The Majestic
The newly renovated 85-seat dining room features a comfortable and sophisticated setting of intimate booths, individual tables facing a high back banquette, and inviting contemporary club chairs in the single dining room. Extensive updates were made to the finishes, fixtures, and furnishings, and the newly hand-waxed walls are covered in salon-style collections of art, objects, and interesting images for a dynamic setting.
Food was phenomenal, as always. Server appeared to be distracted and went to talk to another table for extended stretches (she was pleasant, though). The manager on shift also didn't seem to be bothered to check on our table's gluten intolerance (Celiac's) as other managers have in the past.
Besides that all the other staff was nice, the food was stellar, just felt a touch overlooked by staff this particular Saturday night.
The main dishes were cold (the duck, the burger)--and the sides were as well (roasted brocollini). The kale Caesar salad was much too wet. The wine was "old"--it had been open for a while and had a vinegary taste. And even though I said up front that I was allergic to an ingredient in a spread (horseradish), they put it on my food anyway. By the time the kitchen re-made it, my dinner companion was done eating. I'd been looking forward to coming to the Majestic for years, based on its reputation. I was sorely disappointed. (I will say, though, that they took my main dish off the bill, which I appreciated.)
A great tasting menu never changes the ambiance. The experience was nice but not the most romantic setting. Its friendly and inviting with an eager service staff to ensure your time is nice. I would recommend this for any occasion but tight spacing leaves no room for intimate conversations.
I love this place and will go back but it was just way too loud on Sunday. Too many large tables, maybe?
The service was timely, prompt and courteous, our waitress in particular was delightful. The cocktails are great, the menu for a Sunday Brunch was limited but varied enough. The food quality was good and the prices are not inexpensive but very reasonable for the location. This was my fourth visit to The Majestic and it won’t be the last.
The Majestic was accommodating when I called to add to my 5-person reservation, seated the party who all arrived on time and before me (parking in Old Town on a nice Saturday!) and after serving us and checking occasionally, left us to enjoy each other. Great food, nice mid-winter brunch offerings and comfortable. Always a good choice!
Great food, great service! Our waiter took fantastic care of us and made it a great experience for our whole table. An Old Town classic, highly recommend!!
Coconut cake, as ever, was tremendous. Menu less imaginative than in past, illustrating the DC area continues to be comprised of less knowledgable diners who will pay substantial sums for less than substantial quality kitchen fare. Overall though the ambiance remains wonderful.
Great food, our server was very attentive and pleasant. Everyone enjoyed the evening
Even though the dining room was only half full, it was really loud and difficult to hear. Weirdly enough, they seemed to seat people next to each other even though some parts of the dining room was empty. But, the server was responsive and very helpful without being in your face.
The food and the drinks were to die for though. Do wish there were more mashed potatoes on my plate, seemed lighter than usual. The Majestic is usually very generous with food. Regardless, the meal reminded me why the Majestic is only of my favorite Alexandria restaurants.
The boys were both at Super Bowl parties so we could have a date! We enjoyed the Sunday night supper
Delicious. Every item was completely finished. The short rib was out of this world.
Rob took good care of us! He explained the brunch menu and gave us some good options to choose from. The food was great and the service perfect! We will definitely be back for brunch soon!
Outstanding service and wonderful menu. This was our first visit to the Majestic for Sunday brunch. We were not disappointed. To the contrary, the food, drink and service was superb from start to finish. They have a wonderful array of healthy and more decadent options for groups with mixed tastes. My wife and I opted for relatively healthy food and terrific libations, while our son enjoyed a more decadent entrée. Prime Rib omelette was innovative.
Great bar & restaurant with an intimate but energetic atmosphere! Great service as well! Wide variety of tasty meal options! Definitely will be returning!
Good food well prepared and efficiently served. And in a cool retro looking space! What’s not to love?
The drinks were amazing! It was a bit loud. The corn muffins were dry but the chicken was some of the best fried chicken I ever ate. There was just too much. Could have easily split the meal.
HIGHLY recommend!! Had a great time. Food was fantastic, service was incredible. Will 100% be back!
No matter how busy the service is always spot on! Definitely need reservations though as this little hidden gem is not quite so hidden any more.
Wonderful elderflower & passion fruit with sparkling wine cocktail. Enjoyed the egg white omelet with veggies & cheddar cheese. Didn't have room for the excellent monkey bread or the delicious bacon.
I have been frequenting this place since it opened. I grew up behind the original owners of the building and watched it transform from a closed up/dilapidated storage building in the early 70's into what it has become today.
Lets be clear here the menu is awesome, and service always good, however..., there is the noise factor. When the restaurant first opened way back 2001, there was a noise problem and the owners eventually fixed it with adding some fabrics and having a ceiling made that had overlapping panels that kept noise from bouncing about. It worked and you could have a conversation without much problem. I hadn't been there for a couple of years and went back for dinner. I was surprised to see that they reconstructed the ceiling and added punched tin(I think) and basically destroyed the noise cancelling properties the other ceiling provided. All that to say, "ITS NOISY". I had to raise my voice just to be heard by the two guests on either side of me. Almost screaming to talk to the person 3 seats away. Now there wasn't any music, and no one was screaming or talking extremely loud, its just the case of the din just overwhelming your conversation.
Great food, good service but be prepared for the noise.
Majestic had an impressive menu and some delicious food. They were a little busy at brunch which I assume lead to some small (and quickly remedied) service errors. Overall, it was a great experience and I would go back.
Service was excellent and food delicious. It was a great place to get together with my girlfriends and one even brought her 3 year old. Great experience overall!
Over the years, I have visited the Majestic perhaps once or twice yearly since it opened. . Previously I found the service, food, and wine qualitatively good, or well-above average.
Friday's visit was the first in several months. I had invited a long time friend to leave McLean and meet me in Old Town., thinking I could not wrong.
Well I was wrong. From the start, The server seemed preoccupied, not giving me much time to get out of my coat, then find a seat, then to another (courtesy of the maitre d'), since the first was directly under a cold draft. Or then to look at the wine list, with server twice and twice requesting a selection, before I could get settled. Then, 11 minutes went by before he returned.
I ordered the soup and salmon salad; my friend an appetizer and sandwich I believe. The soup was simply unappetizing, and un-warmed, then the salad arrived shortly after few spoonsful, as did my friends entre. Josh, arrived to grab my guest's unfinished cider, having to be told to return it. We pushed aside the unfinished, though unsatisfying foods to the side, to make room for a wilty salad, and an over cooked 2 oz of salmon. We had been rushed to consume unappetizing fare . I apologized to my guest saying, "the Majestic has lost much of its majesty." For the soup, the salad and two glasses of wine, I was charged $41.00. A similar amount for my friend, whose experience was bearable-he was hungry.
Rarely do I complete one of these surveys re recent restaurant experience. But rare too is there such a poor excuse for service, or quality of fare.
Awesome food and excellent cocktails.
Went back twice in one week!
Amazing food! However:
The tiniest of details were overlooked:
- no garnish or “wow” on or in the cocktails (I would have loved to see a fresh berry, and orange slice a something...)
- our starter plates were not cleared before our main entrees arrived (I awkwardly held my starter plate in hand as there just wasn’t enough room).
- bill was handled differently (aka we asked for one thing and received another, it may be that it was too difficult to hear)
the resturante week menu was not a good reflectio. of their true menu. although the food was good i wish there was more options
Made reservations here after reading review, the restaurant week menu had promise. It was good. I would say overall good not great. Service was so awesome. Personable, fun staff with great table service that made it worthwhile.
We had a great time, and the food was delicious!
For celebrating our 15 yr. anniversary, it was a wonderful experience! No complaints!!
Everything was wonderful except for the noise level - too loud.
Sunday brunch- omelet was under cooked and bacon was raw.
I really enjoyed their restaurant week menu, it’s a great deal! The food was delicious! The ambiance was nice and the noice level wasn’t too high so we were able to have conversations at a normal volume.
I have been to The Majestic 3 or 4 times in the last few years. The food is consistently top end - unique menu options, flavors. Also, had a great IPA draft - Devils Backbone 8 Point.
The food was delicious and the service attentive.
Came here for a date night, and the food, setting, and service was fantastic. We were able to sit in a booth and had a romantic date night.
I loved Majestic. The ambience was just right although later into the meal they turned up the wall sconce lights and it was a bit distracting since we had four people to my table and I was sitting right next to the light but they dimmed them as soon as I requested it. Food was outstanding and service perfect. It’s becoming my favorite place !! Never disappoints.
Excellent food but noise too high. Service helpful with suggestions. Wine ok but not memorable
Everything was great. Great food and even better wine. Service is the best old town.
Excellent food and great service. We had a group of 5. We were seated promptly and served timely. Great server. We go on a regular basis. Highly recommended.
