The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges Ratings and Reviews
To be honest- the food was delicious despite the fact that it was cold. But a cold burger? Come on! We arrived for lunch at 1pm and didn’t see our main course until 2:30. We were so hungry that we didn’t dare send it back. But I did ask our waitress if they intended the tuna burger to be served at room temperature? She said no- and I said I assume the Signature Mark burger also wasn’t supposed to be cold. And she said no. She said she would let the chef know. Did we she send us a complimentary dessert or discount our meal? Did she ever come over and make let us know that our food was coming or apologize for the long delay?NO! It was a birthday lunch for my sister and her husband was so stressed that he had left work for 3 hrs! Not the best birthday surprise. Sadly can’t reccommend as I have eaten there before and the food was delicious, but after no apologies for 3 hr meal and cold food I will not be going back!
The restaurant is located within the Mark hotel and seems to be also very popular with local guests next to hotel guests.
The decor is elegant and service very attentive and friendly and the staff listens to their guests. The food is very good with a more classic-modern, European-inspired menu. Overall, the restaurant has a European ambiance.
Everything was great except for our brunch omelets. Those were some of the worst omelets I have seen. They look and taste like slow cooked yellow blobs. What a shame because everything else is so lovely. I don't understand how they serve an omelet that way.
We thought worth a try; we love the NYC food scene and have traveled widely and tried most things; this is supposed to be a pinnacle. Service was a bit disjointed, which tempered the evening. Salad came way before our oysters; no big deal. It was taken away, wonderful oysters appeared. Salads back about a half hour later, but they were definitely the same ones, only the worse for the wear. Wilty, soggy lettuce. To pay this much for a simple error like that seems a little odd. Remainder of food was good; not spectacular, but very good. We felt like the dishes were embellished too much. Too much of the sides, too much attention to making a plate look full. My lamb chops were stewing in well-prepared onions and broccoli rabe. It was a birthday dinner; they did nicely with that. Wine selection is quite good, cocktails are excellent. Maybe worth another try.
As someone who loves JG restaurants, I can say that this is my favorite at the moment. The service is terrific, warm, not intrusive, just on top of their game. The food is great, but thats to be expected. What stands out to me is how well they manage to give everyone space to enjoy their time in the restaurant, feel like you are out for a meal, but not on top of each other. You can really just relax and soak it all in. I like it for lunch but also like sitting by the bar for dinner.
It was brunch time which I was forgot about it. So many people and staffs seems a little confusing or didn’t even realize there was some mistakes happened. They missed my salad and my partner’s tea and served my partner wrong hamburger. It’s high priced $$$$ place so I expected higher experience. After all, maybe they had a bad time so I won’t judge that they are always like that.
I am never disappointed when i eat at The Mark. I use it for special occasions or special business lunches. The food is consistently good and the setting, especially the glass roof room, always makes you feel special.
Dinners are equally as good, but i use it more for lunch.
