hiring sufficient additional staff to accommodate the increased volume and perhaps a change in chef.

I hope the Metropolitan Museum is able to take the necessary steps to bring the Dining Room back to its earlier high standards.

Beautiful, elegantly casual modern design open plan, tablecloth restaurant with great Central Park, Cleopatras Needle (Obelisk) & skyline views if you are fortunate enough to get window seats. Varied a la carte seasonal menu with prix-fixe 3 course menu options available. Food is creative and flavorful. Usual wines and beverages. House made desserts. Service is highly professional. Chatty crowds with an international flair of many languages spoken.
Reservations are helpful since space is limited & crowds easily appear at a moments notice.

The quality of the cuisine is matched only by the professionalism of the service and the beauty of the space. It is a quiet, elegant dining room that is suitable for private conversations, thanks to widely spaced tables. A bonus is visiting a favorite art work or seeing an exhibit in the museum before lunch or dinner.
