About this restaurant

Tucked away in the Cambridgeshire fens, The Merry Monk started life as three cottages in the17th Century and from there became The Red Lion Public House until 1992 when it was renamed The Merry Monk. Roaring log fires for cosiness during the winter months and a garden rounding off a gorgeous country restaurant offer perfection for enjoyment throughout the year.
Their focus at the Merry Monk is a casual and inviting atmosphere.
From light Meals to the A la carte Menu, drinks tea and coffee and of course a selection of wine by the glass are all served throughout the day. Make the most of your weekend by enjoying a traditional Sunday roast cooked to perfection by their team of chefs. The food they setve can be described as being the sort that you really want to eat, tempting but familiar with a slight twist. With his wife Michelle, Adrian has set out to create the ultimate convivial restaurant with local seasonal food that welcomes the local community and visitors alike.

Was stopping off in Newmarket and wanting to take people for Sunday lunch. I found this place through Top Table and the web site of the Merry Monk seemed to have an interesting menu - a cut above your average lunch. We were not disappointed - this place is a little gem. To give some outstanding ratings is not something I would do lightly having eaten at Heston Blumenthals "Dinner" at the Mandarin Hotel. It isn't the same but to see people provide this level of service, quality of ingredients, great cooking - presentation in a small village, we were hugely impressed. Highly recommended - hope they keep this standard up and at £35 per head for our Sunday lunch (including wine) I am definitely going back.

First time at the Merry Monk and wont be the last, first class food and service, dinner was sublime, the bill was not overpriced and good value for money, could not fault the Merry Monk the best food my wife and I have eaten in the area for a long time, if its cold outside sit next to the fire nearly cooked myself but loved it.
