We didn't stay for a meal. The menu was very limited and every dish that we fancied was off the menu. This left us with very little to choose from. We would have settled for fish and chips only to find out there was no fish available. We drove for nearly an hour to meet friends only to be embarrassed and very disappointed at what was on offer. The staff didn't seem to be bothered so we walked out. We apologised to our friends and made our way home.

Really disappointed. Couldn't get thru by phone to book after numerous calls so booked thru open table. Although had email confirming pub didn't have any record. Good job only three of us eating. The open fires filled the pub with smoke which hurt our eyes and our clothes stank of smoke. Menu very limited and then certain foods off the menu that night. Didn't even have vanilla ice cream!! Girls were friendly and apologetic but didn't make up for evening. Sorry don't normally complain but think the Mainwaring need to know something slipping - have had lovely meals there before but the menu really needs looking at.

Lovely traditional pub, with snug, cosy and homely feel. Good menu with all classc favourites, well cooked and good produce. Staff are prompt, friendly and helpful. Dogs welcome too. Small so need to book.

They got our booking wrong (not enough places) and we were rather cramped on a small table. Food was nothing special and very bland. Chips undercooked and veg practically raw. Wouldn't recommend and one to avoid (unless you're there just for the beer).

Fabulous country pub, great atmosphere and outstanding service. The food is prepared fresh on the day and the ingredients locally sourced. The results are food of a consistently very high standard delivered to your table. What more could you want?

It’s been several years since I last visited the Mainwaring Arms. It used to be one of the “in places” to visit ..I don’t think it is anymore. It looks tired, shabby even. The blackboards for specials etc had not been updated. The gents toilets were dirty & smelly. I was ignored by the couple behind the bar for around 5 minutes while they focused on getting the till working. So much so that a local sitting at the bar said “ you must be invisible mate “ I had prebooked a table for 4 for 5.45pm , as we were on our way to a concert in Trentham. I was told our table number only to find another couple sitting there. The barman/ landlord said in that case sit at table 8. This is not a table , more a board with bench seating either side. It is impossible for 4 adults to sit opposite each other with their plates . We had to stagger ours in order to fit them on the table, sorry board. The Pork Loin was advertised with mash ..it came with underdone boiled potatoes. The sausage and mash came with very lumpy dry mash . The chips were so overdone they were almost black. I won’t be returning for some considerable time. Very disappointed as we have been to other Joules pubs and been impressed

Lovely venue, snug and cozy. I didn’t book the table until the day before but staff were still able to accommodate us. Great food yet again, real ale too which suits the hubby!
