Maverick - Texas Brasserie
Met up with friends at this restaurant for the first day of Restaurant Week. None of us had been here before. The food was amazing delicious. I will definitely be coming back. The only negative was everyone was served their salad or soup at the same time except for mine. Other than that, this place was great and the wait staff is very helpful and offered really good suggestions.
My husband and I discovered Maverick about a year ago on a visit to San Antonio. And it was the first place that came to mind when we were discussing where to eat dinner on our return to SA a few days ago. It did not disappoint.
Everything we ate was wonderful and the service was amazing.
Great mixed grill but had the Brussels sprout side and these were bad. The first batch so overdone as to look and taste like small charcoal nuggets. Second go-around the insides were ok but they were still coated with a greasy tasting dark layer of something that needed to be scraped off. I've had them here before and they were good. What happened?

So we went on a Sunday night and were sat in the very back of the restaurant, perhaps because we had our worldly 12-year old in tow who probably behaves better and eats better than 70% of the restaurant patrons. Our obviously new server was late throughout the night. The restaurant was freezing, in part because they sat us right next to the back door and people kept exiting throughout the night into 40°F weather. I had to wear my leather jacket all night and I had a long sleeve shirt on. This should never happen when you’re spending $200 on dinner for 3, especially when there were at least half a dozen tables away from the door where we could have been relocated. Dinner proceeded slowly, with the server disappearing for extended periods. My overpriced Barolo showed up which I chose because I couldn’t wait any longer for the server to send over the on-staff somm. When dinner arrived it was good for the most part but the smoked pork on my son’s mixed grill plate was shoe leather in another life and was cold. Probably a reheat. When we finished it took awhile for the server to discuss desserts, which I don’t like to get but my 12-year old, well...he ordered the Profiteroles and the wait began. It took 25-minutes for the things to show up. The server was largely non-existent and when I finally caught her and complained she said they had to find the bananas that were a side piece on the dessert...find the bananas...LOL. Meanwhile, I could hear the kitchen discussing the ongoing Pats/Chiefs game and couldn’t help but think Tom Brady was the cause of our ludicrous delay. Damn Tom Brady. When the bill came the dessert wasn’t comped. I expected that and my simmering frustration boiled over as I laid into my server. She finally talked to the manager, Damian, who came over and apologized, took $30 off the bill and tried to soothe my nerves. At that point he was, no fault of his own, largely unsuccessful. I very much doubt I would return. Don’t expect year 2
The ambiance was great at Maverick’s. The food was also quite tasty, but the portion sizes are small for the sides and fish. I ordered a 6 oz that looked more like a 3 oz. Yikes!!

I was so disappointed in our visit to Maverick. The menu itself looks stunning, but the kitchen simply couldn't pull it off. And when you're paying $100/pp for a meal, you expect it to be good-to-great, not mediocre-to-bad.
We started with the foie gras torchon, which was completely unseasoned and desperately needed some salt to really bring out that unctuous, meat butter like quality. But they don't even put salt on the table, so we weren't able to fix the kitchen's mistake. Additionally, as it was served cold with untoasted soft bread, and drowning in a syrup of some sort, you were unable to even spread it well, as it tore the bread immediately, and the syrup overwhelmed instead of complemented it. At $24 for an appetizer, this is simply unacceptable.
For our mains, I had the crispy duck. The skin was indeed crispy, but the breast itself was overcooked, and again, underseasoned. My husband got the mixed grill and while he found the quail to be quite good, they had managed to cook the pork belly to the point it was dry and hard - not like pork belly at all. We also got the potato pave and brussel sprout sides, and they were disappointing as well. The brussels had been deep-fat fried and were so unbelieveably greasy so as to be inedible. The potato pave, however, was tasty but once again underseasoned! Each layer of the pave should have received seasoning, instead of just the deep fried brick at the very end.
All in all, this was one of the worst "upcsale" meals we've had. The service was fine, though they did nothing when we complained about the issues with the food other than say "sorry you didn't like it." We won't be back.
We had to wait 30 minutes past our reservation time. We were told it was because “there were campers” at tables. Service had flaws including not realizing that I would need a plate for the shared vegetables. Sparkling water had no or little fizz. Overall the food was good but they need to improve the service efficiency
Donut is killler. Best donut ever.
Duck confit Breakfast hash was like soup and lacking season. Surprised this was such a failure.
Service was a challenge. Untrained. Brought other tables drinks. Forgot side orders. No check back on meal. No dessert offer. There were 4 tables seated for lunch...

Parents were visiting from out of state.. we enjoyed a beautiful meal, drinks, wine... absolutely great service. Love the family style option so everyone can taste lots of different menu items.
Our new favorite restaurant! Every aspect of the dinner was phenomenal. Love the gingerbread ice cream!
This was our second experience at Maverick. The Som is great and the wine list spectacular. The food was lacking in flavor and presentation. Service was a B-. Valet was a D-. Unless they change a few things their Location, Bar and ambiance is the only reason to even go.
The staff seemed professional at first but we were the last to leave it became more unprofessional being there the waitress was nice but her friend shouldn’t have approached us in the manner she did overall I will not be going back there nor will I be recommending this establishment
We had party of six and made an early reservation after this past Sunday matinee performance at the Majestic. Four of the people were from out of town and none of us had been to Maverick but went upon my suggestion. Overall we were very pleased with experience. Portions tend to be small on some dishes but we enjoyed all of them and would return upon another date. Our only disappointment was the Angus Strip Steak my wife ordered as it was quite tough and she had a hard time cutting it. Everything else was very good. Mushroom appetizer is a definite repeater as well as the escargot pot pie.
Zach our waiter was great! Knowledgeable about the menu and our dietary needs. Beautiful restaurant. Great brunch.

Took friends and had a wonderful experience. Only reason for food downgrade to 4 star was a steak came out over cooked- staff noticed right away and the recovery was absolutely first class- customer came first, made us feel wonderful and replacement steak was 5 star! Always enjoy this superbly run establishment.
Absolutely wonder service throughout the whole dinner. Only complaint would be about parking. Is there anywhere to park without having to valet?

The food was extremely bland. We ordered the mahi mahi and the beef tenderloin along with several sides. Definitely not worth the price. We are used to spending several hundred dollars on a good dinner, but this $130 meal was absolutely not worth it. Waitress was great though and the restaurant itself was wonderful. Would be great to meet someone for after-work drinks, but head somewhere else if you want a fancy dinner.
Excellent food and atmosphere. We especially loved the crispy duck and the Gulf Coast fish. We’ll be back!
This was my first time dining at Maverick for brunch. It was delicious. I had the special, lobster omelette, and my friend had the pork belly, coddled eggs and grits. We shared one of their famous brown butter brioche donuts. The restaurant is less full during brunch right now since brunch is rather new there, thus it was quiet. I can't wait to return and try more brunch items, and dine on their quaint patio when the weather is warmer.
Have never been disappointed in multiple visits. Service has always been tremendous- wonderful “team” feeling. Food was once again very special.... this has become a go to place for business or pleasure
We go frequently and it’s always great food and a fun experience! Super drinks, friendly and efficient servers—and I hope they bring back the cassoulet!
We celebrated our wedding anniversary on the New year's Eve. The menu was prix fixe and was outstanding, especially the gnocchi and the lobster/scallop éclair. We love the 'regular' menu but this special one was extraordinary.

Beautiful restaurant for a beautiful NYE dinner! Their wines were amazing and unique. The beef carpaccio was delicious. Lobster eclair was so creative and delicious. My only complaint was the duck... it was just so underwhelming. The duck “filets” were tough and basic, the duck confit leg was delicious but mine had so little meat on it. I only got two or three bites of food duck meat. And they put it all over a bed of lentils, which- with the right pairing - can be great, but in this case, just no. It would have been better accompanied by Rosemaey or Dijon seasoned vegetables/ potatoes .. considering that it was only $25 cheaper per person than a Michelin Star restaraunt.. I was expecting to be absolutely floored with everything. But I will say the staff was very nice and very accommodating. I would go back for the great service and romantic ambiance (and maybe when their regular menu was available).
The food was brilliant. It was a special menu, but the basic like bread had not been account for hungry patrons. They took care of us. Going to go again to see if regular days are better.
