Maverick - Texas Brasserie
The food was ok. The French onion soup was best. If you want anything from the bar, prepare to wait at least 25 min. Our server spent the whole time chitchatting with other tables and we finally gave up on getting a drink or dessert. The whole place is a little pretentious and needs to get over itself. The food actually did come out in a good amount of time. Wish I’d had a drink to go with it.
I set up a reservation for a birthday dinner with the family. Waze apparently didn’t know where the front of the building was, but we found a place to park on the road behind the building and walked in. We were seated immediately, and I even got a birthday card signed by the staff. Our waitress was terrific, and even made a great recommendation for an affordable off-wine list wine that was spot on. Apps were terrific (I highly recommend the crab cake slider). The pace of the kitchen was fantastic; not too slow and not too fast. Entrees were also outstanding. I had the filet, my wife had the schnitzel and my daughter had the pork chop. All were terrific, but the pork chop was the big hit. Curried cauliflower was a really surprisingly wonder side. We skipped desert in favor of birthday cake at home, but next time we’ll definitely partake of that as well.
We were seated quickly loved the ambiance. Our waiter seemed to take longer and longer with each visit to service us. The food was slightly under-seasoned and it seemed to be a bit loud for a Monday night. We spent just under two hours there and only ordered an entree, no appetizers or desserts. With this being our second mediocre visit, we probably Won’t be back again
sucked - you can't take a reservation and not have your premiere dish available to your patrons. Celebrating an anniversary, it was very didappointing the duck was not available. Didn't think I would have to ask when making a reservation
The only bad thing is the dining room has a West face and as the sun was setting, the glare was horrible. There are shades on bottom half of windows but they are need up high as well. Otherwise everything was great !
One of the best places in town for wine and hospitality. Josh and the team made us feel right at home - highly recommend!
Beautiful ambience and wonderful service. It was a special occasion and the staff all signed a card for each of my children. Food was so tasty. It was Saturday night and busy but we never felt rushed. Great experience.
We went to Maverick to celebrate our son's university graduation. I mentioned this when I made the reservations on Open Table. When we arrived for brunch, there was a card on the table (signed by the staff) congratulating him on his graduation! Touches like that elevated the experience to another level! Our server, Doug, was professional and friendly, and the food was top-notch. We will definitely be returning to Maverick!
Great restaurant, i loved the ambiance and the menu was interesting. Not your usual fare. Everything we tried was great! I would definitely go again.
I love, love, love this restaurant. Like I have to force myself to go to other restaurants. (Eye roll). This is going to sound weird, but there are things on the menu that don’t sound all that yummy, but when you order them, they are AMAZING. Step out of your comfort zone. Order the weird thing and love it!
We were a little disappointed, been for dinner and service was great. At brunch waited to long for waitress to arrive and it took forever for the food to arrive. And we’re talking about brunch not anything fancy mostly eggs and waffles. We will go back again but probably just dinner.
We sat on the patio and really enjoyed the outdoor space. Food and service was excellent!
Terrific ambiance. Server was knowledgeable and attentive. Food choices were perfect for a Keto lifestyle.
A lot of the food was good we ordered a big dinner, there were a few items that wasn't interested in but nevertheless things came out really well, our waiter was very friendly, and I am very grateful he put up with my mom's indecisive decision on the menu
Food overpriced. Over salted. Pork chop no flavor, nothing. Boo. Overall I should have stayed home and cooked. Lol
This is one of our favorite restaurants when we visit San Antonio. The food and service is excellent. The sommelier Josh is very knowledgeable with the wine list. He has never steered us wrong. Ask for him on your next visit, he will definitely recommend an excellent bottle to go with the great food you will be having.
The pork schnitzel was to die for. My wife and I had wanted to try it for a while and it did not disappoint! We had the green beans and peppers which were also very good. Highly recommend Maverick.
Was there with 3 coworkers for dinner. The cocktails we had were wonderful, as was all the food. I had the duck but I tried my coworker fish and quail as well. We also had a bunch of sides including brussel sprouts. Everything was good and the total tab was less than 300
Nice service, great food, beautiful restaurant!
I’ve gone here several times over the last 6 months and this place never disappoints. One of the best places for fresh fish in the city. Entire staff is spot on and fantastic! Our waiter, Mr. Long Arm pour, was truly great. Excellent recommendations, attentiveness and overall fantastic waiter. I cannot recommend this place enough. The only negative was the background music was a little too loud (I think we were seated near a speaker).
This was our first brunch experience after enjoying many wonderful dinners at Maverick, which has fast become our favorite dining spot in SA. The menu ha a great opens for every taste. We had steak frites and pork belly & grits. Both were fantastic! The service, as always, was attentive. We'll definitely return for brunch in the future!
We sat outside which was great in terms of ambience and ability to have a conversation (vs. noise level inside), but the service was horrible. I don’t think it was the waitress who was very friendly and attentive, but rather the kitchen and bar. Initial drink order took quite awhile to show up. Food coming at different times vs. all together, lukewarm soup (sent back via Manager) and then when appetizers came soup didn’t come after asking for it twice. Manager never followed up or apologized. Disappointing visit as I had guests from out of town. The food didn’t disappoint, however.
Fantastic dining experience.
Superb! Requested some vip treatment via Open Table and all wishes were granted! :-) We loved our server Darienne, the sommelier (knowledgeable), our demi-lune seafoam green banquette under a front window, and our food!Arugula salad was enough to split and had yummy pickled parts... Salmon cooked perfectly, crunchy skin and lovely sides, a NY strip cooked to order, with a fab green bean/shishito pepper/Kumasi tomato side. Delish! Darienne wrangled a dessert we requested from the daily special — above and beyond.
We will be back!
One of my three favorites in Texas!!
Strip was rare - ordered medium. It was hard to cut and eat. Had to request a steak knife since one wasn’t provided. Had to ask for a water refill on three different occasions. Brussels were heavy and lacked depth of flavor. Cheese puffs were good. Would not go back.
Great ambiance. Sommelier was lovely and very helpful. Food server was efficient but lacked people skills. Food yummy.
Absolutely amazing service and staff. Seldom am I wow’d but was wow’d here.
The food was phenomenal and the service was second to none. Great atmosphere as well. Will definitely be back. Next time I’m going to get the mixed grill.
Gorgeous restaurant with amazing food. Already looking forward to going back.
Great night out. Delicious duck. Very cool atmosphere. Great cocktails. Looking forward to going back and trying some other dishes.
We tried this for a birthday dinner, food was very tasty, promptly served by super professional waitstaff. Each one was friendly, polite and very helpful. The best service we have had in years in San Antonio. We had the schnitzel, calamari and octopus, pasta and a beef bourguigon that would have made Julia Childs proud. We were thankful for the valet parking as parking in King William is tough enough, but this was opening night for Fiesta meaning there was no parking anywhere within blocks. No problems because of a quick and polite valet. Plan to go back and try some of the other entrees. Special of the night includes a salad, entree, and dessert for $25.
We were on a family road trip and were looking for a nice foodie experience. The Maverick was perfect for it. We loved being on the patio.
La comida deliciosa, el mesero no muy al pendiente de la mesa. El lugar lindo!
Great food Excellent service
I have been here a few times and think that the ambiance is great, an upscale casual vibe with a well rounded menu and wonderful service. I think even the pickiest of eaters will find something they enjoy. You can enjoy a nice date night or a casual dinner with friends or family. The flavors of the food make each dish unique and elevate even a simple pasta to a new level. Servers are knowledgeable on ingredients and flavors and are helpful in guiding you if you need help deciding like I do. The crab cakes are bomb and I suggest ordering whatever the special is that day, as it has not once disappointed.
Brown.Butter.Brioche.Donut....order one (and a second, or third, or several "to go'!) Trust me on this! (you'll regret it if you don't!). Megan...WONDERFUL server...request her! (again...trust me on this!)....Megan was so incredibly friendly-yet-professional, knowledgeable, accomodating, attentive at appropriate times and let us enjoy our relazed, leisurely Easter brunch meal without ever feeling rushed (or that we were lingering too long with our post-meal chit chat)....such a delight to have her as our server! Food....happy stomachs and empty plates! The pork belly with grits and crab cake benedict received top scores from our friends, followed by my son's steak frites (I snagged a bite of the spinach on his plate...such well seasoned greens!). My ceviche was good but I found it to be borderline "too" acidic. My husband ordered the lamb special and liked the wood grilled flavor of the meat but he thought it was served with a bit too much sauce and several of his accompanying root vegetables were undercooked. Back to that donut, though....sooooo tender, soooo buttery-every-so-slightly-salty and just-enough-sweet...served hot-to-order with a good cup of joe, better than anything the Easter bunny could ever leave in my basket! (and reason enough to return to Maverick SOON for another delightful meal...and don't forget to ask for Megan!)
