The food was sublime and the service superlative. We are celebrating our 37th wedding anniversary, and they surprised us with a candle on a plate of fresh out of the oven baked cookies. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY was inscribed in chocolate on the plate. The chocolate chip cookie was warm to the touch. I had a Nicoise Salad with a slice of salmon that tasted like I had cooked it at home. My husband had the steamed shrimp salad with avocado and a champagne vinaigrette. We LOVED the meal and the ambiance.
Sorry but the salmon over whipped potatoes came to us cold. My usually good black bass with braised fennel came overly salted and way too much lemon. Had to wait too long for the salmon to return warmed. At $50 an entree, it was a disgrace. The wine list is too over the top. Had to look far and wide for a red under $100. Got one for $95 that we didn't like nor did we finish. There are many alternative places to dine. No need to get ripped here anymore.
The service could not have been lovelier, from the initial greeting to the waiters, sommelier and bus boys.
Terrible experience!!! The avocado toast barely had avocado. We asked for eggs Benedict with the hollandaise sauce on the side, and they brought it with the sauce on. We asked for the muffin to be well toasted (given that in the past, the muffin was not toasted at all), and it came all soggy. We asked for a juice in the beginning, which never came. The service was terrible and so slow!
It’s an amazing place! Food and service are top notch!
We’ve been to different Jean George restaurants but this one was the least favorite. The food and the service were moderate.
What happened to the food last night? We have spent the last five years at the Jean George Restaurant at the Mark for Thanksgiving. We look forward to what normally has been a delicious meal. Last night, EVERYTHING was off. All pre-cooked maybe? My turkey was so dry I sent it back only to get a TOUGH piece of beef to replace it. My husband laughed as he saw me trying to saw through it. We normally delight in the crispy sushi served as an appetizer. What was that they served last night? Nothing like we're used to. We were told the restaurant was fully booked. Too much for the kitchen I'm afraid. In all fairness, we had the usual great service from the staff. Too bad the food was a disappointment.
The very expensive Thanksgiving brunch ($500 for 2 people including tip) was a disappointment, given the high quality of Jean-Georges food that I have had at several of his other New York restaurants. The shortcomings were both large and small. One of our pre-brunch cocktails was garnished with a sprig of thyme that was about 5 days past its prime and was turning brown. There was a tasteless (I.e. devoid of flavor) tuna tartare amuse bouche, followed by a totally bland and barely warm peekytoe crab cake that tasted as if it had come from an extended deep freeze. The entrees were acceptable, though marginally overcooked. The desserts were quite good, as was the coffee. If we had come for dessert and coffee, it would have been a two-thumbs-up experience. For a full brunch, it was a poor value. The waitstaff was unflaggingly gracious.
Thanksgiving dinner. The menu selections were terrific. The food was excellent.
The Mark is my go to restaurant for lunch or dinner and it did not disappoint for the holiday meal. There is always something on the menu to delight any palate.
Amazing every time
Our food was very late, more than an hour after we arrived.
My wife’s salad was tasteless, damp not crisp, no bread crumbs and barely any dressing
My hamachi was cut too thick which was unfortunate.
Our lobster risotto was barely lukewarm.
Very disappointing for what we pay for the meal
They got 3 out of 4 orders wrong. Then took another 45 minutes to replace them and still got them wrong. Absolutely terrible. Brunch took over 2 hours without having correct meals.
We went for Brunch, restaurant did not meet expectations
It is appalling that for a table for six we were at the end and that too a corner. Beyond that it was a small oval table with a couch on one side where three women have to squeeze in and the gents took rickety chairs offered . In fact middle chair had no arm rest/ handle
Expect better from Jean Georges
The food and service are always fantastic!!
I am a fan of Jean-Georges for many years which is why this experience was so disappointing. On the whole the food was disappointing - and the wait staff needs better training - they were undecided on changing the flatware; which left our food waiting on a tray table until they got organized. It is a very expensive restaurant - even by NYC standards and to have a combination of poor service and food that is sub-par is truly disappointing.
Tuna nicoise was so-so. Very dry tuna. Food is usually amazing. Wont stop me from going.
Please improve the service. The people at front desk are never excellent.
Service is always awful but we love the food.
I have been here a number of times-overall usually a very fun experience-although way overpriced and noisy-the entrance through the bar is confusing and cluttered( I assume due to hotel configuration)-the service is decent but overall experience was not what I remembered-one of my guests ordered a champagne cocktail-which at $28 was warm and flat and was sent back.so, doubt I will return again
Wonderful experience aside from the fact the waiter was a bit complacent ...did not offer us a beverage and did not come around st the appropriate times.
I asked for a wine list after we ordered because it was never offered.
Food and ambience were great!
Always love coming here. The smoked salmon plate is beautiful and a crowd pleasure. Skip the tuna burger though, it was unpleasant in texture and taste.
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time at The Mark and we enjoyed the great service, atmosphere and last but not least, the great food. However, we both had the tuna tartare as entrée and we both got sick once we came back home.
Wonderful attentive service.
French fries were cold
We asked for two glasses of Cava....told you did not have it and sommelier made a suggestion ..... turned out to be $65 a glass.....
I did not ask, .... but that is an unrealistic high cost item for S to suggest.
Very good. A little pricy
Service by Derek was terrific
The most terrible service I have ever experienced at a dining establishment.
I'm not one to ever complain about spending $700 for dinner for 4, but my expectations were that at least the food would be well-prepared. My wife had a $72 wild dover sole that was completely nuked and like shoe leather, and I can make the famous Jean-Georges Kale Salad better myself at home following the recipe. The other 2 in my party were polite and said it was "fine". Need to do better, ever for a hotel restaurant, to maintain the reputation.
The hostess did not recognize our open table reservation. He seated us at a dirty table in the corner next to a baby. When I asked to move he told me that he couldn’t. There was a cracker on my seat and they never cleared the table beside us. We ordered coffee and they didn’t bring sugar. They never brought salt and pepper. I ordered a Bellini, it never came. The food was good but it was expensive and you expect better service and ambience from a place like this.
The service and food was not up to their normal standards!
Service was slow. Attitude of server and staff was indifferent. They acted like they were doing us a favor to wait on us
Great service, and ambiance. Some of our food was not up to par. But, we will come back.
Excellent as always..a great place for a breakfast meeting.
One our favorite restaurants in NYC. We will go for most important occasions. The chicken is remarkable.
Sadly never consistent
The food was not as good as usual and neither was the service. Though the sommelier was great. Nougatine is much better.
We are native New Yorkers and have been coming to the Mark ever since it opened. It is still as vibrant delicious and enjoyable as always.
Love coming here and bringing friends to join us.
