The burger is GREAT. The schnitzel is HUGE so you might want to share it. Cocktails are strong.
Fantastic meal. We had a large group. Loved the feel of the place, the staff - but most importantly the food! Everything was delicious! Even my picky eaters left happy.
Our food is always fresh, organic, and fabulous at this restaurant. We frequent the Sunday brunch as well as dinner date night, and think this is one of the best restaurants in San Antonio.
This was our 2nd visit to Maverick, though our first brunch visit. We arrived at 10:30, shortly after opening and needed to modify the number in our party - staff was very accommodating! Ambiance at Maverick is great - relaxed and comfortable, and our service as excellent (sorry I missed our waitress’s name). Good Bloody Mary though a bit heavy on the Worcestershire for my taste. I had the crab omelette-light and fluffy with good flavors, but it seemed a bit light on both the crab and Humboldt Fog cheese. My wife had the duck confit hash with poached eggs. Very nice presentation, great flavor, but again seemed a bit light on the duck in the dish. Overall we enjoyed the brunch and give Maverick 4 stars for the brunch experience.
Excited to try this new spot in Southtown/King William district.
I will say that the space, the food, and the overall energy are great BUT all of that was overshadowed by the tragic service we received. We were not seated where we requested and what should have been a nice, leisurely dinner reasonably paced to last roughly 90 mins took almost 2 1/2 hours by the time we finally got the check and left.
Our reservation was for 6:30 pm. It was almost 7:00 pm before we were even asked for our drink order and received our drinks from the bar (and we only ordered three beers on tap - nothing complicated); our server was not very adept at reading the table for timing. He took entirely too long to check in on our table during the evening, although he was constantly in the immediate area.
It was another 15-20 mins (so seated for 45mins at this point) before we even got the appetizers ORDERED and by then realized we needed to get EVERYTHING ordered while he was there if we were going to get anywhere, not knowing when he would return. At one point when he was near enough to hear but not actually checking on our table to see if we needed anything, I had to ask for another drink; when he brought that he removed the empty glass of one of the other diners without asking if she would like anything else - just took the glass and left.
The food, as it arrived, was VERY GOOD. I will say, the only unfortunate item during the dinner service was a broken dinner plate. When one of the entree's was placed on the table, the plate cracked straight in half...and when we could get our server's attention, instead of removing the broken plate to the kitchen to re-plate the entree again, he just brought a new plate to the table and left it for us to move food from one dish to another.
I will dine here again as I feel the service we received is NOT a reflection of the restaurant but exclusively that of our server and his lack of multi-tasking prowess.
Really wonderful experience. Has to be the best meal we’ve had in our year here in San Antonio. The meal was exquisite and the service was just wonderful, it made our night being surrounded by a great service team. Great value and great wine. Beautifully designed interior and all the guests were respectful of everyone there and kept their conversations quiet and low. We’ll definitely be going back.
We had a fantastic meal and the service was seamless and friendly. I love this place for lunch, happy hour and dinner.
Delicious food, great wine list and lively atmosphere. The gougeres and the French fries and green beans with shishito peppers were wonderful.
Kale salad had interesting flavors but too much salt
Striped bass had iodine taste and little to no seasoning
Cauliflower was good and so was salmon appetizer
This was my first and only experience with Maverick. I chose to try this restaurant based on positive on-line reviews. This was a special occasion (my wife's birthday) and we were on our way to a show at the Majestic. I was excited to try the crispy duck which is a favorite of mine but hadn't had in a couple of years. Unfortunately, the duck at Maverick was hugely disappointing! It was actually the worst duck I've every had. The thighs weren't bad but the rest of the duck, including the breast which was the more significant portion of the meal, was chewy and under cooked. It was also one of the more expensive items on the menu. When I expressed my disappointment to the waiter, he just said "sorry about that" but didn't offer to address the situation further. In addition, very little was made of the fact our visit that evening was for a special occasion. So disappointing! I will definitely not be going to Maverick again and will not recommend this restaurant to others.
Server was knowledgeable about the menu and nicely attentive. We are always very happy each time we come to visit!
Just a great experience. My date and I really enjoyed our meal and our cocktails. Highly recommend!
Second visit to Maverick. Every bite was excellent both times. Service was the best we’ve had in a long while at top restaurants. Will be regular visitors to Maverick.
Wonderful meal. Our server , Edgar, did a great job!
I had the schnitzel and my husband had the fish. Wonderful meal and perfect service!
Beautiful restaurant with great food and amazing ambiance
Our entrees, both fish and beef, were excellent. Having two sizes for each entrée was another good feature. Service was also great, including not clearing plates until all four of us were finished. That policy is rare in virtually any restaurant today and is a hallmark of traditional service. I even complimented the server and he said, yes, that was the rule and he understood why. The size of the pieces of carrot cake were on a bit small but that just meant we had to order two for the table because it was also great.
We will be back!
Food was excellent. Service was a bit slow. Upon arrival, we indicated to our waitress that we NEEDED to be finished by a certain time. We ordered promptly, but our entrees arrived so late that we needed to rush and still left the restaurant 15 minutes later than we wanted. This caused our party to miss the opening of the show we had hoped to be on time for. Again, great food, but not very accommodating for tight schedules (75 minutes).
Great food and service.
First time for us. Got reservations for a Sunday night hoping it would be an enjoyable evening. Food was amazing and many items on the menu we want to try on our next visit. Service was very good until it started getting busy. Surprised for a Sunday night but by the time we were served our meal it had filled up. That is when the service really slowed down. We had to ask another server for the desert menu and once we ordered it was a real long time in getting the coffee and desert. Had to catch the managers eye to ask for the bill so we could leave. So recommend going early or luck out and get a slow night, because staff really falls behind when they get busy. All being said, we had a great meal and it is an interesting place so we will return.
Everything we ordered, including bloody Mary's, Brown-butter-brioche doughnut(!), and duck confit were marvelous. Our servers were attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. I highly recommend The Maverick.
Nice restaurant we were seated at a great table. Our waiter was very helpful with our selections . Our food was just as ordered
One of the most amazing dining experiences I've ever had.
Excellent dinning experience. Great atmosphere, friendly staff with very attentive wait staff. My wife had a fish dish which she raves about and I had the whole crispy duck which was both tender and tasted fantastic. We had broussel sprouts, red cabbage and their root vegetables. All were excellent. We did not have wine but they have an extensive offering. I highly recommend Maverick. We will definitely dine there again.
Brought in a business associate from NYC for dinner .... he loved the place 👍
This upscale brasserie in the heart of downtown San Antonio has a menu that will please any palate and a wine list to match. Perfect for special occasions, date night, or impressing out-of-towners.
Great evening. Menu was excellent and the food and service outstanding. Thanks!
Slow service, slow to get food out, and felt there was inconsistency with plates.
I wanted to love this restaurant but the waiter we had was very inaccessible and we waited a long time for service. We finally had to get a bartender or hostess to take our order. Dinner Menu items were interesting and appetizing looking but fell a little short. I would try again just to see if overall experience is better next time.
Thank you, Maverick Texas Brasserie! We enjoyed a FABULOUS evening - everything was PERFECTION from beginning to end. Absolute best location for a small family celebration - impeccable cuisine - fantastic flavors - flawless presentation - extensive wine list - posh and cozy ambiance - attentive and knowledgeable wait staff - courteous and helpful valets and hosts - sparkling stem and glassware - polished and beautifully set table - smoothly run establishment with a modern vibe and casual relaxed energy. Five Star experience. Will definitely return upon next visit to San Antonio!
Some dishes were very good, others were tasteless. Service was excellent. Beautiful restaurant.
It was our second time there and we took a couple from out of town and they loved it.
Was a great girls night out! We ordered a little bit of everything!
Great experience!! Our waiter was very knowledgeable and made some great recommendations.
The restaurant is very impressive. The design is well suited for date night or large parties. The food, service and ambiance were more than expected. The only down fall is parking, just valet it is work the 7 dollars.
Excellent menu and food. Great ambiance and vibe
We’ve been to Maverick at least 5 times ... each time hoping service has improved. Each time ... it takes an hour before our entree arrives. My steak was good, “crispy” French fries were soggy, wife’s salad was good and her pasta entree was extremely salty.
We will continue to hope things get better because we like the location.
Thoroughly enjoyed the meal at Maverick. The schnitzel was huge & delicious. I would recommend splitting with another or bring home the leftovers. Drinks were terrific & the dessert was awesome.
Good service but sometimes an unforgiving chef with special requests. Can put a damper on things.
