The Mark Restaurant by Jean-Georges

Really limited brunch menu that felt more like poolside hotel menu than gourmet restaurant (pizza, burgers, salads). Not at all how the menu is billed on the restaurant description.
Service was unapologetically bad. Timing off so that half of party finished entrees before the others even came. Waiters were so clueless that they couldn’t even understand there was an issue. Impossible to get attention of waiters. Asked for things (lemon) three times and still didn’t get them.
When paying $37 for a burger, I at least expect top notch service. This was poor even for an everyday restaurant, let alone one that considers itself world class. T
If you have a special occasion that needs the very best food, location, service, and comfort The Mark is the place to pick! I have long love Jean George Restaurants but I think The Mark is one of the best.
Food is okay. But since we brought a birthday cake, they charged us for cutting the cake $8/ person (8 people: $64). Thy did not notify us of the service fee from the beginning to the end, only shown on the bill . And the manager’s attitude when responding to questioning was horrific, looks like “you people are nobody” and doesn’t care about us at all. We felt very uncomfortable!!!
Food was nondescript, forgot one of the drinks ordered.
We have been to The Mark numerous times, however, last time the food and service were off. It was disappointing, but I know that this place is usually very good, so I am hopeful that this was a one time bad experience.
When we arrive, our table was not ready for the time of our lunch reservation. we were told to wait by the bar. No one came and got us so afte 10 mins i went back to the hostess asking for our table. Finally we were seated. The appetizers were very yummy. However Our main course came at least an hour after our appetizer and not apologies from the staff. The food took so long we had to skip dessert because we ran late for afternoon meetings.
This is a restaurant that never disappoints. I've been going for years. It hits all the high spots--fabulous cuisine, a menu of intelligence and variety, superb service, great people watching, and best of all, quieting acoustics that even when the room is full and buzzing, make a conversation no problem whatsoever. Two wishes: Could they offer wines by the glass that are higher quality? Could the wine list include more wines in the $100-$200 range?
$170 pp price fix Mother’s Day dinner that didn’t come close to meeting expectations. They first tried to seat us in the bar, then a dark table in the corner of what is usually a PDR, then finally an acceptable table. However is was next to the entrance to the lobby and when those doors were opened, it created a cold wind tunnel, which we endured throughout the dinner.
One entree (chicken) was cold and inedible and had to be sent back l, so they substituted a pasta. The desserts never came and when we inquired, the waiter said “it’s no ones fault... but the downstairs kitchen messed up the orders” (doesn’t that mean it is someone’s fault?).
Apps and other entrees were fine. Just not worth the $, so would not recommend.
This was a Mother's Day Special Brunch, more of a dinner than a brunch. Although our waiter forgot the amuse bouche we had a delicious meal. I loved the lobster with risotto and my companion, the lamb We would have like a few more strawberries on the scrumptious shortcake..
Wonderful food and outstanding service. Come here often and love it every time.
We went for Mother's Day Brunch, but were not provided with the Mother's Day Brunch menu until they offered dessert. We had to ask for syrup for our pancakes, a spoon for the seasonal berries and for a new water glass because one was chipped. The waiter took our order, including for toast, but the toast never arrived. They never offered to refresh the coffee, which had gone cold.
The food was fine, but not great.
Overall, a disappointment.
Waiter rushed taking dinner orders and did not come back till after we finished our meal . Very disappointed with the service
Waiter was busy with a bigger group .
Restaurant has gone way down hill. So sad. Will never return.
Sat our group next to a table bussing station - servers were polite but in our way and rummaging for cutlery literally 2 feet from our faces. It was so crowded and felt like we were in the “cheap seats”. We’ve been to the Mark 5 times. I’m not hurrying back.
The food was nice, but not outstanding for the price. The service was ok, but a bit patchy. Water not topped up regularly and the waiter forgot my appetiser so I was left for at least 5 mins waiting for it. We were in a corner and it was hard to attract attention, maybe they need more wait staff. It wasn't a bad experience, but nothing special so I wouldn't recommend it over other places.
Excellent, best menu, good energy, noisy but comes with the territory!
Fabulous! What a great place for a special lunch out with a friend. Great for people watching.
I dined with 6 people. None have us ever had experienced The Mark before. It is a beautiful restaurant. Great menu. The food we had was very good although one dinner had to be sent back because it was cold. I was a little disappointed with the Dover sole. It was $70 plus and was only given half a fish. Very weird. I’ve ordered this in many a restaurant and the whole fish is served after de boning. I did mention to our waiter that one of the couples in our party was celebrating a 30th wedding anniversary. Upon ordering our desserts they brought out a cookie dish which I thought was very nice. We didn’t order it so I thought it was complementary. The next morning I looked at our bill and they charged us for it. Not a nice way to do business.
not for breakfast or brunch...at least not on the weekend.
the food was ok...although my meal was dried and tired.
vastly overpriced..the servers tried but they
had so many tables...an impossible task to complete with
grace. far different than nougatine or even abc kitchen.
we don’t return.
The service was terrible. The atmosphere/ambiance is lovely. I ordered an egg white omelette with herbs and potatoes. There were just a few chives on top of the omelette and four pieces of potato. We orders a pastry basket - we had to ask 4 times for the pastry basket. I would recommend The Mark for the ambiance - not the service or food.
Disappointing. Went once before and enjoyed it. Came back. Poor service. Sat at table for 10 minutes plus without anyone coming to table, tried to make eye contact nothing, asked two or three different staff for waiter. Once it got started it was good service. Food is absolutely mediocre. Poached eggs over cooked. Average green salad. The tuna tartare is delicious. Not worth the price. This is just an ok hotel dining room. JG should be ashamed.
Service was amazing, very comfortable, waiters were not annoying which is a big plus. Don’t like when waiters swing by every 10 minutes. Overall I expected nothing less than a polish ambience
We had a lovely double birthday celebration enhanced by the sophisticated-elegance of The Mark and of course the Jean-George cuisine was delicious — pure perfection.
Always love it
Our two favorite choices were taken off the menu--the grilled chicken sandwich on ciabatta and the lobster roll. The dishes we ordered were dry and over-cooked. Very poor value. We would not return.
The food was awful & had to be sent back repeatedly.
The servers lovely.
Easter brunch. The service was slow. The food was barely editable and expensive for what you get.
A wonderful restaurant for a special occasion!! our party has an amazing time
The food was not anything special. I expected something really great, I didn’t find it.
Lovely restaurant. Food good. Service not so great. Maybe it was just a bad day.
The experience could have been a lot better if it weren't for our server. Unfortunately he must have been having a bad day based on his demeanor. He never came to see if we needed anything or to ask how our food was etc., we had to keep flagging down other servers for condiments, drink refills, etc.. somewhat disappointed.
Disappointing. Ordered a black bass, simply made. The portion was very small, and the plate was filled with shishito peppers, which I can’t eat, and which were not in the menu and nobody told me about. In fact I ordered spinach as a side. They could easily swap the shishito peppers with it, but they didn’t.
Paid far too much for what we got. We used to come here often, but this is likely to be our last time
Had lobster burger and chicken coconut soup, 2 good cocktails..and mango sorbet .... all good
Briana was superb. Very very personable. She and the rest of the staff were on top of everything yet not invasive.
Great gluten free
I cannot even remember as food was anonymous and room blank
We didn't like the first bottle of chardonnay we ordered, which was $85. The sommelier said he recommended another one "around the same price point". We had it, but it turned out to cost $120. That is no where near the same price point.
Extended nyc stay and eating here every other day b-l-& dinner. Outstanding and extremely accommodating. Love the very comfortable menu
