The food and service was very nice. It was my dads birthday and the staff sang him happy birthday which was very sweet of them to do.
Our favorite Indian restaurant bar none. Always delicious and the view on to Harvard Square is always amusing
My parents and fiancée were looking for a casual meal in Harvard Sq. and found the perfect spot at Maharaja on a Sunday evening. Our waiter was clearly new, but very attentive and got ample support from management to give us great service. We ordered the fish pakora, which was light and flaky on the inside and fried to perfection on the outside. For mains, we had shrimp chettinad, goat curry and my favorite chicken tikka masala. I am Indian and I don’t care that tikka masala was made for the Brits, it is delicious and with fresh naan there is nothing better. The sauces were all distinctive in flavor which is where many Indian restaurants go wrong, but we ordered medium spicy and perhaps could have gone hotter. I used to go to Maharaja (or the old Bombay club) a lot as a kid, but thought it had fallen off in quality. This was our first time back in many years and I am so excited that it is back to its old standard!
Every time we're in Boston, we go to Maharaja. The food is always wonderful, and the menu is so extensive that there's always something new to try. One of my all-time favorites!
Great waitstaff. Great food. Nice views. Group of five with various tastes; all left happy
Very good indian food
A consistently excellent meal in terms of the quality of the food, service, and ambiance.
Good for trying out Indian cuisines especially if you want to try some north Indian delicacies.
My waitress was AWFUL!!! She seemed very absent-minded and clueless about the drinks, food and any other questions I had. When I ordered a Pellagrino she brought over a bottle of wine and started trying to open it. (I had to explain to her that Pellegrino was sparkling water.) Next, she seemed very confused about items on the menu and could not make very many suggestions. I understand that it was Thanksgiving but she seemed flushed, exhausted and overwhelmed.
Lastly, I was very disappointed to see students and other adult patrons dressed so casually. I was told that this was a “nice”, “fancy” restaurant yet people were literally wearing jeans and sweatpants. Students and other guest were loud too and when I came out into the hallway to go the restroom, there was an opening in the ceiling (I guess where they are doing construction work) and there was a family spread out in the hall with people sitting on the floor. The ladies’ restroom ran out of paper towels and the trash can was overflowing.
Great service and food! The portion sizes were a little smaller than I expected for the price, but still decent-sized. I think the Harvard Square location makes this a pricier place, but the ambience is wonderful!
Excellent meal; I had Lamb Vindaloo which has sometimes in the past
been too mild. This time ot was very good.
Great table, very nice staff…not perfect service but decent. Very good food. Always excellent.
Service super friendly and quick. Food delicious. We had tandoori chicken, tandoori lamb chops, eggplant and okra. All were delicious. I also loved the papadam and dips. At my local Indian restaurant we have to pay for papadam and the serving is much smaller! So that was a nice surprise. Atmosphere a bit dowdy, could definitely use a makeover. But as far as food and service goes, highly recommend this restaurant for a tasty meal in Harvard Square.
Great food, lots of clearly marked gluten free options.
Food was ok.
Best Indian in Boston! Nothing comes close to Maharaja.
Great place for sharing good food with a group of friends.
Very pleasant restaurant, with good food and great view. A hidden treasure at the square.
I was very impressed with the large selection of vegetarian options. Everything we ordered was delicious! I also appreciated the care they took with service and pandemic protocols. If you are lucky, you can get a seat next to the window and get a view of the hustle and bustle of JFK street.
A wonderful place with wonderful food, conveniently located in Harvard Square. What more could you want?
Tasty, spicy food; friendly service; great views.
Best Indian in Cambridge.
My Vindaloo was good, but in Britain (where I learned to like curry)
would have been much hotter -- and I did ask for it to be spicy,
Service was a little spotty, they were very busy. I like the ambience
and value is great; Less than $60$ for two and 2 glasses of decent Cabernet.
First time here and we realty enjoyed it. We had been looking for a good Indian restaurant since Tantric closed years ago.
Food was good but it was not at the high level expectation.. we ask for medium hot but all curry were on sweeter side rather then spice level. even Baigan Bharta was not traditional.. and Maharaja makhani was too smoky flavor..
Once again, great experience. Enjoyed with our friends...
Some of the food was great, and some was mediocre. My main issue was the service, in that our waiter was incredibly rude throughout the meal--badgering us about not being able to finish certain items (despite basically having done so and obviously paying for it, like we ate as much as we could and enjoyed it, but were full, so get off our backs), saying we were wasting it, hassling us to order faster or leave sooner, and more. It was a really dissappointing experience, because we were so looking forward to going there. And we didn't feel comfortable complaining in the restaurant because a, that's rude and b, it seemed like our waiter was one of the head employees of the restaurant. So finally, let me just say that, it doesn't matter whether somebody's a manager or new waiter or the head chef himself--respect the people you interact with. Always.
-- my "spicy" lamb vindaloo was only medium hot -- but in USA that's typical
of Indian Restaurants. Maharaja is the best Indian in Cambridge
All around good but not spectacular. Service was a little slow. Our appetizer arrived with our entrees.
Great Indian food, good service, nice atmosphere. Always a good meal.
Very relaxing atmosphere, especially by windows with views of Harvard area. Staff are very kind and helpful. It's wonderful to be back again after the quarantine! WIil return soon, and will always recommend to friends and family.
Great atmosphere, wonderful views, be sure to get a seat by the window. Very efficient service. Pleasant staff. Great food with options for vegans and vegetarians as well.
The food was delicious. The lamb korma was just right and the bhel puri appetizer was refreshing.
the service was attentive and helpful.
It wasa good location just minutes away from Harvard Square.
The food and service were quite good. Really some of the best Indian food I have had in Boston.
The staff at Maharaja are wonderful, and the food is delicious!
The food was very good, but not amazing. The ambiance was really nice and the staff was extremely friendly and professional. Parking in Harvard Square is always an issue, and there is no valet parking. Overall, good enough for me to return,
Good authentic Indian food with a fine dining experience
Food was delicious. Service was great.
One of our most favorite restaurants! The staff, including the waiters and the food-preparers, are first-rate.
We were so pleased to come back to the Maharaja after about 18 months away! They've come up with some new vegetarian dishes in the meantime - new to us, anyway. Delicious.
We had an absolutely perfect evening.
Food, service, the view, all of it was just fantastic
