Before theatre dinner on a weeknight. Very loud bar scene. Food is creative and cocktails are delicious but our server was very distracted.
Efficient and attentive. Highest recommendation.
Great menu choices, excellent service, every plate was prepared with love and care
Server was neither friendly or helpful. Delivered appetizers to be shared with plates but no serving spoons. Wine list non existent, menu lacking. Apps seemed pre-made as did some of the entrees as they were served within 10 mins of ordering. Burger and frites were good but Seared cod blah and very small portion along with soggy vegtables. Wouldn't go back for food, maybe drinks.
Great drinks and atmosphere. Menu seemed limited and concise.
Delicious food at prices you'd expect for downtown, i.e., $10 for soup. Had special of lobster quiche and frisee salad, both delicious and the quiche was a hefty portion 2" thick. General ambience is old school bar, think heavy wood and mirrors. Waitstaff was efficient and personalable. Noise level is loud at lunch, not the place to have an intimate conversation.
great creative food takes pub food up multiple levels, excellent service
The food was mediocre, the steak and burger okay but the half chicken was dry and the gnocchi was without texture or taste. Service was ok.
Glad we were in a quiet corner!
Nice spot for post work meet up but the food and service were nothing memorable. I had the roasted chicken with kale and fingerling potatoes. It’s was average at best...something my Mom would of prepared. Potatoes showed signs of heat-lamp exposure and chicken could have been more juicy.
Perfect dinner experience. Food was delectable; staff was engaging and attentive.
Overall the food was interesting and flavorful, portion sizes just right. Service was excellent. I enjoyed the noisy, happy hour ambiance. My only less than favorable comment is about the roasted beet salad. The presentation was lovely but the beets tasted like they had been boiled instead of roasted.
Came here for a drink and apps with coworkers after worker.. while drinks were good they could be a little stronger. I asked the waitress if they measured and they do.
Chicken wings were delicious and the gnocchi was very good. Artichokes were just ok and not worth the price at all... service was great, they accommodated our group of 6 as we made the reservations for a group of 4.
The martinis were a bit strange and served in a champagne glass, which kind of ruined things. The food was good, the service was excellent, and I liked the atmosphere.
They put us by the open windows on a beautiful day. It was a great spot. Food was solid, liked the option of green beans as a side for a sandwich. Definitely recommend
Great find for lunch before Sunday show at Opera House. Great spot for large parties too! Nice bar. Live jazz brunch.
A convenient place to eat when you're downtown and forgot to make a reservation for Pabu.
First time at Merchant; the food was yummy, the service was terrific and we will definitely visit again... and recommend!!!
The last two times I came, the food was amazing and I kept talking to friends about it, but this last time the food wasn't that great even though I ordered the same thing. Even my drink was watery. I'm not sure I'll be back, which is sad because I was really excited about this place. They must have inconsistent chefs or something.
I had never been to The Merchant before, but was looking for a place to dine before the theater and thought I'd try it out. I liked the look of the place when I walked in. The bar area was packed with an after work crowd. Kristina M., the server I had, was great. She was very attentive. Dining alone, I appreciated that.
I had the Butternut Squash Salad which was delicious. Also loved he Jean Luc Columbo Rose - thought it was excellent. I tried the burger, but that was a mistake. The inside of the roll was burnt as was the bacon. The burger was way too well done, but that may have been my fault as I ordered it medium well; I always order it medium well, but this one seemed overcooked.
Would I return? Maybe.
Our waiter Tom was very attentive yet not intrusive. The food was fresh and the ambiance was fun and relaxing.
Two of us ate there on a Saturday night. Waitstaff and hosts were great and attentive. Enjoyed the charcuterie and cheese plate as an appraiser. Also had a few oysters which were delicious and reasonably priced. For dinner had the mixed green salad and the pork ribs. The pork rib serving was larger than I was expecting and delicious. The salad was mixed greens tossed with a vinaigrette with some fried onion on top, and was also large and delicious (you would only need one to split between two, or probably even four people). My wife had the gnocchi w/out mushrooms and the warm artichoke hearts which were both also quite tasty without being super heavy. This place would be great to go to with a medium sized group and eat "family style" from their appraiser, small plate, and salad menu. The beer selection was also spectacular (Lawson's Sip of Sunshine on draft when I was there). Overall it was the perfect start to a great evening.
The food is absolutely terrible. We ordered a charcuterie board and it was legit spam on a plate w two pieces of bread. The chessboard was also sooo dry
Excellent service and food. Came here for Valentines Dinner with my boyfriend and had a fantastic time. Would recommend!
the day boat scallops were cooked to perfection - many restaurants will over cook them - these were delicious! waiter was very pleasant - we'll come back for sure
This was my second visit to The Merchant and just as good, if not better than, the first. The food here is delicious, the drinks creative and yummy, and the atmosphere fun. The gnocchi melts in your mouth.
You know, the food is generally better ... I had a Cobb Salad ... and, really, what can you do with that? But, it was just average. Usually the food is "fit for foodies." But the service was really quite good!
My mother and I had brunch at the Merchant before seeing Love Never Dies at the Boston Opera House. We both loved it! The service was excellent and the food was incredibly delicious. The atmosphere could not have been nicer with a jazz band playing in the background. I would highly recommend visiting this restaurant and will be returning on my next trip to Boston!
The food was fantastic and a great way to introduce a friend to local New England food.
Great beer list. Food was outstanding and came out quickly.
Terrific atmosphere with great food and drinks
Kale salad with chicken was great, service was quick, and friendly
Food was decent but the service was terrible. The hostess and our waiter were both extremely rude and unfriendly.
We were there on a quite Saturday. They were very nice to us and the food was good too. Our waitress was very willing to give us specific recommendations which we really appreciated. And, we both remarked at how incredibly clean the bathrooms were. We surely will be back.
Outstanding service and food was excellent!
Waitress seemed completely uninterested in us all night. Really no attempt to help us with the menu etc. Overpriced and mediocre menu for Overpriced food
It gets super loud here. Be ready to yell across your table! Food is always very fresh and everything is tasty on the menu, especially the burger.
Excellent service, food, and beverage selection.
Very tasty food at very good prices. All things are made in-house, like bacon, charcuterie, etc.
Recommend trying specials as they are on point with food in season.
We were there for our daughter’s birthday lunch. She works a short distance away and only had a limited amount of time. Two of us ordered the burger, one the croque madame and one Greek wrap. NO LEFTOVERS!
Also a lovely chocolate mousse with a candle was brought out and that was a lovely touch and finish to a great lunch.
