Wonderful meal, the food and ingredients were fresh and delicious. Crowded but prompt and friendly service.
Did not have the flavors of Indian food. Ordered the navratan korma and it was big chucks of hard vegetables such as zucchini and squash which are not part of Indian curries! The saag paneer was okay but again lacked flavor. The naan on the bright side was really good. Prices were high too which would have been okay if the flavor was good. Really disappointed especially since it was so highly rated.
Excellent meal. By British (and Indian) standards the Vindaloo curry could have been spicier, but I expected that. Good service and ambience and although the restaurant was packed
out noise level was low, so conversation was easy.
Great place! Great food!
Excellent... good food... reasonable prices and a great view of Harvard Square and all the activity from a window table...
Fabulous brunch buffet and terrific service!
Staff was very nice and friendly. We all enjoyed the dishes we ordered and the view of Harvard Sq through the windows. We will be coming back here.
The pakora coating on my paneer pakora was bone dry and the paneer was rubbery. Almost nothing tasted savory. I was so unpleasantly surprised at the mediocre-poor quality of the food. The one good item was the raita. It was tasty.
good food. ur favorite dishes which they make exceptionally well are Lamb rogan josh, butter chicken (similar but much more tasty and flavorful than chicken tikka masala), navrattan korma, and plain parathas (which are more flavorful than naan and made of whole wheat)
Service was excellent. Food was delicious. Drinks were superb
Dependably delicious Indian food. Tandoor Chicken is succulent. Full, varied menu.
The waiter was amazing! Very helpful with picking out our dinners. The restaurant even let us burn hanukkah menorah candles! Food was excellent also, and it wasn't too expensive.
The Maharaja is an excellent restaurant with great service, food, and ambiance.
The food was ordinary, we hoped for better as we love Indian cuisine. The restaurant was generous in accepting us being 30min late which we appreciated. However one of the dishes had a special sauce on it, which involved shrimp, an item I do not consume for multiple reasons. The server did not offer to remove that dish from the bill, even if I had him take it back. I subsequently ordered something completely vegetarian.
The problem is that they do not specify what the "Special sauce" has as the main ingredient, it's Shrimp! If I knew, I would have never ordered it. Even removing the dish from the bill when you clearly see that I barely touched it, would have been acceptable. We are not returning.
Excellent food service and location. Second time there, will go back
The Bar is so under stocked and under educated. If I have tell you how to make a basic cocktail (Old Fashioned/Manhattan) this is a problem.
Food redeemed the Alcohol
It was great! Service was wonderful and the food was amazing
Maharaja offers a nice selection of well prepared Indian dishes. It doesn't offer anything distinctive of different than the normal Indian fare, but what it does offer is very high quality and quite flavorful. Service was quick and efficient so we got to our show in plenty of time.
A must go-to restaurant every time we are in Boston/Cambridge. We have been coming to Maharaja since we first found it in 1990. Great authentic Indian cuisine. Always an upscale, upbeat, incredible meal. When the Chicken Tikka Masala (while excellent) is the fourth or fifth favorite entree shared with the group, you know it's a wide and deeply authentic menu. The Tandoori Chicken is succulent and full of flavor. You'll never experience better Biryani anywhere in the United States. The Naan selections are so plentiful, you end your meal wishing your metabolism could sample all of them. Highly recommended!
Food was tasty, but not warm enough. Great location.
I often dine at Majaraja as it is near my home. The food is a wide variety of dishes from India. Always interesting and good. Waiters are very helpful. Half the seats are window seats with great views of a vibrant part of Harvard Square. It is ideal for dining out my friends and family.
Awesome food, but could be spicier. Enjoyed the upstairs street view off Harvard Square. Service seemed a bit too ready for us to finish up even though we were still eating.
The Paneer starter we ordered was tasteless - paneer was hard and not palatable. The Lamb we ordered wasn't as soft as you'd expect it to be. Other dishes were good. Galouti Kebab could've been softer.
Great place with lots of options for everyone. Attentive, courteous , friendly service. Great view through the windows down on Harvard Square.
Food was just ok. Not the best Indian food, everyone’s meal was rather mild in spice despite ordering medium to high spices. Rather bland.
Wasn't impressed by neither the quality or the flavor of the food. don't waste your time.
Consistently excellent food at reasonable prices. Not real fancy, but always pleasant, and we have always had no trouble carrying on a lively conversation. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are looking for excellent Indian food in pleasant (though not elegant) surroundings.
Great food and excellent friendly service. Will definitely go back.
We were here prior to a Mike Stern show at the Charles Hotel. Reservation was for 6:30 prior to the 7:30 show, and it worked perfectly. This restaurant sits above Staples, and it's tough to find as there are no clear outside signs ... you enter from JFK, and then must go upstairs to find it. Once there, you'll be glad you came! Our table was right by a window overlooking JFK, and it was really quite romantic. The service was fabulous, and the food was just excellent! Highly recommend this restaurant.
I specifically wrote in my reservation notes that I would like for there to be a surprise dessert with a candle for my friend's birthday. I don't know if this restaurant just doesn't offer dessert, but there was no acknowledgement of the request from the server or hostess and it never happened.
I've enjoyed meals at this restaurant in the past either business lunches or dinner with family or friends. The Sunday buffet was wonderful. So many delicious choices from appetizers to desserts.
Chaat station, soup, pakoras, samosas, kebabs, chicken tikka, so many vegetarian dishes to choose from...and more. Very reasonably priced too.
It's a beautiful restaurant surrounded by glass windows on the second floor. The views are wonderful of Winthrop Park and the Harvard Square buzz.
Our waitress was attentive and kept an eye on refilling our water glasses. We arrived around 12:30 pm and by 1:30 it was full. We'll definitely be back for this wonderful buffet.
The food here is amazing especially chicken korma is the best. Service is very good, we went there with a 1 year old baby, unfortunately she made a mess while eating yummy rice, they were just ok with it they kept telling us don't worry we will handle this. Highly recommend to the people with children 😆 there is not much place like this.
Food was superb!
The Galouti and Kakori kebabs were excellent
The food was delicious, and the views over Harvard Square were lovely! I especially recommend the Goan Fish Curry - that was everyone's favorite dish.
Delicious as always. We love the lamb rogan josh and butter chicken. The wheat paratha is delightful.
The menu offers excellent regional dishes and variety.
The restaurant is clean with a nice decor and has views of the harvard square area.
Good food with a nice variety. Courteous services and great views. Nice vegetarian dishes.
A must visit place for foodies and authentic food lovers..great ambiance..friendly staff..excellent service..reasonable price and a wide variety of food options..the best Indian food I have tasted in US yet.
Based on the reviews and a previous visit, we had high hopes for an amazing meal at Maharaja. This was one Indian restaurant where I adventured into seafood (based on lots of good experience at Bombay Club, which used to be in the same location) ... but the shrimp in our appetizer was overcooked and rubbery. The Saag Paneer and Onion Kulcha were good, but the stuffed chicken dish - a bit of an unusual one - wasn't so great. Overall I won't rush back, and if I do I'd stay with mainstream dishes and not go too far off track!
The food, service and atmosphere is extraordinary. All the dishes are seasoned delicately and are delicious. This is outstanding Indian cuisine.
With so many excellent choices for Asian cuisine in the Harvard Sq area, the tired, old gem of the Maharajah has lost its shine. While the views of the hustle and bustle of the Square through the second level, floor to ceiling plate glass windows are always fascinating, for the most part, the Resto has, slowly but surely, faded in quality. Other than the keema nan (ground lamb-stuffed flatbread), the food was mediocre at best. From the thick, lukewarm mango lassi, to the aloo gobie (spiced potato & califlower dish), to the strangely-flavored daal maharani, the meal was expensive and definitely not something to write home about! Service was nice enough -- they kept our water glasses full -- but not particularly inspiring.
