Great vibe and terrific food. Service was impeccable and love the atmosphere. Great place to enjoy dinner before the theater in Hell's Kitchen
I was really impressed with her experience at the meatball shop. We had a large group with varying dietary needs and the attentive staff make sure everyone was well taken care of. everything was delicious, even the non-meatball options, and we will definitely be back! Our only complaint is it gets a little noisy but in New York, that’s really difficult to counteract.
Two of our party of 6 had been to the Meatball Shop before, so we were looking forward to our dinner. Unfortunately the menu changed since the last time we were there, no more pick your balls, pasta, and sauce ☹️. Waiter didn’t get our order right and he was difficult to locate when we wanted him to correct the mistake. location was very loud. Difficult to have a conversation. Unfortunately we were disappointed with this meal.
From the outside looking in, it looks like it would be typically NYC crowded between tables and loud, but we were seated in this fantastic back room which was quiet and spacious and had a movie playing on a big screen. Totally unexpected! I would request that space any time I eat there. The menu is not typical (a good thing) and servers were nice and knowledgeable and able to make recommendations about how to navigate it, depending on how much food we wanted, and whether or not we planned to share. Prices extremely reasonable for New York. This will definitely be added to the rotation of our affordable, quick, pre-theatre restaurants.
Made a reservation for 6 people. They sat us in the far back of the restaurant and it was so hard have a conversation because it was so noisy. Unless the people in the middle of the table we’re talking you couldn’t hear anything except the super loud music. Funny thing is the front of the restaurant was an acceptable noise level. Too bad it was too busy to be relocated.
Everything was delicious.
Tasty meatballs but too much sauce on the pasta by a lot. But if that's the way you like it this place is perfect!
Delicious food! We’ll be back
Their Mac and cheese was delicious. I had the eggplant parmigiana as well and it was very good. For dessert I had the oatmeal raisin cookie with the butter cream cheese ice cream with a different bottom cookie of snickerdoodle to complete the sandwich and all I can say is yummmmyyyy!!!
I’ve been a long time lover of the Meatball Shop and dined at all locations over the years. Started at the original in the Village. Was thrilled when one opened UES. Even tried UWS and also love the HK location now that I live on 50th Street. But the menu has changed.
I loved the unique ordering with the menu and dry-erase markers. It was a special menu with awesome ways to try the meatballs. It was easy to understand. And I brought first time diners in all the time who’d get the schpeel on the menu. I was obsessed with the kitchen sink salad. I’d always order it with chicken balls and pesto.
I work at a bar in the neighborhood and we get a lot of tourists. They’d frequently ask me where they should go for dinner. I always recommended The Meatball Shop. I’m not going to anymore. This new menu change is disappointing. The tables are too small to change to a sharing menu “tapas” style. My favorite salad is gone. There’s no option to select one ball in sauce to try just one.
We ordered the Brussels sprout salad. It was too salty. We ordered 3 special pizza balls in pesto. I wasn’t sure if the balls were cooked all the way thru. And we ordered a couple of sides. It was difficult to maneuver the plates with our bottle of wine and bottle of water.
Within my disappointment I asked the server if you still did the fun Jell-O shots. He said you do. And we talked about dessert. But the way he described it, it only sounded like there was one cookie option and servers different ice cream flavors. I wasn’t blown away by the option for an oatmeal cookie. So we didn’t order my favorite dessert. We paid, left a 22% tip and finished our bottle of wine.
We overheard the hostess tell the table next to us that they could pick out 2 free Jello-O shots. The word free rang out over and over. They didn’t really want them, but if they were free, the why not? Felt like a slap in the face after we just spent $125 for a 2top and weren’t special.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Poor service, slow, messed up my order. Changed the menu yet again, and 15 dollar salad that was tiny.
First time dining at the Meatball Shop. Enjoyed the layout of the menu and variety of meatballs, base and sauces. Service was good. Neat little place and do recommend 😊
WE LOVE THE MEATBALL SHOP! Every time we're in NYC we track one down. It never disappoints!
We’ve been there several times & loved it! Had friends visiting so we thought we’d go back. They recently changed the menu and didn’t enjoy the options as much. Liked being able to create your own bowls with different meatballs & bases. Plus they took off the lobster meatballs which we really liked too.
I have loved the Meatball Shop for years. It’s been one of my favorite restaurant/bars in NY, but they have made some changes recently that were really disappointing. A month ago I would have gone 5 stars down the line, but this visit was truly mediocre. I don’t think I’ll be going back anytime soon.
Great service and great food.
Great casual dinner, good value. Where the locals eat.
The food here is consistently delicious, and you can't beat the price. Also, the a la carte menu allows you to get a delicious meal with sides and still avoid carbs if you want to. Highly recommended!
Great comfort food... we always bring visitors to this spot. I had classic spaghetti and meatballs and it was delicious! The service was good and ambiance was light and fun. Will definitely be back!
Cute little place in a good location. Amazing food!! The meatballs are THE best!!
I’ve been a vocal fan of The Meatball Shop since its start and was looking forward to bringing my teenager (a huge meatball fan) to the meatball Mecca, or so I thought. We ordered and our plates were put down in front of us *maybe* 3-4 minutes later. A) while I appreciate the expedited service, I did not realize I made reservations at a fast food restaurant and B) it quickly became apparent why our meatballs arrived so quickly: both plates of meatballs were lukewarm on the outside and icy cold in the middle. Also, these are not the meatballs I fell in love with at TMS. What happened to this place?!?
One more important note: do not bother ordering the kitschy “spaghetti & meatballs.” These are the meatballs that are “stuffed” with spaghetti and they are just a $24 plate of plain nasty.
I try to get back to the Meatball Shop every time I’m in NYC. The food and drinks are so good, and it’s always a good time. My only issue this time was we felt we were being rushed by the waitstaff. There were many free tables and they were still seating new guests, but my entire party felt like they were rushing us out the door. I was still eating my meal while they were clearing away the dishes from the other people at my table, which is normal, however, they were also asking what we wanted for desert while I still had a good amount of pasta left and had a mouthful of food. This seemed to continue until one of the people in the party told our waitstaff that we would order after everyone finished their meal. I’m not sure if this person was anxious to get cut for the evening, but it was uncomfortable. We would have stayed for another round of cocktails, but felt like we needed to leave. It was a big bummer.
Simply but tasty - not overly expensive. Would recommend to anyone!!
