The Metrograph Commissary
Delicious food-innovative salads-great steak frites!
The service makes you feel indifferent, come in spend or don’t come in and spend, we can care less. That is the feeling you get as you are walking in. You feel, as if you are being spoken to by the staff, not a welcoming conversation. Slow service and a slight feeling of judgment came from our waitress.
Staff is more concerned with each other, how they look, and not with service.
My first time and last all in one visit. Would not recommend to a friend.
Wonderful—Service, food, ambiance, pace. Got it all.
The Metrograph Commissary had a cool retro vibe and we loved the intimate atmosphere. The food was very good and the choices were abundant. The cocktails were fun and the staff was very friendly. Chef Nic even came out to see how our meal was and we appreciated his time. It was a great place for a date night!
We went to the Metrograph for a film and brunch. The french toast was delicious. The room has a nice atmosphere and the service is appropriately attentive.
The Commissary is the ideal spot before taking in a film at the Metrograph. Comfortable, creative food, easy flow of people. We had fish and vegetarian entres, both moderately priced, and a terrific cauliflower cake side. The chocolate flourless cake had more chocolate-cherry sauce than needed. A limited selection of wines by the glass, but good choices. We heartily recommend the Commissary.
Their food is surprisingly good. In a par with good NYC restaurants. I had cod beignets and then steak frites. The almond cake was fabulous. Definitely make a res for a Friday night. They don’t rush you. It’s crowded but your personal space is respected. Lots of people talking but perfectly possible to have a conversation across the table.
Check it out!!
My wife and I opted to eat hear before an 8:15 viewing of Uncut Gems. Service was EXCELLENT; everyone was super helpful and kind. Very tasty food, only black mark was lack of interesting vegan options. Only thing I could eat was a bowl of spaghetti. Felt like a I got a kids meal. 😢 But I’m and adult vegan and did check the menu in advance. Was hopeful for a special. So still 5 stars. Can’t knock em for something I knew going in.
Excellent food and great service. A downtown jewel.
Citrus Salad: Perfect! So glad to have a light meal option amid all finer items!
Always a fave. Great food and srink!
Like this place a lot, and it is in a part of the city that is not yet boutiqued and arted and hipstered to death.
Food was absolutely delicious, and the wait staff was incredibly polite. Dishes are a bit pricey, but totally normal for a higher scaled NYC restaurant.
The waiter was so nice and the food was amazing. We had the best experience
Food was excellent and the space is beautiful. Vibe is a little too clubby and loud. The service is perfunctory and efficient but very impersonal and a bit cold. There was a feeling we were being rushed.
The food is consistently lovely, and it provides a great environment for a pleasant chat before or after a movie.
Good drinks, and the shisito peppers were cooked as we asked (blistered & burnt). Salad with seared tuna, spiced duck breast, and cauliflower all delicious. Friendly, attentive service. Would definitely go back, esp. after a screening downstairs.
An exceptional location for a good time. Always a perfect choice for food, service and entertainment.
Fabulous food and service! Always a good people watching scene as well.
Wonderful atmosphere; a more bohemian Odeon is the vibe. So much more than dinner and a movie.
It can get loud before and after special screenings, but late on a Monday it was generously quiet. The service and food is outstanding. Highly recommended.
Great venue!
Slow service, but a fine meal nonetheless. Cauliflower cake a big hit.
Nice place and good food. Our waiter was not great that evening but everyone else was very friendly. I’ve been here several times at different hours and the food is always interesting. Space is nice and chill.
Wonderful food in a relaxed 1960-70’s film vibe atmosphere, good music. Only complaint was that the air conditioning was jacked up too high.
Amazing food and service, the lamb was to die for 🌹🌹🌹
$11 for the endive salad was a joke. They had just a few endives, a smattering of radishes, some olive oil and a teaspoon of sunflower seeds. Total ripoff. Burgers were merely okay for the price. We spent $50 on the salad and two burgers and I left hungry.
Made a reservation an hour before our film. Took them 30 minutes to take our order. By that time they told us it was took late to order any food... we were never able to ear dinner, just some fries...
Outstanding squash blossoms and infused Mezcal cocktail. Good steak and duck. Also, loved the fresh tasting zucchini terrine. The frizzante Gragnano delicious as well as novel. Helpful service. The space is on the second floor of an Art movie house.
We arrived at for our reservation only to be told that the restaurant is closed for a private party. If that wasn't bad enough, the "restaurant manager" told me that it was impossible for us to even have a reservation--even after I showed her my confirmation. Who wants to be called a liar when they arrive at a restaurant for what they're hoping will be a festive evening of good food with friends? If there's confusion with a reservation, a good manager would at least apologize and suggest alternatives. Instead, we were left on a stinky street to fend for ourselves.
And then I remembered the last time I had dinner at Metrograph. The service was terrible and the food was meh. This restaurant is a little bit of flash and absolutely no substance (or taste).
We had a wonderful meal here -- ordered 6 appetizers and 4 entrees among 5 people. The cheeses, stuffed squash blossoms, steak tartar, chicken entree and duck entree were outstanding. Our various cocktails were also memorable. (The spaghetti with plain tomato sauce was just "average" and tomato salad was salty.) Loved the spacious boho atmosphere -- definitely unusual in Manhattan. We chose Metrograph as an excuse to come to this part of the lower east side -- we had noticed the new Essex Market on a taxi ride out to Brooklyn, and realized there was more new stuff in this corner of the city than we knew. Walked back (westward) on Canal, a revelation of trendy bars and chinatown bus companies!
Great food, great drinks, great staff, great look, great atmosphere.
It’s always a lovely experience meeting at the Cmmissary. It’s like being in a 1935 Parisian spot, perfect for discussing the movie or just catching up with friends.
I LOVE Metrograph! I have been there a dozen times and always have a wonderful time! Will be back again soon!
My daughter and I had a lovely Mother’s Day celebratory brunch at the Commissary.
We are bond to do it again next year...
This is a really nice brunch location, with a great atmosphere and delicious food and drinks. I highly recommend it!
Very special place with wonderful atmosphere, terrific staff, and excellent food. Highly recommend.
Great Place. The portions are a little bit small, but all else is excellent. THANKS!
A little hard to access, but Metrograph makes it more than worthwhile. My date and I both agreed the food was about the best we've ever had. We've been back 3 times and plan to go back with friends...
Great ambience. Pleasant lighting and incredible French toast
