Wonderful food and excellent service!
Outstanding food and service; very pleasant experience. We’ll be back
Had a delicious brunch here with my family--the eggs Benedict were a fun twist on the classic, and everyone enjoyed their meal. Friendly, attentive service as well.
Best brunch in Boston with great music and ambiance
Consistently good food and service. This was out 3rd visit to The Merchant
It is always a fantastic meal at The Merchant. I have never been disappointed in any way. Been there with one friend and a larger group. Always great for Lunch and dinner!!!
The food was delicious. The service was great.
Very poor Valentines dinner. Stuck in back room with 6 tables. Starters not cleared before entrees brought. Burger black and burnt on outside but raw on inside...dreadful quality. Battered shrimp overcooked and inedible. Manager agreed food quality not good....we left, hungry and not charged for meal or drinks. Our only bad meal in 5 nights stay in Boston.
It is close by and pretty popular, so it is a good place for a business meeting, but the food is so-so, and it's kind of noisy.
Still, for a business meeting, you aren't going for the food.
Great food, substantial drink menu. The Espresso Martini is a must try!
Same old Merchant (in a good way). A tad more expensive than I want it to be but good food and very solid draft list.
Service was fast and great. We had limited time as we needed to make a show. We told our server and she made sure everything came out fast. We left with plenty of time to make the show. Food was excellent as well!
Merchant is usually my go-to but they miffed my order this time. It was late and the steak was not cooked to order. They brought me a nice dessert to make up for it, but I don't eat dessert. Would have been better to comp or discount the meal. They are consistently good, however, so I won't judge them on this last visit.
I love the Merchant! Delicious food and tasty cocktails. Whenever I go to a show at the Opera House, I always make sure to bring my crew to The Merchant and we have never had any issues. I cannot say enough great things about this place!
Met friends for lunch and it was a perfect spot. The server was excellent and the lunch options just right. I had the pulled pork special sandwich of the day and it was delicious.
Great location for a quick work lunch with colleagues in a relaxed atmosphere. Good food, good service!
As always, amazing food and service!
Always a hit when coming with a friend, client or COI.
The staff were welcoming and table staff efficient and pleasant. The menu has solid standard fare and alternative, health options too. We dined early on a Sat so the vibe was quiet.
Had New Year's Day brunch here, so probably a little different than on a regular day. Food was great. Service was a bit on the slow side as far as our food coming out. Our waitress was great as far as making sure drinks and water glasses were full. There was an Irish folk band playing which was a nice added touch.
Sat at the bar, took a while for a bartender to come take our food order. Tuna carpaccio was delicious, but my chicken dish was very bland and unappetizing looking
Friends in from out of state and it was a good centeal spot. ALWAYS good quality on the food and great service!! One of my favorite spots downtown. Highly recommended.
Was served in a timely manner considering it was the holidays and noise level was also normal for the holidays with everyone's excitement.
Went to a late dinner after the Nutcracker. Restaurant was nearly empty (a Sunday night), but we never felt rushed or uncomfortable because staff was welcoming and friendly. Our server was great and gave good suggestions. Drinks and food were delicious and better than expected. We will be back!
We dined here after a matinee Christmas show, as it was near our hotel and had an extensive beer list. We had made reservations, but it was pretty quiet. One of us got a draft Jack's Abbey and the other got a nice Malbec. We had salads, steak frites and the grilled pork chop. All were really excellent. Service was attentive without being intrusive.
The Merchant was recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. The menu is selective, yet there is something for everyone. Every morsel from the cheese/meat platters to the creatively inspired main courses (and even the burger) were delectable. Service was top notch and we could carry on a conversation in the crowded dining room. We have already shared our experience with friends and will return soon.
Ambiance and service were great...food was fine but nothing special.
Good thing we had a luncheon reservation, the place was packed! Server noted it was extra busy due to holiday season. Prompt service, excellent waitress. Food was very good, albeit basic: tasty tuna melt and Caesar chicken salad with chicken. Will definitely return.
Horrible service, food was awful- chicken was brown and the restaurant was freezing cold. Won’t be back.
Great meal, excellent service. I’m glad I made a reservation because the place was packed. Can’t wait to make it out there again.
Fun atmosphere, good drinks, and quick service
This has always been a consistent spot for me but this time it really wasn't up to par. The server was very aloof and unavailable (there were only about 5 tables with customers). We had been sitting for about 10 minutes before he came over and said "sorry I didn't see you waiting here". Drinks took another 15 minutes or so. Ordered a cheese plate and he never told us what was on it (one member of party has an allergy).
Overall food was great, I love the ambiance. Maybe he was just having an off night.
My friend and I had a great time! We enjoyed our meals and the noise level was moderate.
The food was very good. The server was knowledgeable and agreeable although he disappeared a couple of times during our dinner so overall the service was a irregular. The place was very busy on a Friday night and quite loud with the bar area packed.
First time here to celebrate a girlfriend birthday two weeks ago on a Friday night at 5 p.m. First impression, this place was hopping and had an incredible energy especially coming from the bar, yet we can still hear us talk. Love it! For drinks, I ordered the Merlot from Josh Cellars (listed in their menu) and liked it as it is not acidity and slightly sweet. My friend had the white wine and seemed to like it. We shared an appetizer the Tuna Carpaccio and we both thought it was excellent. For the main course, I had the Steak Frites and my friend went for another appetizer the Ricotta Gnocchi. The steak was cooked to a perfection medium pink and the fries were very good, but my girlfriend wasn't too crazy with her Gnocchi said it was kind of bland. We share a dessert (a tart of some sort) filled with blue berries and we liked it. Attentive service although the food came out a bit slow; however, it was barely noticeable due to the vibrancy of the place and we girls had a lot to catching up to! Lite b-day candle on dessert as requested. Wonderful restaurant, reservation a must!
Very good food selection and service! Wine beer list was good too
This was the best meal we had during our 4 night stay in Boston. The Ramen was amazing! Atmosphere was just great. The margarita and the mail thai were delicious. Service was excellent. My only regret is not trying it sooner!
The Merchant is conveniently located in Downtown Boston. While the atmosphere is charming, it was too dark to read the menu at dinner time without light from cell phones. That being said, the service and food were excellent.
Brent was a great server, attentative and professional. I would go back again.
The food was excellent and prepared just beautifully.
Great place! Great cocktails wide selection of craft beer small plates or full meal
I was very disappointed with our evening at Merchant as we come here often to dine because of the food and atmosphere. However, our most recent experience was a letdown. We had reservations and were seated immediately; at a small table next to the restrooms and as it was a crowded night, our table was bumped into frequently by frenzied staff and patrons squeezing through. Our food came out quickly; the chicken was overcooked, the broccolini was withered and burnt, and the rice tasted like a pre-packaged box mix. All of this arrived with our salad (which we had hoped to have before dinner) and was wilted and tasteless. I truly hope is a one time experience as normally Merchant has been good.
