great food and atmosphere! Love this new place!
Food and service easily the best in town. These people will stop at nothing to please you.
Relaxed and unhurried atmosphere.
It was bomb
Winnie and her team especially Joseph our server ,were abosolutely Outstanding!!.
The service was superb even though our food was slightly tardy. The tardiness was made up with a sincere explanational apology and complimentary appetizers. The attention to detail was noteworthy, the managers and staff worked in synchronicity with each other to make sure no customer was neglected. They ambience was soothing and the entire building, including the restrooms, patio were orderly clean and elegant. A patron broke a glass on a nearby table, and not even a 20 seconds transpired before the glass was expeditiously removed and the atmosphere hardly disturbed. The food was cooked to perfection, dessert was fabulous and each item was presented in a delectably magnificent fashion. The bartenders are supreme experts in their craft. Each drink was precisely hand crafted and flavorful with exquisiteness. This was my second time visiting Maverick, the first time after opening 2 weeks without a reservation, but we were accommodated on the patio with a wonderful menu and service.
I highly recommend Maverick to everyone in Texas and I will be returning soon.
This was our second time for dinner. While our first experience wasn’t the best (forgotten orders) we decided for a second try since they’ve only just opened. Food was absolutely delicious & drinks are just as savory. My only complaint was our waiter. We seemed to be overlooked due to a friend of a kitchen staff being seated next to us. It was a struggle to get his attention & really did put a damper on our experience. Being neighbors we really have high hopes for this restaurant & have made reservations for their brunch. Third times a charm, hopefully the service will be better.
Beautiful dining experience. Will definitely come back again.
The pork confit and mixed grill were outstanding and service top notch!! We were in San Antonio on vacation and this restaurant was a five minute walk from our hotel. I would highly recommend you try it!!
Drew was a very good waiter. Gnocchi, mixed plate with mushrooms, lemon tart and apple tart were all scrumptious!
Maverick was a nice surprise. I'm always a little apprehensive when dining at a restaurant for the first time. The restaurant is elegant, not overbearing. Smooth wall colors and nice table settings. It's possible to admire part of the wine cellar from the restaurant. The wine list is attractive but I found the good Ribera del Duero and Rioja wines a little overpriced. The wine list has been taught with the menu in mind. You would be able to match the beautiful rotisserie chicken and the octopus with the calamari appetizer - which I had - with a young Syrah from the Upper Rhon Valley and refreshing Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc. You should try it. The service is polite and professional.
First time at this trendy new restaurant. Food was great! Our server was the relatable 'best friend' type and was attentive and helpful. We had appetizers, entrees and desserts on date night. The schnitzel was really good!
The food was good but not great enough for the prices. If you’re going to charge that much for a piece of fish or a filet of beef at least add a small salad or some slices of veggies for the visual aspect. I think this restaurant will improve as tome goes on. For now I would come to sit outside and share some small plates.
Our group loved the ambiance, wine list, and incredible food. The only small oversight was that the one salad dinner was served well after the rest of the plates.
The food was excellent but the wait times and service dragged our overall experience down. One drink was forgotten and the server was nowhere to be found so it took 30 minutes to finally get the drink, 45 minutes to get appetizers, and another hour after that for the entrees. In the middle we rarely saw our server and ran out of water. However, the food was solid. I think we’ll give them another several months to get the service/timing kinks worked out before returning.
Loved the menu. I had the Cassoulet and my wife the Schnitzel. We loved the entrees. First rate experience. We were early...5PM table but made the 7PM curtain call at the Tobin. We will be back!
EAT THE BROWN BUTTER BRIOCHE DONUTS for brunch. It will change your life.
We enjoyed our first visit to this new restaurant. A pleasant surprise for us that our waiter was familiar to us from another establishment. Great place, food, and service. Looking forward to our next dining experience here.
Really neat space, transformed from boring storefronts. Most attentive staff, fun and varied menus, neat drink offerings, and all of the orders well executed- appetizers, pastas, proteins, and neat sides. Wishing many successful years in the spot
The Maverick is a MUCH needed addition to the San Antonio dining scene. This restaurant offers innovative, good tasting food, imaginative cocktails, a top notch wine list and a great environment.
we really enjoyed our experience at this restaurant, great food, interesting concept.
Beautiful place but waiter misled friend on salmon (indicated it was medium, and fish was raw), my pork chop was bland, beer took quite a while to get to table. Was just an OK experience.
It was our Anniversary. We were positioned in the rear of the back room. Plenty of activity but quiet enough to have pleasant conversation. Our server was a Wonderful describer of the food and how it was prepared. Food came our hot and great presentation. We shared the tenderloin and three vegetables. Taste was great. The wine steward/co-owner came by and we visited. Like hime. Also had dessert, which we seldom do. The Profiteroles and cheesecake were over the top. Thanks for the evening experience for our 15th Anniversary.
Chris, is cooking perfection, Josh the sommelier, is knowledgable and attentive.
In sum, this is the spot of recent in San Antonio. Great food, great wine. Dont be afraid to drink the old world stuff and leave the american wine for ruth chris.
Absolutely the best restaurant in San Antonio. Loved everything about it from Miguel who greeted us, Chrystal who seated us, Adam who was a phenomenal waiter and the owner who actually was also having dinner this was a superb experience!
Excellent service, great food, wonderful atmosphere. Definitely will return soon!
Lovely atmosphere with a great vibe for dinner. The quality of food and portion size was impressive for the price. Our server was trying too hard to sell items before asking what our preferences were, which took up a lot of time. Service wasn't bad, but overall service could've been better with little details like giving serving spoons with sides, refilling water and being more aware of dietary restrictions. Dined with a different server a few days later and wasn't disappointed.
A must visit for those who want to enjoy a nice and upbeat dinner with friends.
My husband and I went for our 19th anniversary. Everything about the experience was top notch. The food, the cocktails, the atmosphere, and the service were all better than we expected. I can't wait to go back!!
Visiting San Antonio for business, we found this place on OpenTable. It's new, but really outstanding for a beautiful interior, creative menu options, and really well-informed and helpful staff. If I lived in SA, I'd go there a lot. Well done!
We recently had dinner and drinks and were very offended by the bartender. My husband ordered an ‘old fashioned’. When asked what type of whiskey he’d like, he replied ‘Elijah Craig’. The bartender decided to use the 18 year old whiskey to make a mixed drink versus the standard one and not clarify. When the bill came, each drink was $30. That is insanity and highway robbery. This establishment should be ashamed of such practices!!!
We have been several times and each time we agree we will go back. The plate du jour is delicious and a great bargain.
Thank you Chris Carleson et al for this huge elevation to the food scene in San Antonio.
Music was terrible. Everything else was great
Love the ambiance, great round tables make it easy to keep the conversation going with a group. Service was excellent, food was delicious with a nice variety for the meat eaters, the vegetarians and even some nice choices for the vegans in our group! Would definitely recommend!
Ordered our steak medium rare. It came out rare. Barely cooked. So rubbery and none of the fat cooked. How can you feature steak on your menu and not know how to cook it. Also the vibe is very different from the front of the restaurant to the back. Seems segregated. Like two different restaurants. Front of the restaurant is way better. We were disappointed to be hidden in the back.
Our waiter was great! We had a nice quiet dining area all to ourselves for the majority of the meal. Steak and tenderloin were delicious as was the red snapper and bread!
Great food and knowledgeable friendly staff, prices are that of what the food is worth. My only complaint was the huge portion gap between some of the meals. Overall beautiful and tasty experience!
Maverick is a gem. It is a casually elegant restaurant with several dining rooms and a lovely patio. The restaurant has two bars - a long one inside and small one on the patio. They have some original mixed drinks, some old standards and a great wine list.
The food is delicious. Our table started with the cheese puffs (unbelievable). We also shared an order of gnocchi. The gnocchi was slightly browned and had a great potato and onion flavor. For our main course our table ordered the schnitzel (huge and lemony) and the peppered steak. The steak was cooked to perfection. For dessert we shared the chocolate mousse cake. Excellent!
I can’t say enough about this restaurant. Tim, our waiter, was incredible. We live in the neighborhood and will absolutely come back and be asking for Tim. We did a lot of the shared plates (crab cake sliders, salmon tartar, mussels, Lasagnette and bread basket) the chocolate mousse cake was incredible.
Birthday dinner and visiting from MN
Truly a wonderful first experience with this new restaurant. Gnocchi appetizer was fab. Breads were well done. Sauce on the schnitzel was unbelievable. We will be back!!!
Sorry to say we were unimpressed and apologetic to our out of town guest! The service was sub par, waiting at least 15 minutes for the waiter to take our drink order. The food was very over priced and very small portions! Condiments were a $4.00 up charge! Yes first time we ever paid for mayo! This will be a DNR for us!
Food was served too slow three hours total
