Great food, attentive service, nice wine list. The whole duck was fantastic!
Food is excellent. Our waiter was a very nice person and engaging. However, timeliness of receiving drinks and meals dragged way too long. Further, when asked to be moved because of intense sunlight and lack of shade in a mostly empty restaurant, we were met with strong resistance from staff with baffling explanations that the other tables were “reserved”. It’s a new restaurant and I’m sure they’ll work out the kinks.
This has become our favorite place to eat. The food is consistently good and we never feel hurried. Great place to go out to spend an evening.
Food was great, but everything seemed to be slow. Both seating with a reservation, and drinks from the bar took a long time. Beautiful space, and waiter was very friendly.
Service was great that evening. The bar seems more imaginative than the kitchen.
Our food was exceptional and our waiter Doug and the rest of the staff bent over backwards to make sure everything was perfect.
We give The Maverick 5 stars!
We were so excited to give this place a try because we had heard so many wonderful things. The service was very slow- lots of people working, but the wait for anything needed was longer than necessary. My food was great, however it was only soup/salad. My husband ordered their special for the evening. Everything came out cold. The prime rib was average, the potato was served plain- was hard in the center and cold to the touch. Even the dessert was cold to the touch. They were also out of several things but did not tell us until after we ordered. They would go off and come back later saying they didn’t have it. Overall not impressed.
Amazinh food, ambiance and service!!! Maverick has become one of my top favorite restaurants in the city. Get the mussels!
Cold fries, slow service, expensive wine list. Pleasant waitress, Fun ambience, probably worth a second visit.
Everything ala carte, so that adds to the cost.
Great drinks and overall good food. Very slow getting tables seated (seemed to be communication issues with the hostesses). Recommend sitting on the patio. Would recommend the place overall for drinks and appetizers and the atmosphere.
While the food was good, I didn't have anything that was remarkable. The portions are respectable, the wine selection is nice, the bar is relatively well-stocked, the prices are fine. To be honest the reason this wasn't a 5-star experience was that everything took a really, really long time. We arrived around 7:45PM and our table of 6 people wasn't done eating until almost 10PM. If you're into a long dining experience (anniversary, date night, etc) then this shouldn't be an issue for you at all.
If you are looking for a creative menu, lovely atmosphere, and good food, Maverick is a wonderful new option in San Antonio. The staff was extremely attentive and knowledgeable and the evening was relaxed and more enjoyable as a result. Thanks for a lovely evening.
Another outstanding dining experience. My new favorite restaurant in SA!
Great menu and great ambiance!! Love the restaurant!
First of all the ambiance and style ofnthe restaurant set the mood for the overall experience. I went during brunch and ordered the salmon with cream cheese on a bagel - perfection. I also ordered a bloody Mary which was spot on! Their sweet dough balls were ok but the jam served with them was more memorable. I'll definitely be back for dinner.
Lovely food and service
Our waitress, I believe her name was Kendra was amazing. She gave us suggestions which we took and it was amazing! The pork schnitzel and green chili Mac is a must!
Everything was great except bar service before... we waited forever for our drinks while we were waiting for our table. The manager came over and got right on it so we appreciated that! Meal after that was great!
would love to see Vegan options in the menu. Im a vegetarian and prefer to not consume any anomaly products, but will make exceptions with butter
Outstanding fine dining experience! Service, atmosphere and food were excellent.
Second time at Maverick. Took 3 friends for the first time. They all loved it. We are within walking distance, so this will become a regular hangout. Thanks to Winnie Mac for always making us feel welcome.
First time. Loved the menu and there were several things we wanted to order. We went with the special of the day and loved the Tuesday special! Will definitely go back!!
They grill steak well, plus have a good variety of vegetable items to compliment the grilled items. Modern decor with a touch of Texas!
Not at all impressed with the food. I had high expectations and was very disappointed. Steak was fatty and had pieces of gristle. $7 for a couple pieces of bread. No side salad to order with my meal. Server never asked if we were satisfied with meal. Would definitely not go back.
Maverick was our favorite dinner in San Antonio during the Final Four tournament. Way better than anything on the Riverwalk
Food was excellent. Server was excellent however the kitchen was slow. Had to wait almost an hour for our entrees.
Very impressed ! Only open less then two months but when they get the service figured out it will be awesome ! Good job !
I think eventually this will be a great dining scene. It's not there yet. The service is spotty and the staff needs more training. Our dinner was served before appetizers were removed. Entrees were not hot and served on appetizer plates. Food portions are small but tasty.
Interesting and diverse menu. Food was excellent. The prickly pear mimosas are delicious too.
We decided on Maverick for Easter brunch because we wanted to try a new restaurant. Maverick has a slick, clean atmosphere with that urban industrial feeling that is so chic today. For what it is worth, I felt cooler for eating there. From the beginning our waiter demonstrated a solid understanding of the menu and a willingness to find answers for some of our more unusual questions. We ordered the pastry basket and an order of biscuits to start. The pastries were moist and tasty but not truly "special". The biscuit was also very good but just short of exceptional. I had a burger with fries. The fries were the best thing I ate that day. Hand cut and double fried...and if they were not they still tasted that way. The burger had good flavor, though the bun was a tad thick for my taste. It was surprisingly soft. My wife ordered the steak frites. Lately my wife has been disappointed with her steaks, but she raved about the Maverick steak from her first bite. We definitely will be back to try the full menu.
I had brunch this time and the food was amazing as always. Usually the music has been terrible in here but this time it was so good, much more lively. They must've read my earlier reviews, no more elevator music. Keep up the great work ! My new favorite place in town.
Went for brunch on Sunday - food was amazing and loved the decor. Cute patio will be fun in spring and summer time.
Visiting San Antonio & enjoyed Sunday brunch at Maverick. Staff was very friendly and professional. Food was high quality, delicious and far and away better than anything we had in the more crowded Riverwalk area. Very reasonably priced for the great service & meal. Would go back.
The wine list was very nice and included some uncommon but excellent selections. The food was delicious and imaginative. The service was also great.
Really excellent...a great new discovery
Fantastic meal, great service, get the mixed grill. Will definitely be returning soon. They have a great happy hour also.
Server was in training but was much more enthusiastic and friendly then the person training her. Had a reservation and still had to wait 20+ minutes despite many tables being open. When sat, was great table and menu was interesting. Had amazing octopus/calamari, pasta was a disappointment, drinks good, dessert was good as well. It's a new place, needs to be a bit more polished if offering food for these prices. NO PARKING? That needs to be clearly communicated upon reservation.
Incredible food, friendly service and a great atmosphere - the trifecta of dining!
I made a reservation and we arrived early so the hostess checked us in. When it was time for our reservation they took up to 10 minutes to seat us. We did not want to be seated outside or in direct sun. She was also very rude about this. When we were finally seated we waited for 15 minutes and our waiter never came to our table. I had to stop another waitress to get service. When our waitress finally showed up she was not attentive and never checked in on us.
Hostess was rude and server kept mixing up sparking water with flat. Food temp was warm and taste ok.
